Notes: This haze is pillowy-soft from oats and wheat in the grainbill, while sun-showers of hoppiness shine down through the clouds. Mosaic and Idaho 7 hops burst bright with the citrusy pith flavors reminiscent of tropical passion fruit and freshly peeled grapefruit. Keep your head in the clouds!

Yeah, we all make mistakes and mine was picking up this beer when it was old and thinking that it was a New England IPA. No, this wasn't a drain pour as there was any sediment to be seen in it! However, this was a bit of a malt bomb but I had to wonder if even a fresh can of this would feel more like an American Pale Ale or IPA more than anything else...

Brassy in hue and nicely hazy, this had plenty of foam topping it off as the lacing left behind was plenty thick and wavy as the rings left behind weren't level by any stretch. Tons of white chocolate, weed, deep citrus pith, and exotic hops in the muted nose as this felt like something from the opposite coast as the oats, grain, and exotic tropical fruit combined with the lively carbonation to ensure that this was categorized incorrectly on here. Tons of tropical fruit find in the aftertaste was evidence that the Idaho 7 and Mosaic were felt, even if the hop burn and bitterness weren't that overt.

The aftertaste was green and the malt felt sweet as it was hard to discern the alcohol in this. Dated 12/15 on the bottom of the can, this held up well for nearly being a year old but even if I had this fresh, I'd never think that this was a New England IPA. Bought this at ShopRite Liquors in Little Falls and as much as I enjoyed it as it warmed, more pillowy beers are readily available for most. If you like your IPA's green and a bit exotic, grab a can of this while wistfully thinking of what might have been...

Average pour fills half the pint glass with ease, frothy white foam, uneven surface, after it settles down some there's good retention, the lacing is wispy but there's lots of it. The golden straw liquid stays in the realm of translucency, steady streams of bubbles visible. Given it's branding as a NEIPA the nose is lean and impelled most by mineral water, peppercorns, lemon pith, and dried flowers, hard to discern any dankness, the fruit basic orchard fruit type stuff, nice cleansing presence though. Light-bodied, lots of carbonated prickle and it bounces across the tongue towards the finish. More mango, papaya in the mix here, minus any real juiciness. Violets and mint, has a savory saltiness as well. Citrus shades more towards white grapefruit but still getting some lemon too. Good bitterness at the end. Never in a zillion years would I guess this to be a NEIPA. That said, it's credible as a basic session IPA for hot summer days. (Can states best by 12/16/21)

Golden amber, yet brighter in color than many a representing member of this style. A pint can emptied into a clear Imperial pint glass avails the observation. The small white head is enduring. A healthy hoppiness is picked up by the nose and even a little bitterness is detected within the aroma. That is what the taste gets. For a brew that includes oats and doesn't have an extremely high ABV, this goes down a little too harshly. That wouldn't be so bad if the hop character was bolder, but it's not. The hops bring an almost astringent aspect to both the flavor and body, which becomes negatively distracting. Not horrible, but way short of being a well balanced IPA of any sort, especially a NEIPA.

A thanks goes out to the incredible woodychandler for this beer. Poured from a 16 oz. can. Has a hazy golden color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of tropical fruits. Taste is passion fruit, mango, some grapefruit, moderate bitterness. Feels medium/full bodied in the mouth and overall is a solid beer.

Can dated 12/15/20 into pint glass. Pours a hazy gold-amber with a coarse off-white head. Initial impression is orange, grapefruit, mango, and caramel. Mouthfeel is fairly soft and pillow-y. Finish is initially sweet but quickly fades to a dank bitterness. Overall, this is not what I'd regard as true to the NEIPA style - it's too bitter, not particularly flavorful, and the mouthfeel is almost dry instead of juicy. Maybe the age of this can (4.5 months) has some effect, but even fresh I doubt this would be one I'd visit again.

On tap, served in a Shaker pint glass.

L---Hazy, burnt orange color. Nice enough head, but no retention or lacing.

S---Sweet & fruity. Grapefruit, mango, orange. Full of citrus & tropical notes.

T---Follows the nose pretty precisely. Lots of citrus & tropical fruits.

F---Not much carbonation. Medium mouthfeel.

O---A solid NEIPA from a brewery I was unfamiliar with. I will keep an eye out for Levante in the future.

16oz can purchased from the fridge as a single for $4.49. Canned on 9/10/2020, so this is just over 7 1/2 weeks old.

Look: Very hazy, barely translucent medium orange color. One-finger off-white head upon pour that reduced to a thin compact-bubble layer with nice lacing. Lots of tiny bubbles rising in the glass.

Smell: A nice nose with a mixture of citrus and tropical aromas and some green notes. Up front, lots of mango and orange zest. Other flavors are not as well defined: could be apricot/peach fuzz, passion fruit, papaya, and melon. Back end of the nose, has some green grassy notes, spicy notes, and faint green bell pepper.

Taste: Up front, sweetness and a bit of juicy tanginess from the citrus and stone fruit flavors. Lots of mango, peach, and orange flavors. The sweetness and juiciness quickly transition to bitterness that is very pithy, spicy, herbal green, and lingering. I like bitterness, but to me the bitterness is just too much and it's not pleasant the way it is coming forth here.

Feel: Nice soft mouthfeel.

Overall: To me, something is missing here. There are elements that are expected to be present that are there; but there are other elements that are expected to be present that are not there. To me, this beer is not a balanced NEIPA. It has sweetness and juiciness up front and it has greenness and bitterness on the finish. But to me those elements are not balanced and the mid-palate is lacking. Maybe it's the way that the Idaho 7 is coming across? I definitely like Mosaic hops but I am not as familiar with Idaho 7. It's sad to say but it's not a given that a 2 month old NEIPA will be experienced as the brewer intended when it was canned! I will gladly try other offerings from local brewer Levante when they become available to me.

Through dumb luck and poor management, or some such, as are the hallmarks of The CANQuest (tm), I have a small brewery horizontal from Levante BC to run through. It would include a few of their ReVibe seltzers, but they are sadly not recognized on this site. 8=(

From the CAN: "Cloudy & Cumbersome N. E. Style IPA"; "Hops: Mosaic, Idaho 7".

I was eager to Crack! open the vent, but first, I CANducted some in-CAN agitation since it was billed as a N. E. Style IPA & clarity was not a CANsideration. Once opened, I went with a steady, free-flowing C-Line Glug into the awaiting glass. This resulted in the formation of two-plus fingers of foamy, fizzy, rocky, eggshell-white head with modest retention, quickly falling away to wisps. Color was a faintly hazy Golden-Amber (SRM = > 5, < 7). Nose was very much of tropical fruits with some peach thrown in for good measure. Mouthfeel was medium with a softness on the tongue. The taste remained mostly tropical fruity with a light grapefruit citrusiness as its CANterbalance. Finish was semi-dry and pleasantly refreshing. I was underwhelmed by the whole experience. I like this brewery, but this beer just was not doing it for me. YMMV.

Canned on 6-8-20.

A - Extremely hazy and borderline opaque. Dark orange in color with creamy white lacing and little to no carbonation.

S - Fruity, floral, pungent citrus, mango, and stone fruit on the nose.

T - Juicy floral, tropical fruit, juicy grapefruit, light peppery spice grapefruit rind, juicy pine, and finishes fruity and balanced.

M - Finishes a little dry on the back of the tongue while the rest of the mouth waters.

O - I really dig this IPA...nice job Levante!
