look: 4 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 4 | overall: 3.5

Appearance: Small creamy beige head drops to a spotty cap and small collar in short order. Solid lacing. Relatively clear amber with some copper tones.

Smell: Caramel, a touch of raw honey, and a solid toasted malt base Sweet with some herbal and slightly earthy hops. Alcohol and a touch of soft hop spice. Pushes some toffee and biscuit. Nicely balanced for such a big beer. Solid fruity esters as well.

Taste: Caramel, toffee, biscuit, and shortbread cookie. Fruity esters in abundance along with a nice toasted element. Clean yeast profile. Sweet with a touch of honey in the back. Hops are mild, offering up some herbal and earthy notes. Raw grain and a grassy finish.

Mouthfeel: Slick almost oily with a medium body and moderate carbonation. Surprisingly clean finish.

Overall: Milenniummm...OK.

Lacks a little bit of complexity, but it's a good take on the style. Not remarkable, but worth drinking.

look: 3 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4 | feel: 4 | overall: 4

How served: 12oz screw cap bottle poured into a La Mère Noël glass.

Notes: Bottled on 02 01 08 & brewed and bottled at the old location in Ashburn, Virginia

A: The beer poured a murky deep copper color with an extremely thin white head which dissipated quickly laving no lacing on my glass.

N: The nose had notes of toffee, raisins, bread dough, honey, brandy and alcohol.

T: The taste was slightly sweet with toffee, caramel, honey and dried dark fruits. This was very sherry like with the warmth from the alcohol.

M: This beer has a medium to heavy body with a slick feel and a low carbonation level.

O: Overall this was a very enjoyable English Barleywine. There was some mild oxidation but did not distract from the overall experience and overall held up very well after 5 years.

look: 3.75 | smell: 4 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4 | overall: 4.25

A: This beer has a deep copper color with a thin/off-white head to it.

S: It smells of caramel with fruity esters, toasted grains and biscuit.

T: Sweet with butter, caramel and toffee flavors.

M: Heavy bodied with a syrup like texture. It has a warmness at the end as well.

O: I love how balanced and smooth this beer is. It's also easily drinkable, even with the alcohol content being so high. Definitely a beer you'd want to drink on a cold day. It's my favorite barleywine to date.
