Notes: We worked with Paradise Roasters to source green coffee beans that we then aged in a bourbon barrel. After aging, Paradise Roasters roasted the beans fresh for us to infuse into the beer, along with a heavy dose of Cacao nibs for a rich chocolate coffee flavor. Barrel aging to coffee prior to roasting brings in hints of vanilla and wood to complement the coffee and chocolate flavors of the beer.

A: The beer is jet black in color. It poured with a short tan head that quickly died down, leaving a small patch of bubbles on the surface and a narrow collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light aromas of coffee beans are present in the nose.
T: The taste has strong flavors of chocolate and coffee beans with a touch of sweetness from the cacao nibs.
M: It feels medium- to full-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation. There is a touch of dryness in the finish.
O: This stout has a bold taste of both chocolate and coffee. I particularly liked how the cacao nibs canceled out any bitterness. It was remarkably drinkable and any traces of alcohol were well hidden from the taste.

Thanks, Sam!

Got this and a whole bunch of other goodies from Sam. Had had two beers from Lupulin before, giving a hazy IPA a 4.40 and a DIPA a 3.82. Can description read, “We worked with Paradise Roasters to source green coffee beans that we then aged in a bourbon barrel. After aging, Paradise roasted the beans fresh for us to infuse into the beer, along with a heavy dose of Cacao nibs for a rich chocolate coffee flavor. Barrel aging to coffee prior to roasting brings in hints of vanilla and wood to complement the coffee and chocolate flavors of the beer.” The shortened version was, “Imperial Stout infused with Cacao Nibs and Bourbon Barrel Aged Coffee Beans.” Yummy.

Poured a pitch black color with two fingers of khaki tan frothy head. Lots of bubble streams creeping up along the sides of the glass. Decent watery lacing. Average retention. (Sight - 3.50)

Smelled big roasted barley, crayon, semi-char wood, ashtray, bitter coffee beans, dark chocolate, vanilla, oaky wood and cacao nibs. (Smell - 3.75)

Tasted about as good as the nose. In order got roasted barley, crayon, semi-char wood, bitter coffee beans, dark chocolate, oaky wood, molasses, vanilla and cacao nibs. Grew on me as it went down. Initially was tasting that 11 pct. ABV, but it gradually got a little smoother. (Taste - 4.00)

Full body. Sticky texture. Soft carbonation. Long, warming finish. (Feel - 4.25)

This beer really grew on me. Outstanding overall, but creeping on excellent. (Overall - 4.00)
