Presentation: Short 12oz brown bottle, colorful label. No freshness date. Poured into a pint glass as I prefer not to break out my weizen glasses until late spring.

Appearance: Prior to the yeast pour, clear amber with fairly low carbonation and very little head. After swirling in the yeast the beer took on the appearance of cloudy apricot juice. Carbonation seemed livelier and it finally retained some head.

Smell: Musty wet cardboard dominates with only a hint of the fruity character one expects from a hefe.

Taste: Upfront yeasty character of over-ripe banana. There's a certain funk lurking in the background reminding me of my last Cantillon. Slight sourness.

Mouthfeel: Soft, almost powdery due to the yeast. Difficult to detect much carbonation.

Drinkability: Meh. Average to the style, I suppose, if this rendition appeals to you.

Notes: I suspect that I may have gotten an old bottle, as the wet cardboard smell is a sure sign of oxidation. I'll update this review at some point in the future if another bottle is significantly different.

Pours a dark hazy orange with a creamy white head. Large chunks of sediment are evident in the beer.

Smells of citrus and white bread.

Taste comes through with some citrus and a bit of spice. Main taste is the usual good beer notes.

Mouth feel is a bit light with a crisp finish.

There really is not a lot of spice or citrus here. What was there was a very good and refreshing beer. I like this one quite a bit and again do not get the low ratings. This is a tasty beer and folks should give it a try.

On tap this is a very nice hefe. Not sure why it has such a low rating, perhaps it's worse in bottle as my review was based on tap. Clean and crisp, could be a little creamier on the mouthfeel, but overall not a bad beer at all.

Served on tap. Cloudy orange with marginal head. Taste is fruitier than expected with a hint of grain. Decent mouthfeel. Not a bad hefeweizen compared to other American manufacturers.

Better beer than rated. I give it 90/100. Tried it on tap at Danny K's in Anaheim California

On-tap at the Berkeley locale.

Poured a slightly hazy auburn-straw in color. A pillowy white head that leaves condensed lacing with pretty decent strength down the weizen's glass.

Powdered, musty wheat and grains. A few notes of lemon with a touch of sweetness. Rather odorless.

Toasted oats and wheat; bready in flavor. Clean tasting with just a hint of mustiness. A semi-sweet baked malt character adding to the biscuit-like wheat and grain flavors. A few touches of bright citric flavors, mainly lemon.

Light bodied; airy and just a bit gritty on the palate.

A pretty average hefeweizen. Nothing that stands out about this offering, but nothing that is really unpleasant either.

On tap at the brewery/restaurant.

Hazy yellow pour with murky waters ahead. Nice lacing.

Aroma consists of lemon and wheat.

Not a bad taste at all. Refreshing lemony/wheat taste. A little dab of lemon livens it up.

Being their "signature" beer, this isn't bad for a hot day. Lower alcohol enables multiples with ease. I remember trying this many, many years ago and not liking it. I think it has been tweaked a little through the years. Not the greatest but worth a try for hefe fans.

Paid $1.59 for a single...

The beer pours a hazy golden base, medium white head, minimal retention and no lacing on the glass. The smell is contains a hint of malt.

The taste is rather bland, very light Hefe with a touch of malt and fruit tones. Pretty nice on the palette but with low retention could be much smoother. It's drinkable if it were a light beer, but it isn't, not impressed given the style.

Final Thought: I wanted a Hefe and got a poor excuse for one. Thumbs down!

I will always remember this beer as my first Hefewiezen. Was the easiest to find for me being a domestic beer and I thoroughly enjoy it, hard to compare to imports but still my favorite domestic hefe. Fruitier taste than expected, good mouthfeel, cloudy appearance, very low hoppy-ness.

Appearance: Pours a cloudy golden color with a white head with somewhat larger bubbles than I expected; some lacing

Smell: A little vanilla and some citrus; not much banana or bubblegum

Taste: Vanilla and slightly nutty; a bit peppery with a with a smooth finish; somewhat unpleasant phenolic aftertaste, however

Mouthfeel: Light and creamy bodied; pretty decent carbonation

Drinkability: Pleasant enough, but somewhat dumbed down from other hefes I have tasted; much nicer out of the bottle than the sample I had on tap recently

On-tap with a slice of lemon.

A: Hazy orange with hints of yellow. Head is nonexistent and lacing is light. A ring around the top remains throughout the drink.

S: Mostly floral and citrusy. Hints of clove and hops.

T: Bready and floral. Tart (enhanced by the lemon) and light hops. A sweet beer.

M: On the lighter side of medium-bodied. Carbonation is satisfactory.

D: Decent. I don't really drink this anymore, but once in a while I'll get it on tap. This is the beer that helped me transition from macro to craft brews.

Pyramid Hefeweizen is a cloudy golden ale with large particles floating around in it. It has a thin white head that leaves a little lacing on the glass. It has a simple wheat aroma with a touch of lemon and herbs. It's light bodied and lively. The finish is pretty watery and it leaves the mouth a little silty. It's a solid wheat flavor. There are some esters detected in the taste, but it's mostly grain and lemon. I'm not getting the banana/clove I would expect. This is sort of a lackluster American Wheat Ale.

Nice head. This is a pretty beer, golden amber and nice and cloudy.

Strong, slightly sweet wheat-grain taste. Very hoppy, for a wheat beer. This really doesn?t taste much like a typical hefeweizen.

Fully carbonated body, but really nothing too special. Goes down smooth. Sweet, pleasant aftertaste.

Punching through a variety pack of Pyramid beers that I have left over from Thanksgiving...

appearance - yellow, cloudy/unfiltered, white head, some retention

smell - lemon/citrus/orange

taste - citrus notes and malt

mouthfeel - medium body and carbonation

overall - this isn't the pinnacle of a hef but it's an okay session beer when you're not trying for the best
