Light brown gold color, medium white foamy head. A light bodied ESB ale. Milder flavor, nice mild hop bitterness. Nice malts, slightly sweet. Kind of mild for a West Coast/American ESB, more in the English style. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter

For whatever reason, back in the 90s, we had more esb's on the shelf than we do now. I dunno, maybe esb was the introductory level ipa if you will.

This one came in somewhere between a dark gold/light amber and beige head (1/2") kind of color. Mild toffee/caramel nose. Hint of a plum like fruitiness.

Taste was bitter for my palate at the time, but nothing like what craft ipa's ibu wars became (or even the non 100+ibu ones). Still getting that hint of now the plum is morphing into pluot, again, its super mild and totally underneath the chalky mild toffee/tobacco note and stronger bitterness. Probably a little more carbonation than most esb, but they also tend to be a little more carbonated in the bottle setting. Might have a touch of black or chocolate malt beyond the pale/amber/crystal malt combo typically used.

This was I guess to compare to a contemporary example, this was like Honker's ale with less fruitiness, but darker malt usage.

Moderate hops and slightly sweet. Brewery seemed to strive for mildness, but came up a little short and bland.
