Notes: Batch 4 of our good friend Joseph Abruzzo Jr. namesake Bourbon Barrel Imperial stout. This is by far the best batch yet. We scaled the recipe for our production system and dialed in the abv to just above 14%. Aged in half rye/half bourbon barrels. This batch has higher viscosity. As it warms, brownie batter and warming vanilla bourbon notes come through.

16oz can. Pours black with a two finger light tan head which leave a decent amount of lacing.

Nose is sweet, dark fruits (fig, raisins) vanilla , coffee, dark malts. caramel, fine whiskey. Rich and complex. Nice!!

Mouth is Dark chocolate, dark fruits, sweet and bitter in proper proportion, fine whiskey finish which lingers. Mild carbonation.

Not as thick on the mouth as I expected. Very drinkable but at 14% watch out!!!

Great brewery!!!

Decanted from a 16 oz (473 ml) bottle into a conical pint glass; 2019 vintage.
A: Pours a very dark brown to black with a one finger, dark tan head that clears to a rim with little or no lacing.
S: Aromas of whiskey/bourbon, milk chocolate, molasses, vanilla, and pumpernickel.
T: Sweet. Flavors follow the nose with a touch of orange citrus (almost as if zest were in the mix) and quite a bit of booziness. Bitterness present but not nearly enough to balance against the sweetness or flavors.
F: Full bodied with light to moderate carbonation.
O: The whiskey barrel aging definitely added an additional dimension here, maybe a bit too much. Definitely was worth a try.
