CANNED ON 08/25/2021. Poured into a Samuel Adams Perfect Pint.
A: Moderately hazy pale straw yellow with billowing 3-finger stark white frothy head with excellent retention and lumpy clouds of head floating atop the beer.
S: Aroma of melon-flavored cotton candy, but kind of sickly sweet because the esters are out of control.
T: Flavor is also very estery compared to other NEIPAs with the same candied-cotton candy overtone with orange and honeydew melon and some lighter herbal notes with low-moderate bitterness in the finish. Alcohol is well-hidden.
M: Very smooth without the chalkiness and overly soft feel - this beer hits the NEIPA feel right on the money with soft feel supported with medium carbonation and the more pithy bitterness in the finish which gives it a bit more dryness.
O: Not bad but the esters dominate the beer to its detriment to some extent. Not a wide variety of hop aroma and flavor but what it does, it does well. Still below-average for Ocelot’s stable.

When these two hops sing, they are two of my favorite and together, they can create a truly sensational IPA. Ocelot is one of the best producer and purveyor of hoppy beers in the state of Virginia so I was excited to try their take.
This pours a hazy murky golden. It's not muddy but more of that cantaloupe flesh with a more golden mango tone. I'm getting mango, white grape, freshly cracked. It's more citrusy in flavor, getting some grapefruit peel, a bit of that grape, and pepper character. I will say there's also a touch of sage. There's a really nice chewy texture to this. This is a good IPA.

This was clean and crisp, with lots of pithy citrus. An enjoyable IPA, but not much depth or complexity. Good not great, and below average for Ocelot.

From a growler, pours a pretty hazy light straw-gold. A finger of bright white foam leaves streaks of lacing. Smell and taste have tropical fruits, white grape juice, citrus, pine and a hint of onion. Feel is on the light side, but prickly carbonation just keeps it from being watery. The Citra and Nelson work well together. Maybe my favorite Ocelot IPA in a little while.

On tap at brewery:
Cloudy (versus hazy to translucent), this beer is near a paler white ale in looks. There is an almost blindingly white head, and it forms a screen of lacing as the beer is drunk.
Nose, is a light citrus marmalade with honeydew accompaniment and a little herbal garnish. Warmth brings out a grassy side to the herbal aspect.
A light friction on the feel, but a clean light heft has a very lightly sweet malt opening.
The hops do not try to overpower the beer, with the Citra bringing citrus rind with extra pith and a light herbal note early. Warmth brings a little more honeydew sweetness in taste, and a grape skin aspect to the feel. The back end starts clean, but a pithy bitterness starts growing, as if a thin layer gets added each swallow.
A fine clean, bitter IPA that doesn't kill you taste buds. Takes about half the glass for the bitterness to catch up and linger.
