Good brown beer but pours nearly black so takes away from the brown label. Taste is like a malty, chocolatey nutty ale but no nuts or chocolate are in the ingredients. But had this beer in Yosemite waiting for the road to clear and hit the spot for the moment. But should've had it the night before but mammoth brewery closed hour early and couldn't enjoy at brewery. So shame on the brewery for closing early.

Thanks to Morgan for this one!

A: Pours a deep brown color with a nice 1.5 finger off-white head. Nice retention leaving behind a pretty thick cap on top. Nice lacing.

A: Some toffee and caramel, roast malt and nuts. There is a little bit of chocolate as well.

T: Mostly roasted malt with some cocoa.Very light nutty flavor, much lighter than the aroma led on. Some faint piney hops as well.

M: Light to medium bodied, a little thinner than most porters.

O: A solid beer, hard to say if it is a kicked up brown or a porter, but either way it was good.

I’m really impressed with this beer. I’m not a big nut brown beer fan because they seem to lack any distinctive characteristics. Basically it’s a boring beer style. This beer is one on the exceptions for me. It starts off with a darker almost porter like color and foam. The smell is filled with lots of malt, coffee and chocolate flavors. It taste very good, again it’s almost a chocolate porter with a little bitterness at the end. A great beer once the leaves start to fall and the television is filled with college football.

On draft at Gastropub 775 in Reno, NV on July 26 2011.

Pours a deep mahogany color with a rich tan head,

Smells strongly of coffee beans and sweetness. Massive aroma.

Taste essentially as it smells, or mild slightly sweetened coffee beans. A little too coffee-like. Obviously quite nutty.

Not bitter or too drying; not a session beer, good for coffee lovers.

A: Mahogany color with a big sandy colored head.

S: A pretty big roasted malt aroma along with some nice nuttiness.

T: I picked up some chocolate, hazelnut and coffee. The mouthfeel was a little bit thin for me. This wasn't the best brow I've ever had, but I definitely enjoyed it. Worth a try.

Dark brown with white foam.

Light roast coffee.

Blind I would've guessed a touch of lactose. Almost no bite, not much sticks out. Touch of cocoa powder, roasted malt. Beer without flaws but nothing particularly exciting.

Pretty smooth.

Thanks to my neighbor Andrew for picking this up for me on a swing through California.

This pours medium deep brown with a big eggshell head rising and falling and leaving some lace. On the nose there is a huge nut component to go along with some chocolate and a bit of pine and caramel. I'm not sure I've had a nuttier nut brown. They're a little too far forward for my tastes, and I wish there was more surrounding them. In the mouth the chocolate is a little more assertive, but it's still a nut show. The chocolate and hops combine for a two-faced bitterness. The body is medium, exactly as expected given the style and abv.

Overall, this is a decent if unbalanced brew. A little tweaking and this would be better for me.

A: pours a deep brown, nearly black with a little bit of light transmission with a finger of off white head
S: smells of chocolate and a little coffee
T: cocoa powdery chocolate with some nice coffee notes and a bit of nuttyness. Nutty aftertaste with a bit of hop bitterness in the finish
M: medium body with soft to medium carbonation
O: A nice and tasty beer with good flavors

12 fl oz brown glass bottle with standard pressure cap served into a hefeweissbier glass in low altitude Los Angeles, California. Reviewed live.

A: Pours a four finger head of nice tan colour, lovely cream lacing, great thickness, and good retention. Colour is a solid black.

Sm: Cream, caramel, and very light roast. I don't detect any nuts, which is surprising. A fairly strong aroma.

T: Nuts, cream, heavy caramel, and light roast. Sort of an English brown ale meets a tame rauchbier. Simple but agreeable. Well built and well balanced.

Mf: Smooth and wet, and nicely thick. Suits the flavours generally.

Dr: Very drinkable for a brown ale, but surprisingly devoid of nutty notes. I'd like to try it on draught. As is, it's not horribly impressive. Where's the complexity?
