The first bottling of the Baltika #9 Strong took place as far back as 1998. Beer lovers immediately appreciated the novelty.

In 2005 the brand cardinally changed its exterior and a little later Baltika Breweries started filling it into a convenient PET package that quickly became popular with consumers. At the same time the "Devyatka" (meaning "Nine") popular name became the official name and is now used on the label.

The collection of the Baltika Nine brand contains about ten awards of various international contests. In spring 2008 the Baltika Extra won a silver award of the annual Superior Taste Award contest in Brussels (Belgium) that is one of the most recognized contests of product quality in the world. The jury includes representatives of prestigious European culinary institutes and the International Sommelier Association (ASI) who make "blind testing" of the samples of the products submitted for the contest, which guarantees an unbiased voting result. The honorary award of the "Nine" is another proof of the compliance of this brand’s quality with the highest international requirements.

Baltika Nine is produced under a license in Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan & Azerbaijan.

A malt liquor that masks the alcohol very well. Slightly sweet with a hint of bitterness. Everything about it was average, except for mouthfeel, which was rather like having cotton in your mouth...go figrue that one out, I haven't. Put this in a 40 and market it as a high-class malt liquor import, which it is...

Compared to the other Baltikas, this one was not bad. It still has that heavy and unpleasant sweet taste you get with a high alcohol cheap beer; think Colt 45 or Cool Mule.

Poured from a 450ml bottle .

I'm going to honest , I didn't come close to finishing this .
Pours a brownish straw with a thin white head, the smell being of grassy ,malt and alcohol . All okay .
The taste grassy , slightly sweet , slightly malty and overridden by super strong alcohol flavour that burns your mouth , not in a good way . At 8% it shouldn't feel like that , it feels twice the abv .
Overall, it's strong and it wants you to know , it's this beers whole thing . It's strong , it tastes strong . Baltika can do better .

Poured from bottle. Amazingly enough this is still within BB date (as I write this, Russian embargo due to Ukraine is still on), BB date is 8/22/23.

Pours a light gold colour with no head. Smell almost reminds me of a stout/porter due to very malty aroma; taste follows with stout stickiness, some banana and sweetness.

Clear, light gold appearance with a white, average size head. Muted vegetal aroma strongly suggesting corn. Bland, modestly sweet taste with little focus on developing an interesting hop profile. Not skunky while chilled, but as it warmed a bit it lost what little appeal it initially had. A bit of an alcohol kick in the aftertaste. Medium-to-full bodied, moderately carbonated mouthfeel. Label is obscured so not sure of the best by date; got a feeling it's past its prime.

The pour is straw colored with a moderate amount of carbonation. The taste is between light to medium body, corn, mild caramel, grains, a little alcohol heat on the backend but nothing too off putting. Surprisingly, the 8% strong abv for a pale lager is melded well in this beer. All in all, I've not had too many strong abv pale lager but from what I've had I did care for much because the abv was not hidden well, this is actually not bad and I'm not drinking it bone chilling ice cold temperature either. If you thought about giving up on high abv pale lager you need to give this one a try, this is definitely not a poor grade failure of a beer but the beer is a little too sweet tasting for a lager. Cheers! B-

i didnt love this, its strange, but a strong export lager is cool when its challenging a little bit, so many samey beers in this space, so i liked it as a one and done, something new, especially with russian cuisine, cool we can even get this here in idaho! it pours a pretty honey color, not much head after a second, but it looks bubbly and about right for what it is, no complaints here. the nose is a tad sweet, corny to me, or even extract malt rather than all grain, cheap a little bit, but the alcohol is invisible which i think is somewhat uncommon in these. the flavor is sweet in a strange way up front, apple juice, hard cider, that kind of thing, definite red apple, honey, again maybe pale malt extract, a little caramel. thankfully i can taste some lager yeast which makes this more dynamic, and it finishes less sweet than it starts. very light hopping to finish, maybe not super fresh either, but it satisfies with rich flavorful food, study but palate cleansing enough too, and the carbonation is good. not in a hurry for another one, and i have liked some other baltika offerings better, but this was fun to try and better than its ratings here...

L: stale urine with minimal white head
S: faint bananas, malt, and hops
T: hopped water
F: somehow thick and cloying

This is a perfectly drinkable beer. The higher ABV isn't discernible. Probably would be very good with a meal. Is it something I would seek out and want to drink often? No. But drinkable.

Poured from a 15.22 Oz bottle into a pils glass.

Look is actually quite nice. Big fine and rocky 2 finger head. The head dissipated to a covering of white bubbles. Lively carbonation and a golden color with a very slight haze. Somehow this even does some lacing better than some craft beers.

Smell is not as nice as the look. Kind of reminds me of an American malt liquor but not as bad. This one does have some hops on the nose and some malt behind the off-ness of it. It is however an old bottle, and it says it's brewed on 23-10-20 which was about 1 year 3.5 months ago.

Taste follows the nose with the offers, but there is a bit of alcohol on the taste. There's also a bit of bitterness here I'm assuming from hops and the alcohol combining. The aftertaste is mostly watery, but there is a bit of light malt on the finish which is decent.

Feel is quite watery. Wish there was a bit more body. It's easy to put down but that's because it is so thin. The head does add a bit of mouth feel but it's not the longest lived.

Overall it's a decent strong lager. Better than malt liquor and at 8% there's much worse cheap (at least probably In russia) strong lagers out there. There are of course better ones too.

Pours a brilliant golden color. Clear, with a handful of large bubbles coursing upwards. Three finger white head forms on the beer before dissipating. However tons of lacing coats the glass as the head recedes and the beer is consumed. Also a thin residual layer of foam sticks around on the top of the beer. Aroma has notes of sweet malts, sweet bread - it kind of reads on the nose like an under attenuated beer. Very one note as well.

Taste has notes of sweet white bread, overly sweet malts and a strong and unmistakable banana ... I'm getting it so strongly in this its almost like Wells banana bread (just kidding, but not really). Its boozy and has a clear alcohol flavor to it. A light bitterness comes through on the back end, but its subtle and very much a secondary note. Feel is fuller bodied, syrupy, sticky, and heavy. Medium carbonation.

Once I figured out that the weird flavor I was getting was banana it really threw this on off for me. I finished it, but it was a chore getting through that last third. Drink it cold, drink it fast, or better yet, drink something else.

Beautiful clear, honey yellow body; lots of excellent carbonation; thick and creamy head, white and sculpted; thick foam rings circle the inside of the glass. Little aroma; very quiet sweetness and spiciness. A pleasantly sweet taste with a prominent but not in-your-face booziness; herbal; mild bitterness; some phenol presence. Heavy body with a slight velvety texture, creamy; fairly heavy residual sugar smoothness; slight alcohol warmth.

I wasn't expecting much from this beer yet wound up pleasantly surprised. The looks are rather phenomenal while the taste is fairly balanced for the style. The smell is very subdued. All in all, a nice strong lager.

L: Murky yellow straw with a short lived white head
S: not too bad, pleasant sweet malts and straw
T: Oh Dear God! Bitter and sweet at the same time and not in a good way. Over ripe apples & pears with background apple seeds, stale bread, undertones of some sort of solvent
F: slimy is the best description
O: I've tried to review this to the BA guidelines, but there are no redeeming qualities
