12oz. pint on tap at Pinocchio's in Media, PA.

A: Opaque black with a two-finger creamy tan head. Absolutely no light shining through, even when held up to direct sunlight. Head retention is superb, with some decent khaki lacing left down the glass.

S: Coffee, caramel, hints of vanilla, oak, and bourbon-like booze.

T: Lots of roasted malts upfront provided some smokiness and sweetness; vanilla and caramel with some underlying roasted coffee bitterness and some boozy bourbon. Lots of roasted flavors in the finish. Bourbon character comes through a lot as the beer warms.

M: Full-body, smooth as satin with tons of creaminess and subdued carbonation. Not overly heavy, went well with some appetizers.

O: Definitely one of the better stouts I've had. Lots of rich, complex flavors with smooth drinking qualities. A definite recommendation.

This brew, and a few others from Old Dominion, have recently found their way into North Carolina. And they're inexpensive! Perhaps because of some introductory pricing plan, OD's Oak Barrel Stout is selling for $3.99 a six-pack. Quite a deal if you like this beer; I'm sure this price won't last long!

It pours thick and black with a tan head that sticks around briefly before disappearing into the ether. The smell of dark coffee dominates the aroma, while a mild vanilla/bourbon character lingers in the background. There is also a hint of bittersweet chocolate as well. It's thick and creamy on the tongue. I find the carbonation is a bit much, but that's a normal bias of mine. The aroma is reflected nearly wholesale in the flavor; coffee, vanilla, bourbon, and chocolate are front and center. There is a mild sweetness as well, which is probably best interpreted as fruity. Wood flavors, along with a light hop bitterness, are very present in the finish.

This is a great American stout, and the solid mouthfeel and flavor make it one to be enjoyed slowly. Hmm, this is very good with vanilla ice cream!

330ml bottle bought from GapWines, Belfast

Poured pretty much pitch black. Dirty mocha tan head poured small but tight, thick and foamy then faded quite quickly to decent half finger coating... some light clingy lacing...

Aroma - Strong roasted dark chocolate malts mixed with a good dose of freshly ground coffee beans, burnt butter, cola traces, vanilla, some piney / grassy hops, toasted (charred ?) malt loaf, chocolate cookie dough, slight smokiness, cocoa powder...

Taste - Strong charred / sooty notes, bitter black coffee mixed with sweetish milk chocolate and also some dark bitter chocolate... lots of pepperiness, vanilla, light oakiness, light pine, some powdered chocolate, light treacle, grassy and earthy traces, some tobacco smokiness, faint roasted nuttiness...

Feel - Quite smooth and creamy... medium / full bodied.. a very quaffable brew even at 6% - no real trace of the alcohol..

Overall - A very good stout and better than i was expecting... recommended...

12oz bottle poured into snifter on 04/18/2011. Bottled on 03/10/10. Black body with a thick and creamy tan head. Good retention and decent lacing. My nose picks up bitter chocolate, roasted malts, a touch of vanilla, and coffee. The taste is the same but add in some caramel, brown sugar, and something boozy? Low ABV for that but it seems to be there. Full bodied, low carbonation, and a slightly dry finish. Good beer and my first from Dominion. If this is any indication of what they offer then I will be back ASAP.

On tap at the Vienna Inn.

Nice appearance in the glass, opaque brown to black color, tan head is frothy. Aroma is nice and roasty, with coffee and dark malts. Taste is also roasty in nature, bitter chocolate and roast coffee. Some vanilla come through toward the finish. Not real bitter in the end, this is an easy drinker.

Great smooth mouthfeel and a nice light to medium body. Again, an easy to drink stout with a great taste.

definitely has a burnt oak smell, but I detect almost a cascade dry hop with vanilla finish. very interesting.
mine appears to be pushed with co2, would be better if pushed with nitrogen to smooth it out.
I liked it, just didn't like the help cleaning thefloors while I was trying to taste.
