Enjoyed from the 12 oz bottle in a snifter via a friend from work---Thanks Randy!
This nice little ipa pours a bright and clear medium amber with a very nice head
of off white foam that subsides to a thick ring, thick pool, and excellent lacing.
Nose of caramel malts, pine hops, herbal hops, and fresh biscuit. Flavors follow
the nose with biscuit notes and caramel malt backbone touched by pine and herbal
hops that finish bitter on the rear with a pine and herbal hop aftertaste. Nice mouth
feel, smooth, medium light carbonation, and a lightly dry finish with a touch of hop
resin. Overall, a decent little IPA.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a tulip.

L: Pours a semi-opaque dark golden amber color. Two fingers of off-white head leave ample lacing on the sides of the glass.

S: Mild on the nose... some herbal and pine hops and malts.

T/F: Dry... biscuity malts and a modest herbal/evergreen hops. Reasonable bitterness... malts more dominant than expected. Good carbonation... medium in body. Finish is a bit sticky.

O: Not a bad IPA but also not a favorite. More on the malty side of things, and I thought the hop profile could have been more exciting. I'd have it again... wouldn't seek it out. Definitely wouldn't mind having her as my nurse.

Little surprised at the lukewarm reviews of this beverage. Very full bodied, deep amber color with an ok (but not amazing) finish. The concept and label are fun and drove the purchase. The taste will bring me back.

Nice medium amber color, off white head. Typical citrus hop notes. Taste is similar and clings to finish. Smells more piney at the bottom of the glass. (Probably warmer) not too hoppy..... its a very nice American Pale Ale. Pretty good I liked it and would drink again.

Cloudy amber with a foamy, off-white head that sticks around. Aromas malty and piney. Taste starts with malt and caramel with hoppy bitterness dancing around throughout and lingering on the finish. Somewhat creamy mouthful. Overall, a nice, full IPA with a good deal of saltiness and bitterness to match. If I hadn't been told that this was a tropical, citrusy IPA, I would have liked it more, but it didn't fit my expectations.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 9/23/2015. Pours lightly hazy/cloudy deep orange/copper color with a 2 finger dense and fluffy light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice dense foamy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, mango, lemon zest, orange peel, light pine, light caramel, toasted bread, and floral/grassy earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of citrus/tropical hops and moderate bready malt notes; with solid strength. Taste of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, mango, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, light caramel, toasted bread, and floral/grassy earthiness. Good amount of pine/citrus rind bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, mango, lemon/orange peel, pine, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/tropical/piney hops and moderate bready malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Moderate amount of dryness from bitterness as well. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately sticky, and slightly creamy/bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very good IPA. All around good robustness, complexity, and balance of citrus/tropical/piney hops and moderate bready malt flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

"Her passion for medicine incurable, her appetite for hops unmatched, Hannah finally found her calling. Post-mash citrus & floral notes are a welcome salute. "

Wait did they actually say appetite for hops unmatched ?!?!
It's a 45 IBU IPA !!! WTF

Old Dominion Hop Lips.

Another IPA out of one lf my favorite and widely available breweries. Old Dominion doesn't have to win me over, they did that shit alreadg with multiple fantastic beers that are highly underrated on this site. Hence prime examples why I take overly hyped ' whalez ' with a grain of salt. Beer three out of five for the night, here we go.

Look - From the twelve ounce bottle into a pint glass. Pours an easily see through amber with a finger and a half of slightly off white head thag sticks around for about a minue, though eventually dying down to a cloud formation amongst the top of the glass. The carbonation appears to be about on the levels of moderate with this brew. The lacing that remains is quite minor.

Smell - Reminds me a lot of a rye beer though with more hop presence than rye. Big dank and tropical hoppiness up front with the usual grapefruit suspects and even a nice dosage of mango. Even a smidge floral in this aspect. Basically 25% bread, 75% hops is a good way to sum up the nose.

Taste - It virtually all follows the smell. Big tropical notes directly on the frontier with a cutting, though welcomed friendly guest of lightly baked rye bread. Grapefruit piths and mangos galore and bready malts to make the taste feel heavier. Not much else to say here though it is admittedly nice for a lower ABV standard IPA.

Feel - The body on this beer is about as you would expect. Though it is a bit fuller and ever so slightly creamy with a moderate level of carbonation. Swallows easy as can be and leaves your mouth coated in a nice dank hoppiness along with the cut of rye I mentioned earlier.

Overall - This beer is the epitome of a 4 rating. Bettee than your average though not exactlt what I would call mind blowing. The ratings on this one really do not match the actual profiles of the beer. An eash drinker with more than enough flavor to satisfy just about any hophead, without going too over the top. Sessionable as can be and a perfect sixer to grab for any occassion. Old Dominion once again does not let me down..

sexy little pin up number on the bottle.

poured into glass, much deeper copper color than expected, actually almost red in color. Nice head with a tan hue to it looks nice with the color.

Taste is malt forward, very dry with a strong bitter finish. Sort of a soapy finish though. The beer looks and smells great, just not that much depth in flavor for an IPA.

12oz brown bottle, sample from the brewery.

Good two fingers of head on top of a deep red hued brew. A lot darker than expected. Spicy piney hop nose with hints of caramel and toasted bread. Chewy body with a piney hop oil character that slowly leads to a soft pulling hop bitterness and barely balances against this semi-thick caramel malt flavor. The finish even ends up malty, not sure why the IPA term is used here ... they should have made their cheesy sexist marketing a redhead and simply called it a hoppy Red Ale. Good drinking bit gets dinged on the whole brewer's intention and such.

Smell: A lot of floral notes, more than a usual IP.
Taste: Really hoppy and bitter, even though it is only 45% IBU. The alcohol come out somewhat, making you know that it has a higher than normal alcohol level. Some note of citrus, but mostly only hoppiness.
Feel: Light-medium body. Strong hop aftertaste. Very dry.
Overall: A good beer, but not up there yet with the best.

Dark amber in color, but with minimal malt taste. Pretty much just grassy hops, with not much else in the way of flavor. Pretty one noted and definitely not what you would expect by looking at it.

Bottled 05/22/15.

Not too bad but very malt forward. Looks like a typical IPA but the flavor and feel was dominated by a bready malt. Not quite what i'm looking for in an IPA.

Foamy lingering head laced with brown flakes and the beer itself is loaded with particulate matter making it look opaque. Smells skunked. Syrupy feeling. Bitter hops with no real flavor except some slight citrus tones over a bit of sweetness.
In a market full of good IPA's this just doesn't cut it.

12oz bottle with no freshness date.

Nice color. Orange honey with a nice fluffy head. Smells stale, slightly like old plumbing. Piney with some tropical fruit. Taste watery with small bursts of bitter hops. Doesn't really have a good mouthfeel, slightly sweet finish.

The nose and taste really are not very pleasant. Seems like every brewery has to make a IPA now days to survive. This one really needs some work.

I really enjoyed this brew. It was subtle and full of citrus, piney flavors. It wasn't super resinous or heavy and the mouthfeel was soft and pillowy much like some of the New England beers I admire. Being a huge Nelson fan I was naturally drawn to this beer; however, I didn't get the Nelson kick I was seeking out that beers like Kiwi Rising provide. Enjoyable, fresh IPA- I'll have it again.
