Pours dark as a porter should be. Although I didn't realize it was a porter until I poured and saw and smelled it. It has a burnt nose with a little citrus that comes through. Or maybe it's more because I expect there to be citrus. But it really doesn't have much of a citrus smell, or when it comes to taste it's pretty absent too. It's a very burnt porter which can go either way. The burnt malty taste pretty much takes up all the taste but does make an interesting porter. I guess I really can't commit to how much I like this or not so it must be somewhere in the middle. The price is the biggest downfall. For this price I expect a bit more.

Appearance: dark brown in color, 1/4 inch head, medium carbonation, clear

Smell: roasted coffee

Taste: coffee and roasted malt,

Mouthfeel: moderate carbonation, medium-heavy body, roasty bitterness

Overall: I am usually wowed by Allagash, however this beer did not do this for me. It is a solid roasty porter and a nice slow drinker. Above average, but nothing I would seek out again.

freaking awesome brew right here. this is apparently an annual happening, in some different form each year. my first year partaking. a porter brewed with blood oranges, fun! dark brown, hazy, and well carbonated with a nice soft tan head, looks like a normal porter. the nose gives hints of citric acidity and fresh fruit, I couldn't tell you blood oranges directly, but it is a lot like one of those chocolate oranges, plenty of cocoa here. the taste agrees, hoppy for a porter too, with zesty orange and fruity sugars counteracting the bitter, almost burnt malt base. chocolate bitter and sweet carries through the finish. this is just a little thin on the body, not sturdy enough for fall, but the lower abv for a special release and the lively carbonation make it a fun beer to session. fairly priced and completely unconventional. why hasn't anyone done this before. id like to bust a bottle out pre thanksgiving feast, its got that vibe.

I don't go to Allagash very often for a rew different reasons but I wanted to try this years version of this beer.Poures a deep cola color with a nice big rocky light beige head that becomes creamy as it settles into a frothy mass.Aromas of dark roast and mineral-like yeastiness wich was different, although it might be an American porter it is heavy handed in the yeast department.A little sharp in the mouth but mouthfeel is about right.Espresso roast coffee flavors along big earthiness and yeast, faint citric notes in the finish.Hmm it's not bad but I was expecting a little more I guess .
