Canned 3/21/19

A: Jet black pour with a very tall and extremely dense brown head. The head is so dense that you have to look really closely to see any bubbles at all, it appears completely solid at first. Excellent head retention but minimal lacing.

S: Tons of raspberry with a backing of chocolate.

T: Raspberry up front and lots of it. Chocolate follows but it's quite dark. Like a 80-90% cacao bar. Some coffee-ish notes in the middle with a bit of roast. Lingering raspberry and chocolate in the aftertaste.

M: Heavy, smooth and a bit oily.

O: It's a bit simple, I think the chocolate and raspberry are overpowering the base beer. Having said that, I love both raspberry and chocolate and especially when they are combined. They balance nicely as well, the raspberry is quite sweet and the chocolate is very bitter. Overall a very nice flavored beer.

Taste is raspberry tart or jelly donut filling, followed by flavorful coffee and some bitterness. Interesting mouthfeel, like a small chewy section of the sweet raspberry jam. The chocolate used is bitter so it comes off mostly like a coffee flavor to me. But this is pretty good IMO, a nice balance of the ingredients used even though it serves as a dessert beer.

Pours decently, black/dark brown appearance, leaving a thin layer of mocha head.

Aroma is somewhat medicinal raspberry, and cherry-esque. Taste: medicinal cough-drop raspberry flavor and weird acrid astringency and roast on the drink down. No trace of chocolate as advertised. Super thin mouthfeel. Terrible stuff.

Overall, swing and a huge miss. Drain pour. Mind-blowing that they canned this garbage, but so was Full Grown Nick.

Poured from a can into a snifter
Appearance – The beer pours a nearly pitch-black color with a one finger head of tan colored foam. The head fades very fast leaving almost no lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the brew is massive of a roasted malt smell mixed with a sweet peanut butter and a big milk chocolate smell. Along with these smells comes lots of molasses and confectioners sugar as well as a big hit of a vanilla and some nice boozy smells. Overall, it is the aroma of a slightly boozy, rich milk chocolate peanut butter cup.
Taste – The taste begins with a very sweet dark roasted malt taste that has a whole lot of brown sugar, caramel, and confectioner sugar sweetness. Along with the big sweet comes some chocolate and a bit of vanilla as well as a little bit of dark fruit of plum and cherry. There isn’t a whole lot of peanut taste upfront, but as the taste moves forward the peanut butter gets stronger and stronger. All the while the dark fruit and the confectioners’ sugar gets even stronger all while the roast losses a bit of intensity. Along with these tastes comes a bit of a boozy taste as well as more peanut butter and a bit of a doughy flavor. The name of the beer as “Pastry Chef” is actually very fitting, because at the end of the taste one is left with a cocoa-peanut butter boozy, almost crème puff like taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is thicker and chewier with a carbonation level that is very low. The carbonation and feel are fantastic for all the very rich and dessert like taste of the brew and make this one nice warming sipper.
Overall – Another great reconditioning in the Full Grown series. This one is big and sweet with a nice peanut butter taste and a great warming feel. Very tasty and well worth a try when wanting a nice dessert like warmer!

This is a different stout from last year, and a better one in my opinion. Cinnamon and vanilla instead of chocolate and raspberry make it smoother and tastier. Boozy and sweet as always. (December 13, 2019)

My least favorite of the series (I'm put off by the taste of raspberry, and chocolate beers tend to be bitter) though for what it is, it's pretty good. Less smooth than its siblings, and the flavors don't sit as well in my opinion, but like its siblings, it's boozy and sweet and full bodied, which are points in its favor.

Got a 4-pack from my local Austin corner store. Raspberry definitely reminded me of the fruit filling in a doughnut! Great chocolate flavor, and overall solid stout from this amazing series.
