I was really glad to see a new Imperial IPA on the list, co-brewed with a local hophead named Sean Donovan. I've always thought Great Adirondack brews a better craft beer than the Lake Placid Pub and Brewery. I find their beers more flavorful and it just seems like the brewers pay attention to and care for their small batch brews more than the Pub does. I am also sick of paying 18 dollars for a growler of the latest specialty strong beer at the Pub when I can get a fantastic imperial ale like this for 12 at Great Adirondack! But I encourage all visitors to visit both places and form your own opinion.

A - Pours a clear ruby amber with a one finger off white head. Head quickly dissipates but the lacing is very sticky.

S - HUGE whallop of grapefruit and citrus hops. Very sweet, earthy aspect after the grapefruit. I can't seem to detect any malt over the hop aroma overload.

T - Much like the nose. Immense grapefruit flavor in the beginning which dissipates into a boozy, dry, earthy hop finish. Sticky, sweet and quite bitter. For a hophead like me this is exactly what I'm after. Somewhat musky in the finish however and the alcohol is not very well hidden.

M - Surprisingly thin mouthfeel but very sticky on the lips. Very resinous. Could use a bit more carbonation but I find most DIPAs are often a little flat.

D - This is a whopper at 9.3% but I can't let the growler go flat. Somehow I must press on, but if you are visiting the restaurant one will do just fine and you'll want to have a snack. Packs a punch!

I was very pleasantly surprised to see a beer like this offered at Great Adirondack. Their Avalanche Ale is another strong IPA that was offered this year but this one is much stronger and almost TOO hoppy. It was a real treat in a land void of places to buy great beer (Upstate New York's north country)

reviewing from phone so excuse any typos please.... bright orange color with two fingers of off white head. this beer obviously took some hints from nugget nectar as the name seems to imply, but is still very much its own brew. hops are succulent in a way that brings nugget nectar to mind and complex as well. there is a substantial malt back but not so much as to interfere with all the hop complexity going on. a surprisingly wet and thirst quenching finish set this apart
from just about any double ipa i can think of. another impressive brew from this place. if only they could work on their food quality/pricing and get it on par with their beer...
