Available February and March…good St Patrick’s beer; very dark

Two Finger creamy tan head lasts until the end of the glass; good lacing

Tastes like a hoppy stout without all the malt; still very filling. flavors hard to pick up. Some tropical fruits with a bitter piney chewy resin aftertaste. 5 different hops dominated by Cascade. Dry hopped DIPA without a lot of alcohol (could carry more alcohol with all the hops in this one)

Very similar to Thunderhead in alcohol and IBU’s but dark. Probably Pyramid's best

Good pub beer; social sipper

a: 1 finger head that dissipates quickly into a thin layer.

s: Sweet bitterness with subtle yet consistent roasted malt notes.

t: Intense hops flavor right out of the gate. Does not linger, clears up so each drink is new and fresh. After initial bitterness, roasted flavors creep in with dark chocolate notes. Unique.

m: A middle weight mouthfeel. Crisp flavor, in-and-out - low residual flavor.

o: Overall nice, balanced flavors. I enjoy the uniqueness if flavors that typically is not associated with IPA's. Almost an American Stout flavor however leans more on the bitterness than the roasted grain.

12-ouncer into a tall glass

Pours a blackened amber with a few centimeters of browned head. The aroma prominently features bitter dark malts. A bit of resinous, woody hop balances caramel and smokiness. The taste is of coffee and some fruitiness. Apple-smoked toast. Mouthfeel is fresh for such a well-bodied brew. Pleasant aftertaste without any after-feel.

To make this beer pyramid took one part Snow Cap and one part Thunderhead and mixed them up real good. It turned out alright

Poured into 9oz pilsener glass. Poured a translucent reddish-black color with over 1/4 inch of tan head that had good retention and light lacing.

The aroma had a bit of roasty malt at the front, receding to some mild floral hops, that also had just a tinge of citrus. On the tongue though, the flavors were far less well-defined than the aroma had led me to expect. The beer was, in general, a bland blend of grains and relatively soft hops. There was a very unpleasant bitter finish on the very back of the tongue that lingered far, far too long to be enjoyable.

The body was solidly typical for the style, medium-ish. Drinkability was good, except for that harsh, bitter finish. Overall, I think it'll depend on how you like the style in general. I'm not particularly a fan, so I didn't really find much here to love. YMMV. Worth trying when you see it.

A very clear but dark ale, but I can't say anything about the foam, having slipped this one into the tumbler. Smell is hoppy, some alcohol phenol, and malt and sweet. A bit piney. A bit chemistry lab. Not much citrus. Taste is very good, malt sweetness coming in late, then dried fruit (maybe prune), caramel, and coffee run by fast. Mouthfeel is fast and dry and refreshing...no cloying sweetness or syrupy feeling here, and carbonation is moderately scrubbing. Bitter notes follow later and hold in a nice sustain of the hops. This was my first dark IPA, so with little to base this, I still liked it rather much and am inclined again to try the style.

Discord pours a deep ruby chestnut, and is topped with 1 inch of light beige head. Retention is decent, and lace clings spottily. Slight hints of chocolate and coffee mingle with an appetizing pine hop aroma. Dark flavors of dark chocolate and coffee blend seamlessly with pine resiny and a light citrus hop flavors. Slick and smooth, Discord is medium-light in body and moderate in carbonation.

Cheers!

Poured into a pint glass. Two fingers of head, dark brown color.

Strong pine smell with some grapefruit backup.

Balanced flavor at first, big pine tree and lemon in the middle, ends with a brunt malt. Curious and good.

Medium and sticky body, moderate carbonation.

A good DIPA.

A - Pours a dark black with a bit of ruby mixed in and a finger of frothy khaki colored head. The head fades down at a normal pace leaving behind some lacing.

S - Aroma is a mix of roasted caramel malts and citrus hops. There are also some earthy hops and a bit of chocolate.

T - Starts off with some roasted caramel and light chocolate malts with some citrus and orange hops. Through the middle, some earthy and pine hops come through with some bitterness and a bit more chocolate flavor. The finish is a mix of roasted caramel and citrus hops with a bit of bitterness.

M - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Feels smooth with a dry, roasted, and bitter finish.

D - Very drinkable. Nice dark IPA. A little bit malt forward, could have used a bit more hops.

A - A semi-agrgessive pour leads to a big tan and frothy head that leaves a ton of lace on the over-sized (like WAY oversized) wine glass that I used for this brew. Root beer brown with ruby highlights. Nice lookin' beer!

S - Malty caramel and chocolate notes with much less of a hop presence than I would have guessed. More malty and "stout-y" than the name suggests.

T - Tates more like a hoppy stout or porter than an IPA, but it is really good no matter what the style or name would imply. It is really piney on the back end though. Good stuff!

M - Big mouthfeel. Solid and chewy, with a creamy feeling after swallowing.

This is a uniquely fun beer that doesn't really fit in to any catgory, but that's totally ok with me. Good is good, and this is a goood beer!

Note: not really evaluating this one "to-style" since there isn't really a style for this beast. I am starting to see more dark IPAs on the market, but good beer is good beer, right?
