AW Shucks Country Store

This is a diamond in the rough. Awesome beer on tap and food pairing.

V: They're trying for a country store atmosphere here, and for the most part they succeed. It has all the typical attributes of a gas station / convenience store, but they serve lots of greasy food (always a plus). Everything's clean and organized.

Q: I didn't inspect every bottle of beer, but they appeared to be fresh. Not much staleness to be had.

S: Service was friendly and prompt, though I didn't have any beer-related questions.

S: Not a bad selection for an out of the way place. Most of what they have is in six packs, with some singles. They had a big selection of local & state beers (Midnight, Kindred Spirit, Reason) and national (Evil Twin, Firestone, Against the Grain). No foreign beers that I could see. Some BMC, but that's to be expected. Nothing overly exotic in the selection, but certainly solid.

It's a country themed store on the Edge of Richmond, so the vibe meanders between outskirt suburban soccer mom and "Bubba", which doesn't lend itself to a full on craft immersion, BUT, the cooler and growler to go selection is clearly well thought out and in no way reflects the mainstream clientele. Place is clean on an OCD level, food is on par with a restaurant, not a C store, and overall, it's inviting in a folksy Cracker Barrel sorta way. No reason to not drop in if nearby.
