Faubourg Lager celebrates the traditions of our brewery going back to 1907. Authentically and painstakingly crafted, it’s a full-flavored and exceptionally well-balanced brew made with just barley, hops, 100% pure filtered water, and yeast. Faubourg Lager is the neighborhood beer of New Orleans, an easy-drinking lager everyone can enjoy.

I think if you judge it for what it is, you will be happy. If you compare it to other similar ingredient lagers, it’s pretty good.

Had "Dixie" "Beer" (that's all the brewery or anyone ever called it until a couple of years ago) many times over last 40 years, most recently poured from 12-oz. bottle, no date (despite spot on label), gift from friend, into pilsner glass.

Contract-brewed after Katrina in 2005, first at Heiner Brau (then Covington Brewhouse, now closed), then at Joseph Huber, subsequently renamed Minhas (Wisconsin), and starting in June 2017 at Blues City (Memphis, Tennessee), until late 2019 or early 2020 when the brewery soon-to-be-formerly-known-as-Dixie started brewing at its new location in New Orleans East, it may now be a cleaner product than we traditionally understood if not appreciated.

Today, it looks like a classic light-gold pilsner, with 1 finger of near-white head that sticks around for a while, but doesn't leave any lace. (No one knows what it used to look like, as no one drank it in any format other than straight from the bottle.)

The aroma is moderately sweet malt, New Orleans funk and a little hop spice.

Although the start and finish are mostly dry and carbonated, with some heavy metals to start and dry malt in the middle, it's a far better beer than the original you-just-knew-the-water-was-bad-and-the-brewery-was-dirty Dixie we all knew and, urk, loved anyway.

A little malty & sourdoughy. Someone lemony finish. Pours with a thick head that quickly settles. No lacing. Watery feel, but not a watery taste. This is a good American lager. It is what Budweiser & Coors should have been. If his want a refreshing American Lager that tastes good, put down the Bud and try this.

Pours a very pale yellow with a very thin white head. Faint smell of adjuncts and very slight lemon. Hits the tongue with a carbonated Watery sweetness. Very slight hops typical of an American adjunct lager. Reminds me of Old Milwaukee. Way better than Budweiser. This is one of the better AAL’s I have had. A nice AAL for a hot summer day. But keep in mind that this is in no way a premium craft beer.

It's an American Lager but it is much better than Bud and Miller. Coors Banquet is a different story. I like both but the Dixie edges ahead. It's light but not too light. I doesn't have any "off" or "foo" flavors. It's an everyday lager. I like it when I chill, when it's chilled. Unlike with most American Lagers, the flavor remains as the beer warms. That's really all. It's an easy drinker and one I go to for American Lagers.

My imagination maybe, but it taste better from a bottle than it does from the can.

BOTTLE nabbed as part of a sixer at a Whole Paycheck in New Orleans. Figured I'd give this a review since this is from the Memphis, TN facility before operations switch back to New Orleans with the brewery reopening this month and the beer has the potential to change.

"Slow brewed lager." "Slowly aged and brewed with crystal clear water, genuine barley malt, choice hops, select grains and pure yeast."4.6% ABV.

Has caramel undertones beyond its typical 6-row barley backbone. Crisp with hints of grassy hop character. Malt extract/malt syrup is dominant in this and it has a thicker mouthfeel than most budget American lagers but it kind of works in tandem with the crispness of its texture and its deliberately high carbonation. Not as grainy as I'd like. Finishes a bit grassy with a malty aftertaste.

On the sweeter side for a lager, but it isn't thin or watery like many budget lagers either. Not a beer I'd buy regularly, but $6.99 a sixer ain't a terrible price and it's a drinkable brew fit for pairing with pizza or spicy food. We've all had worse.
