Epic IPAEpic IPA
Notes: Fearless and bold, our Epic IPA earns its name vanquishing hops at a rate of no less than two pounds per barrel. And yet, this heroic outlaw still achieves a noble balance of clean bitterness, smooth malt, and citrusy hops, making it the perfect sidekick for your next wilderness tale.

Mmm: Not for the feeble-hearted, Epic IPA charges valiantly at your taste buds. Two pounds of Horizon, Citra, and Amarillo hops gave their lives for the greater good in each barrel of this gallantly balanced American IPA.

Lightly hazy, golden colour with a little champagne carbonation, and 4 fingers of white, rocky head.

Smells of pine, oranges, children's aspirin, burnt sugar and pineapple.

Tastes fairly sweet with hints of creme brulee, pineapple, pine and a dull but pleasant bitterness on the finish.

Medium, syrupy body with moderate to low carbonation.

I got this in Redding where I am drinking it March 5th, 2019. Decent, but hey.

Epic IPA (enjoyed on 10/18/16)
Poured on draft into pint glass.
A: Pours a dark amber with 1/2 inch light tan head. (3.75)
S: Pine and citrus hops with moderate honeyed caramel malt. (3.5)
T: Soft pine and citrus (orange with a hint of grapefruit) hops with honey caramel malt. (3.75)
M: Light body. Sweet (malt) and astringent (hops). (3.25)
D: Fairly strong in the malt department for style. Nice drinking otherwise...especially on tap after a hike in Yosemite. (3.5)

Amber with a white head, smells of grapefruit and pine. Taste definitely lacks from the suggested aroma, and has a big caramelly backbone. Feels a little more full bodied than your typical IPA, but not unpleasant. This isn't a great IPA, but I tend to revisit it from time to time. Cheers!

Comes out almost amber in appearance, small 1/3" head on it. Aroma doesn't pop dry hop wise as much as their pale ale does.

Taste, ok this one hits more bitterness. More crystal malt. A lot of bitterness without a lot of soft lush green hoppy flavors. Mild sweetness of caramel. Mouthfeel thick of malt, caramel again.

I dunno, this just seems like for the most part a brewery that is only there for tourists, other than their barleywine, a lot of the stuff seems pedestrian for the most part. Dirty lines occasionally. But this in a can is nice at least.

Got a fresh 6 pack from a local store. This is a very solid IPA. I have been making my own beer for years now and primarily make IPAs. Smell was good, color was good, taste was very pleasing. It is more of a fruity IPA, not piny like a lot of IPA lovers like. Over a very good IPA. I definitely recommend this brew.

Pours an orange gold with a thin, frothy head. The nose has a surprisingly high amount of yeast notes for an ipa. There are strong piney, earthy hops. This is similar to torpedo from sierra nevada. The flavor is nice and boost up front with sappy and piney notes.

Appearance - orangish amber

Smell - bready, herbal, dank hops

Taste - Very herbal/earthy hops, carmel bready malts - definitely not a West Coast, more like East Coast IPA in my opinion. Spicy finish bitter finish

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied - a little too much carbonation for my tastes

Overall - solid IPA, nice bitterness and malt - not a "fruity" IPA at all so it is very unique tasting. I like more fruity/citrus IPAs so I can appreciate this but I probably won't buy it again. That being said it is definitely worth a try.

Appearance - Pours a deep amber with two fingers of cream coloured head.

Smell - citrus and leafy hops, bready caramalts, pine resin, hint of grapefruit peel, tropical fruits.

Taste - Starts off with the hops followed by the bready caramalts, hint of pine resin, hint of grapefruit peel, and tropical fruits.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Finishes with a lingering sweetness alongside a light bitterness from the hops.

Overall - An IPA with the elements in place. Not as hop forward as I would prefer but still a worthy IPA.

light, thin on the palate. smells sweet. very easy to drink. someone else said it is "full-bodied"? maybe this is a new recipe with a different label? I like it. it's not the best, but it goes down very nicely, very easily; and at 6.5%, why is that not a great beer?

I like my IPAs very hoppy with an above average bitterness on the finish. This beer is as subtle as it gets with the hops. The finish is smooth, which is not what I look for in an IPA (as stated). Very dark in color for an IPA. On first sip, I was thinking the bar poured me a Pale, but the subtle hops on the finish was enough to think otherwise. For IPAs, this one doesnt cut it, which is curious to me because the Brewery is great.

Poured from bottle. 6.5%. Pretty weak ipa. I drink ipa's pretty much exclusively. This is one of the poorest ones I've had in a long time. Do not recommend. Has a coffee undertone, almost like a brown. It's doody juice.

If you are a mountain guy and have done your outdoor time in the Mammoth area, you will understand this beer. They spice it up with the real no kidding local flora (flowers, herbs, shrubs). So if you've been hiking, mountain biking, climbing, backpacking, fishing, etc., out in the Mammoth area, you smell all that stuff.

Later on when you crack one open, or get a draught from a local joint (WAY AMAZING), it puts you right back in the woods. Very cool connection.

The color is great. The suds/head/foam are good, right up there with the best. It's got some kick (alcohol content). It's a fun beer to drink. 2 pints is good for me.

If you like IPA's and like the forest and all it's wonderful scents, you will get a kick out of this. If you are a strict IPA guy basically want pine tar and heavy alcohol, you won't like this very much.

Pretty basic IPA. The only real character that intrigues me is this slight tea taste. Which at the same time doesn't wow me. It lacks something, and the malt character wins the war over the hops.

A rather full bodied IPA, reddish in its malt profile but not sweet', just coppery and bigger. The hops come across a bit generic to me, with middle of the road bitterness and alphas. The mouthfeel is nice though, super frothy in texture grabbing up the Pune hop aspect. The carbonation is upbeat too, lightening a sturdy grainy base. I liked the other mammoth beers I had better than their IPA, but it's always nice to drink out of market beers and see what's out there. Probably too big to drink more than a few of, it would definitely get filling.

Handsome orange-tinged amber in the Crooked Line tulip. Coarse foam but lots of bubbles. Pleasantly sudsy in the mouth. This has the most interesting aroma. It's woody, yet musty, with poppy seed muffins.

Malty, French toast sort of flavor to start. A hint of perfume. Then the hops with a serious citrus taste. It's a little like very old, overripe grapefruit. Quite bitter, and it keeps on getting more in the aftertaste. Fairly light body with a silky texture.

This is oddly cloying for a hoppy beer. Still, it goes down easy enough until the bitterness catches up to you. From the 12 oz bottle purchased at Bine & Vine in San Diego.

Poured bomber into New Belgium globe

A-The pour is hazed orange copper with a smallish off white head. Had spotty lacing.

S-The aroma is faint floral hops along with cracker malt, grapefruit and resin.

T-The taste is a pleasant blend of the dry floral, softly bitter hops and the cracker toasted malt.

M-The mouthfeel is medium to light bodied with good carbonation and a clean dry softly bitter mineral finish.

O-Overall I was surprised by this beer with all the average reviews, nice aromas, taste, and mouthfeel. It would definitely ask for this one again.

Pours a clear orange with a foamy orange-tan head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Foamy rings of lace line the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, citrus fruit, and citrus zest aromas. Taste is much the same with grapefruit juice and citrus zest flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer with a tasty citrus forward hop presence that makes this one easy to drink.

A: Translucent copper orange with a white head.

S: Tropical fruit, mango, pineapple, passionfruit, papaya in the nose.

T: Pine comes out up front in the taste, followed by orange, papaya, pineapple, grapefruit peel and maybe a little mango. Some malt as well, but the hop character is much stronger.

M: Medium bodied and smoothish.

O: One of the best IPAs I've ever had. This is an amazing brewery from what I can tell. I'll have to visit it sometime.

Pouring a bit of the can into a snifter to get the look and smell, taste and feel are out of the can

Pours a cloudy orange and amber gold with a finger of foam. Transparency around 60%, moderate carbonation stemming from the center, alright lacing and retention. This would probably be more clear if it was fresher

Smells of strong citrus and earthy hops- a lot of floral pine with a touch of grapefruit, back up by a fairly strong and very sweet caramel malt. Again freshness would probably improve this aspect of the beer also, still pretty good

Taste is with the nose, a nice light hoppy flavor of pine and citrus balanced well against a sweet caramel malt and a touch of alcohol. Definitely not the most exciting, but pretty solid none the less.

Feel is a medium/light body with a wet finish. Not very bitter at all (44 ibu) and would probably make a good gateway ipa. Alcohol is concealed and finish is smooth. This stuff is pretty drinkable

Overall while 'epic' is a bit of an over statement of this beer, this stuff is pretty good especially on a warm summer day. I feel like it's a bit underscored, and the bros giving it a 68 further solidifies they're ineptness. Worth a try if available, ever since my shop stopped selling hop 'ottin this is my go to canned beer

A - poured to a slight head. medium amber that was crystal clear

S - noted to floral and citrus. pleasing aroma

T - the notes and floral I smelled turned into something with a funny aftertaste. It had to come from the hops cause it wasn't malty

M - good level of carbonation that kept beer fresh to finish

O - don't think I would buy again but only because of the intense IPA competition.

A: Great amber color. More red than orange, but still a dark amber. Head is the most persistent I've seen on any brew yet.

S: Woody, very hoppy and sour aroma. Smells like mahogany, acorns. Earthy.

T: Not terribly complicated. Total brute force of high grade hops--very generous amount. I wouldn't say it's the most refined IPA i've had but it is thick, flavorful and complete. This stuck could knock you down after a while--very intense flavors that stay together well.

M: Full mouth-feel, no corner cutting here. Sour element when you move it around. Pleasant.

O: A great IPA that prides itself on pummeling you with great quality hops. It's rich and intense with uncomplicated flavors. Finishes clean, great scents. Really stands out when it comes to quality and intensity of it's hops--one of the better IPAs I've had.

EDIT: This was my full review during a blind taste test.

Kinda like Raul's grade point average in junior high - 3.0 down the line. It's ok, but Raul also had a girlfriend that was "ok" and Raul kicked her to the curb.

So, if you want a beer that you'd drank, then kick to the curb, have at it.

Appearance- slight haze, light orange-copper hue, minimal head even with vigorous pour, some lacing down the glass

Smell- mild citrus and earthy tones for the hops, sweet maltiness but not too prominent

Taste- hop bitters on the tip and middle tongue, malt flavors are difficult to note and could be more pronounced to balance out the bitterness

Mouthfeel- noticeable hop oils, medium bodied, crisp finish with lingering tinge on the back of the mouth

Overall- A descent IPA I'd take on the trail for a quick refresher, not a super serious sit down and pick out the components brew

Appearance - Pours a hazy golden orange with an off-white, finger width head and fair retention. Lacing is spotty, with little stick.

Smell - Strong, deep caramel notes. Hints of floral hop character.

Taste - Follows the nose. Deep caramel malt character upfront and throughout. Hops are laid back, playing on floral vibes mid-taste, before a mild orange pith bitterness hits in the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel - Light to medium in body with moderate carbonation. Goes down smooth and easy. Quite quaffable.

Overall - A well-balanced IPA. Fits in closer to an APA by today's standards. I love the flavor. These deep caramel brews get me every time. Reminiscent of Mad River Steelhead DIPA, with less hop bite. Definitely a future buy... especially when Red Chair goes out of season!

It poured a half finger of head on a clear, amber colored body.
The aroma is nice with lemon and straw.

The texture is crisp with moderate carbonation.
A fine IPA and a really easy drinker, nothing special but good.
