An interesting aftertaste behind a delightful smooth winter ale. Black and a overcast night and comforting as a warm fire.

I have been a regular Snow cap fan since the 90's. Because this is "super" Snow cap I will be comparing the two in this review.

22 oz bottle. No bottling info

Pours an attractive mahogany body with a tan head. Good retention. Lot's of lacing. Very Snow cap like...

Smell is somewhat prominent and malt forward (like Snow cap ) and it has that familiar Pyramid yeast smell. With a little hop scent that I hadn't detected in the regular Snowcap. But there is quite a bit more of a booze scent here. Giving it an astringent quality.

Taste is mainly alcohol. From the start to the bitter boozy finish. Where the regular snowcap masked the booze it is up front and in your face in this version.

The feel is less then the normally full and creamy feel of a regular Snow cap.

Overall; Other then the look this beer didn't have many qualities of the original version. It did have more alcohol but that seemed to detract from the nice winter warmer balance of the original.

This beer is part of Pyramid's special reserve series of beers that features re formulated versions of Pyramid's original beers in fancy painted on bottles. I can almost hear the Pyramid board meeting where phrases like, "high end product" and "perceived value" were bandied about... I will stick to the original.

Great winter warmer. Nice dark brown/ caramel color with a tan head. Taste is very satisfying for the style, big malt backbone hides the 8.7% abv. very well, and the hops finish the profile with a nice bite, which improves the drinkability greatly and gives it balance. I haven't had the non imperial version, but this is a great beer.

Mini-growler from the 16th St Albertsons... Pours chestnut brown with a nice khaki head.. Dry dark toast and nice cocoa essence.. hints of fruity dark cherries are in the background.. Good medium/light thick body.. Good bubble.. Light hints of EtOH.. Textbook piney hops with well rounded maltiness for a PNW Winter Warmer.

Is this really the "super" version? It is remarkably similar to the standard bottle version that I buy a couple every year...

Growler rom Albertsons. Dark brown pour with nice medium fluffy head. Heads lasts and leaves curtains of lacing. Aroma is dark malt, nuts and bit of prunes. Taste brings more malt, with the bitterness coming from the roast, not the hops. The malt masks the ABV well, not even catching any warmth. Smooth and silky with a small bite.

From tap to glass at the Pyramid Alehouse-Seattle
Appearance: dark amber reddish brown, minimal head, some lacing
Aroma: toasted grains
Taste: Bitter, Sweet, nice initial taste and follow through
Mouth feel: sticky
Overall: very good beer, ok to repeat, but not something to look forward to.
