From an undated 12oz bottle into a pint glass. Pours black with a half finger of light brown head that dissipates quickly, little to no lacing. Smell is faint but cocoa and smokiness are noticeable. Tastes of chocolate, smoke and coffee. Pretty well balanced. Mouthfeel is smooth but a little thin. Not the best stout I've ever had, but overall a nice one.

L. Black with a huge tan head which fades in a few minutes.
S. Chocolate malt, toasted malt, smokey, vanilla, coconut.
T. Moderately sweet vanilla, dark to bitter chocolate, oak-y bitterness, then bready to caramely sweetness, cocoa and a smokey burnt marshmallow toward the finish.
F. Medium body, moderate carbonation, smooth.
O. Not too sweet but it is flavorful, and it's not over done but a unique stout it is though. I would recommend this one.

Poured from a bottle into a snifter glass. Effectively no head produced, very strange. Dark brown color, fairly close to coffee appearance. Smell is faintly of oak and malt, not much though. Taste is similar to the smell, with a pretty light body and light-medium carbonation. Drinkable, especially as it warms, but pretty "meh".

Coming on the heels of Founders Porter, this one suffered a bit in comparison. 5.5% ABV, 45 IBU, picture of girl in barrel on label. Head surprisingly thin, taste pedestrian overall, didn’t get much sense of the vanilla bean, some roasted malt and smokiness, just average.

Form the 12 oz bottle in a snifter. This mighty fine stout pours a
deep blackish brown with a nice head of off white foam that settles
to a thick ring, light subtle film,. and shows spotty lacing. Nose of
oak, smoke, deeply roasted malts, subtle earthy tones, and a hint of
vanilla with char. Flavors are perfect for the style showing a char
laced chocolate malt touched with coffee and smoke that dance
about earthy malts and subtle oak flavors. Vanilla is very light
with a lightly zesty hop note that is balanced and perfect.
nice mouth feel; full body, light carbonation that is just enough to
give lift to this stout, and a lightly dry finish.

12 ounce bottle poured into a tulip glass. While pouring through light, the beer was clear, not cloudy. Once poured, it is opaque, impenetrable dark brown. Nice fluffy light brown head had little retention and faded to a cap. Nice lacing.

S---Burnt malts. Nothing else detectable under the heavy charred malt aroma. No subtleties sneaking through.

T---A touch of vanilla, as advertised. A slight chocolate note as well. Charred malts follow from the nose, but there are subtle flavors as well in the taste.

F---Fairly light. Decent carbonation. Almost an oily feel on a few sips (??).

O---A nice stout. I definitely would drink another. It was, however, a little bit of a letdown as I was expecting more based on the oak/vanilla on the label.

One of my favouritr stouts by far. Impenetrable dark stout colour. Oak and vanilla bean one the nose. An upfront smokey oak hits the back of my tongue, with a caramel and vanilla note coming in after. Mild bitterness that compliments the taste very well. No overwhelming vanilla taste, which instead compliments the smoked taste. A terrific stout! 6pk for $10.99
Well worth the money. I've mildly aged one 8 or so months and it reduces the bitterness a bit, and helps to draw out the oak even more.

Good tasting stout. Not as thick of a taste/texture as other stouts but not so far as to me not buying again. Had a different label on mine, one with a chick in a barrel have a good time. Could be a older or newer style? Anyway, good beer!

Dark brown root beer color. Beautiful light brown, worn saddle-leather looking foamy head. Malty aroma. Picking up malty, notes of coffee, chocolate in the flavor / taste. Well-carbonated. Maybe even a little caramel in the smell.

Not a bad brew...3 out of 5. She pours dark with a tan head. Smells of oak and vanilla. Mouthfeel is smooth with a sharp charcoal bite in the aftertaste. Makes you want to sip it, enjoy it....spend some time with it. Not a bad beer at all

Medium black with a thin tan cap. Oak and smoky malt in the nose, simple yet well balanced. Taste adds some vanilla, toasted caramel, char, and anise, nothing too powerful but all present, a more subdued complexion. Feel is smoky, oaked, and malty. Nice stout that is subtle yet well balanced

Bottle to pint glass.

AROMA:Deep woody sweet aroma. Toasted malt.
LOOK: Thin black appearance, medium off white head.
TASTE: is dark chocolate, ash.
FEEL: is too thin for a stout and and then too flat to be a porter/dark ale.

Not bad, but something off here.

This was poured into a nonic pint glass. The appearance was a dark brown close to black color with a thick off white foamy and creamy two finger head. As the head dissipated, thin clingy spider webbing lacing sticks along the sides of the glass. The smell had a big luscious sweet milk chocolate rolling into a dark chocolate and roasty coffee tones. Vanilla and woody notes help to balance. The taste took all of those previously mentioned flavors to combine and make sweet adding a light smoke to further balance. A super smooth creamy roasty sticky sweet aftertaste leads into a big sticky sweet finish. On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a nice roasty coffee to sweet vanilla stickiness on my tongue. Overall,, where did this come from! Love this stuff! Definitely would have again!

Smooth and smokey with hints of vanilla. If you're looking for heavier notes try Ballast point. Did get the peaty flavor as well. Easy drinking and very light to either have another or step up on the stouts you have in your fridge. Tastes more like a Porter to me based on the lack of heaviness

A: The beer is jet black in color. It poured with a quarter finger high dark tan head that died down, leaving a thin layer of bubbles on the surface and a collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light aromas of dark, roasted malts are present in the nose along with some hints of oak.
T: The taste follows the smell, but the roasted malt flavors aren't as prominent and there are stronger notes of oak and vanilla.
M: It feels medium-bodied and yet slightly thin on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: I liked the balance of flavors in this stout as you could get equal amounts of roasted malts, oak, and vanilla in the flavors.

Look: Pours black in color with a fizzy, off-white colored head that dissipates quickly. Appears to be slightly thin for a stout.

Smell: Vanilla, roasted malts, coffee, wet dog.

Taste: Loads of vanilla. Roasted malts. Raisins. Sharpie marker. Subtle oak notes. Not really sure if they're real or if my brain is imagining them from the label of the beer.

Feel: Thin, and mouth-filling foamy carbonation. It's warm, it's abv is considerably noticed.

A: Dark black with very little of a cream-colored head.
N: Coffee and roasted malt. I do not detect any of the vanilla
T: Still not much of vanilla. Very pleasant roastiness and not much bitterness. Oakiness comes forward toward the end.
M: Very smooth and creamy. Mild carbonation.
O: A great stout in my books, even though I'm not an expert in this style.

Poured from bottle into tulip, nice 2 finger creamy tan head that recedes to 1 finger and decides to stay for a while. Nice lacing. Looks way bigger than a 6% stout, dark as night and no light passing thru. Smells of chocolate, roasted malt, caramel, vanilla, and all the things that make up a great stout. Taste initially a tad bitter, but quickly smooths out. There is some smoke/char to this along with chocolate, roasted malt and vanilla. The mouthfeel is great on this beer for being so low in ABV. Very creamy in the mouth and it has that nice somewhat smokey/vanilla/oak aftertaste the lingers a while. I really wish this beer made it down south

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a tulip.

L: Pours a clear black color. Mahogany tinged around the edges. Thin tannish-brown head leaves a bit of lacing.

S: Vanilla front and center... roasted malts and char.

T/F: Chocolate and roasted malts... slightly smokey and of course Vanilla. Very smooth... almost creamy in mouthfeel. Low carbonation as expected. Finish is dry with a faint touch of hop bitterness to clean out the off-sweet opening.

O: A pleasing barrel aged stout, with great flavor especially given the relatively low ABV. Still a sipper, just to enjoy the complex flavors but very nice indeed.

A dark pour with a hint of reddish hue when held up to a light. Slightly disappointed with the small thin head but it was a nice creamy tan color just thin. Other than that this is a very good beer. On the nose, it had a nice chocolate vanilla character. Taste starts smooth not overly bitter, kind of that sweet chocolate vanilla mid-taste with a smokey earthy slightly bitter finish. It also has a lighter carbonated feel for a dark stout. Could easily drink several more :)

Black pour going towards deep auburn toward the edge. Head was barely perceptible at 1/6", tan. Aroma was pretty tame, didn't get any of the smoke/peat that was described, much less any amount of vanilla or oak. Not bad, just not putting out much smells.

Taste finally revealed some of that stuff, a very small amount of vanilla and oak. I appreciated the easy going nature and not over the top abv that necessitates Chicago pouring a barrel aged stout for a million people. Some earth and leather notes into it, mild chocolate. Everything is in a restrained way. Still think it could bring around a little more to jump into another level.

Ordered this in a hotel bar. Light head,a little lace around the meniscus. Aroma was a mild chocolate, not too strong but pleasing. Dark black color, but clear if you view the edges. Not bubbly like a nitro stout. Nice mildly smoky overtones, a hint of vanilla (but not too much!). Not hoppy, and it shouldn't be! Crisp mouth feel. A really clean stout!

(A)ppeance - nice brown color when poured, settling to a dark brown. Nice head that lingered with some good lace.
(S)mell - very light, no real roasty aroma, but some slight floral notes from the hops.
(T)aste - light roasty taste but no other real flavors, light coffee like Folgers...light not dark.
(M)outh feel - thins and watered down, not like stout but more like a schwartzbier.
(O)verall - good, but not great...liked the head and could actually detect the hops, but body and taste were a bit thin and underwhelming for a stout.
