A gorgeous facility. In an industrial park, but wooded, and they pay a decent amount of attention to architecture and landscaping. The tour was a tour. A dry tour, unfortunately (oh for the glory days of most-likely-illegal midwest tours that would stop several times through so the host could go grab more pitchers). But, like I said, the building is really glit and pretty and the barrel aging sections are nice.

This one is hard to rate, however, because there really isn't a bar. You get some tasting samples with the tour (4 per person, I think), and you can buy retail beer. But you can't get full pours or otherwise hang around. They're pretty consistently busy, with new tours coming in constantly, so they kinda push you along.

Also, the retail shop is a little overpriced, even by the typically overpriced standards of other brewery shops. And you can't get anything there that's not easy to find in other beers stores in New England.

So... I dunno. In a way, it's a worth a visit. You got a couple other excellently breweries within 2 blocks, and both of those have full pours and beergardens, so you can make Allagash a part of a bigger beer trip. They're also a world class brewery that has done much to help build the east coast craft scene, as well as to raise awareness of Belgian style beers in the US. So there's all that. But that type of cultural import really isn't reflected in the tour, which while pleasant enough isn't particularly unique or informative.

Final verdict: if they're open, stop by. If you get there and they're closed, you're not missing all that much by going straight to Foundation or Bissell. And, again, the tour is dry and you're only given a few samples, so you might want to stop by one of the other breweries beforehand, just to work up a buzz.

Visited this brewery while vacationing up in Maine. Informative tour, got to view both the "old brewery" which still produces a lot of their experimental small batch stuff, and the "new brewery" which handles the majority of their distribution. Had some great beers, their "16 Counties" and "Black/Belgian Stout" were both very good brews.

Albeit in an industrial parkway, they have a fairly nice spot, with a mostly wood-centric interior. It gets quite loud and boisterous in there, not just from the throngs of people that randomly appear for their free samples, but also because the brewing process is in no way hidden from the patrons and can become very loud even in the tasting room.

Tastings are free, service is prompt and concise, but you are only allowed four 4 ounce tasters, with a quick rundown of everything you're experiencing that day. You can not buy a full pour. You can be patient for your tasting by going on a tour, or just get straight to the beer. It's a nice way to get a quick intro to some brews you may not have had. However, for me, the main focus of coming here is to snag some of their rarer bottles, which at the time was Coolship Cerise, and they had plenty of it in stock.

One of the rare opportunities to see a mid-size craft brewery. Impressive production facility. The taproom is high quality. Nice wood work. A number of seating options including a large patio with bean bag set. Staff was helpful, fast, and courteous. The free 4 beer flight is fantastic and includes more than just typical shelf beers. It'd be great to sample some of their wild or coolship offerings in some way, which is really the only knock on the facility.

Awesome location, super friendly people, and good parking. Would be nice if there were food offerings someday, as the patio area would be great for a beer and sandwich.
