Baltika (Barry Group, Mallow, IE) “Zatecky Gus”
480 ml green glass bottle coded “03.12.21 06:31 03.12.22 5W” and sampled on 27 November 2022
1,89€ @ Farley New Projects S.L, Barcelona, ES

Notes via stream of consciousness: I love the label on this beer with the green and the gold, and the goose head backed by red up above. The beer itself, however, is basic and not of the best quality. It’s clear and deep golden in color beneath a finger’s width of creamy white foam but the aroma is telling me that it’s both skunked and oxidized. It’s malty, sweetish, lightly floral, and subtly herbal but also papery and lightly skunky. The flavor is not much better… well, actually it’s not any better at all. It’s not horrific but it follows the aroma and there’s not a lot there beyond that. I will say that the mildly floral, grassy, and herbal hops are quite nice but they’re dragged down by packaging imperfections. The other issue is that it’s imbalanced. The malt is sweet and there’s not enough bitterness to balance it properly. I understand that that’s part of what they’re going for in a beer like this, they want it to be readily drinkable, but just eight more IBUs would have made it better in terms of a being a Czech-style Pilsner. The head held up OK but not much better than expected of an average beer but the mouthfeel is quite nice. It’s soft and smooth but with enough carbonation that it gives you a light caress on the tongue. I’ll not buy this beer again unless I’m out on the street and walking about and just want something to nip at other than water.

Cerveza ligera, de carbonatación media y una imperceptible cabeza espumosa. Aroma a miel, malta y pan. En boca predomina el dulzor.

Can't seem to properly understand if this is a Czech or a Russian beer? It claims to be Czech, has Czech written all over but it's made by Baltika in St Petersburg...
At first sip it does taste like a Czech lezák with Saaz hops but soon it starts feeling cheap and artificial, to an extent that I had to stop drinking this 1l can halfway and poured it out into the gutter... that much it became sickening.
If you're looking for a proper Czech lezák cheap, outside the Republic then Samson the way to go. This one will just give you a headache and that, as such is not what you want from a proper beer.

Clear golden color with white head. Aroma is mostly malty and grainy with some fusel and cardboard notes. Taste starts grainy and follows with slightly tart fermented grains, a bit astringent and dry on the finish with a light acrid bitterness. Light body, medium carbonation. This one's actually quite bad, even for a macro lager.

From Combini Market. In Teku glass. Playing Draw_Love. Malty, with fresh herbal hops and a great feel. Very drinkable. May not be the most complex beer in the world but ideal for a good session

On-draught in Lviv, Ukraine in Spring 2016.

Very generic pale lager, but drinkable.

High D+ (2.50) / NOT RECOMMENDED

I'm from Belarus, that's a country near Russia and that's the only one russian beer you can actually drink. Nothing special about it, nothing really bad about it. It's better than commonly used american beer like Bud. So, if you want to try it go ahead and buy it. You probably won't like it but it's ok.
