This beer smells like strawberry jam and tastes like freshly squeezed strawberry juice, overlaid with a delicate wild ale acidity. There isn't much funk, but there are some sour notes that make this rather splendid. My one complaint would be that it is a bit stickier than I'd like.

Often thought of as a delicate fruit, many attempts at using strawberries in beer yields a tart, sometimes astringent, juicy flavor and feel but is fairly nondescript. Not the ones by Urban Artifact; they cram pack each and every can of their wild ale with reckless amounts of the fruit to ensure that there's no missing out on the fruit here.

Pale mauve and set in a nearly opaque fog, Squeezebox builds a creamy eggshell froth that prerequisites a full and juicy scent of red berries, unmistakably strawberry. A light mustiness of zinfindale spice tickles the nose just as the taste of pastry, pie and macerated fruit has the early palate thinking pop tarts.

But then as the sweetness and breadiness begins to release, the juiciness of strawberries flood the middle palate. A complementing fruit medley of currant, cranberry, raspberry and tart cherry can be seen as part of the ale's natural fruitiness. Lemon, crabapple, gooseberry and red grape all take turns before the sheer sourness of the beer balances with strong wine-like acids, peppery woods and an overall must of weathered balsa.

Medium bodied from the creaminess of sourdough and pie crust maltiness, the beer's textures is rendered to a dry and peppery sourness from both the beer's brazen sourness and the vinous alcohol. A medium length afterglow of strawberry, rhubarb and rose wine resonate crisply with fading echoes of flavor.

Nice strawberry aroma, tart finish with high acidity. Had no idea this was 8.5%

12 oz can poured into a pint glass.

A: Murky pink vomit in color. Small fizzy looking head with a slight pink tint.

S: A little lactose and wheat smell and a lot of strawberry with that little bit of milk smell kinda hits you like strawberry ice cream.

T: Wow this is like a strawberry overload almost like you puréed strawberries and drank them.

M: Medium to fuller body

O: This is too lopsided for me, it doesn't have ennough other flavor than strawberry to do much for me. This is more of a cocktail drink to me. It's tasty, but compared to what?

Poured from a can. This year’s release is 8.5% abv. One of the muddiest, ugliest looking beers I’ve seen. A murky pink, with not even the slightest amount of light coming through. The aroma, flavor and feel on the other hand? Like a straight up strawberry shake. The amount of fresh strawberry flavor is insane. This is hands down the most well masked alcohol beer I’ve had. For 8.5% it drinks like juice. So smooth, with a perfect amount of tartness, balanced by the vanilla beans. An amazing fruit beer.

Big thanks to Urban Artifact for bringing this jewel with them to Friday Night Flights at Party Town in Florence last week. Strawberry sour ale poured from a growler into a Lost Abbey Teku. The pour is cloudy and reddish-orange in color with a thin crown of foam. I love the way this beer smells - just like strawberry jam.

The beer has a pleasantly tart flavor and a firm feel. Up front I get dry crackers with a hint of lemon candy and under-ripe melon, then lots of unsweetened strawberries. The finish is dry and citrusy with a lingering tart note of strawberries.

This is one of the most refreshing beers I have had in quite some time. It is exactly what I want in a sour beer. It's not an acid bomb that is sour simply for the sake of being sour. Instead, it has a dry refreshing tartness with enough fruit flavor to provide a natural, balancing sweetness. It's sour enough to be thirst-quenching and refreshing, but no more. This beer makes me want to go out and mow my lawn just so I can reward myself with some of this afterwards. I highly recommend it and hope I can get it again someday soon.

A very nice strawberry wild ale. More sweetness than many wild ales/sours, and a higher abv (7.1). The strawberry flavor is extreme (in a good way), they claim to use 3 lbs of fresh strawberries per gallon. A very fine, easy drinking wild ale.
