Notes / Commercial Description:
Our sour cherry ale blends an abundance of tart Montmorency Michigan cherry juice with a pleasantly sour berliner weisse beer. From their blossoms to their fruits, cherry trees represent a circle of life that is short and sweet, or in this case, tart. The fruit is ripe. Enjoy it now!

Mashed-strawberry colored body that looks thin but is very opaque and hazy. Small amount of off-white head of tiny bubbles that falls quickly and leaves a light swirl of film on top of the beer. A few spots of soft lacing.

Good hit of cherry on the nose -- definite high point of the beer -- with light biscuit, grassiness, and strawberry. There is also a spice of some kind -- cinnamon or nutmeg or clove? -- that is very subtle but very noticeable. Adds an interesting element alongside the cherry, though I would trade the spice note for more cherry. Overall very mild and soft, but quite nice.

The cherry is there on the tongue, but just barely. The spice, too, but I still can't make out exactly what it is. The cherry is so mild on the tongue that if you told me it was a strawberry or raspberry Berliner Weiss, I'd probably believe you. Definitely a little tartness and acidity, but, again, very, very mild. Really not much else going on, other than some faint esters. Back of the sip falls off into nothingness, though a faint sweet-and-sour note lingers on the palette. Certainly easing drinking, and we are talking about a 4% beer, but to some degree comes off as a watered down cider. Could see this being a good beer for a hot day on the beach or a boat, where you're looking for cold and clean. But if you're looking for flavors and a real tart hit, this probably isn't your beer.

Feel is very light and effervescent, as the carbonation level is fairly high (and nice).

One of those "fine" beers that I'd certainly drink if offered, especially in warm weather or as a transition beer between hops and malts. And the cherry note on the nose is really awesome. But the rest of the beer is fairly un-noteworthy, so I certainly wouldn't seek it out proactively.

Exceptionally delicious... like a tart cherry pie with delicate notes of cinnamon on the finish.
