T: yeasty bubble gum
M: light-bodied, carbonated

12oz brown bottle with a freshness date.
Clear pale copper hue, thin white lacing. Phenolic bubblegum, paprika, crackers and floral alcohol in the nose. Grassy grain slowly unfolds within the crispness, herbal phenols and persimmons in the middle. Yeast and a spicy warming alcohol rounds out the drying finish.
Not too shabby for their take on the Tripel, perhaps a little bit too much phenolic flavor for my liking in a Tripel but tasty none the less.

I'm not sure if I got a bad batch of this - but this is no Tripel. First of all - the color is more like an amber ale. I knew that was not a good sign. Smell is like that stale beer smell after a huge party. Taste is poor - it's just off, almost skunked. Not a drain pour - but very very disappointing. One of the few where the rating on BA is not indicative of the overall quality of the beer.
I bought a sixer of this and I feel like they'll be in my fridge for a while.
Won't be buying again.

Bottled 1/27/14 in Dover, DE a bit different than the Old Dominion I used to know from Virginia. However the beer pours a clouded golden orange body, bright white head. Big mélange' of tropical fruit, spicy yeast, and bubblegum on the nose. Flavors are a bit harsh with alcohol and unfermented residual sugars leftover, let me have the beer warmed up a bit before I pass final judgment. I'm getting spice pears/cantaloupe very nice pleasant flavors going on. The biscuit malt with honey tinged sweetness from the Belgian candi sugars leaves a nice diabetes inducing glucose tolerance to my palate. Spicy edge to the yeast character with the residual sugars adds some harshness on the mouthfeel, not as effervescent as most Belgian offerings of this style but for an American version I'm pretty happy. Overall, it shows growth from the same brewery that makes the Double D which is a very sweet unadulterated DIPA from the same series of pin up girls. I'm okay with this offering and feel it will improve with fermentation in the bottle look at all the yeast sediment in the bottom of your glass.

I tried this beer thinking I was trying a new Belgian Tripel. But, I was disappointed. It was not like any other Tripel I have had till date. It did not taste like a high quality beer. It tasted cheap. I won't be a customer again.

12 oz bottle, poured into a pint glass
Appearance: Pours a beautiful, clear, golden color, speckled with peach and orange highlights and a finger of white-colored head that quickly dissolved away into a thin lacing of foam that only partially covered the top of the beer.
Aroma: Very aromatic with lots of bready, toasted malt, imparting notes of freshly baked French baguettes and sourdough rolls. There is also a ton of Belgian yeast, imparting funky, musty, barnyard-like notes of stray, wet horse blanket, and saddle leather. I also get notes of spices such as black pepper, coriander, saffron, clover, honey suckle, as well as fruits such as peach and apple. Finally, I get some candied sugar and honey. Smells delicious and inviting.
Taste: Wow! What great flavors! Strong, delicious flavors of bready, toasted malt up front, followed by lots of candied sugar and honey-like sweetness; spices of black pepper, coriander, saffron, clover, honey suckle, as well as fruits such as peach and crisp, tart, apple. Finally, there’s quite a bit of floral, funky Belgian yeast, imparting notes of freshly cut grass, straw, clover, heather and lavender. Delicious!
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied and very smooth, as there is no carbonation what-so-ever. With an ABV of 9.5%, there is just a hint of alcohol warmth on the palate. Actually, I’m surprised at how well masked the alcohol is.
Overall: This is an outstanding Belgian-triple! Funky, fruity, semi-tart and semi-sweet. Delicious! I’m definitely getting it again! Highly recommended!

Old Dominion Brewing Co. "Candi"
12 oz. brown glass bottle, "BOTTLING DATE: 06/03/15"
$1.99 @ Total Wine & More, Claymont, DE
Appearance: An almost fingerprint-clear deep golden body beneath a short-lived head of bright white. Lacing is limited.
Aroma: Sugar, soft spice, phenols, cedar, tart apple.
Flavor: Sugar, fruit (apple, some citrus, sharp red fruit like berry/cherry), and minor yeasty mineral/chalkiness which helps to dry the finish along with the spiciness and alcohol. Very firm bitterness.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a dextrinous edge - perhaps medium-full. A very fine bubbled median carbonation leaves it gently bristling.
Overall: It comes on strong but loses it's charm, becoming just strong (the alcohol is clearly noticeable). There's a lot going on in the flavor profile but it's not quite full enough, leaving it kind of angular rather than rounded. Finally, the carbonation seems a little low, and although that may help to soften its edges, it would probably be better with a bit more zest as it becomes kind of lifeless halfway through the glass.
