12oz brown bottle, sample from the brewery.

Just enough lace to look like a beer, slightly hazed tawny hue. Spiced pie filling & honey in the nose. Palate is a bit more dry compared to what I smelled, spices kick in with more play from the ginger and allspice. Some gourd and toasted malt in the middle but ends up being a bit thin.

More flavor that most of the mainstream pumpkin ales, middle of the pack at best though.

12 oz bottle, poured into a pint glass

Appearance: Pours a pretty, hazy golden amber, that it speckled with orange highlights and a quarter of a finger of white head that quickly dissolved into a thin halo of foam that gripped the sides of the glass as well as formed wispy clouds that collected in the center of the top of the beer.

Aroma: Strong aroma of spices: all-spice, cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, brown sugar, caramel, molasses, pumpkins.

Taste: Wow! Very savory pumpkin flavor up front, followed by some slight sweetness and finished by tons of spices like all-spice, cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, brown sugar, caramel, molasses and slight hints of vanilla. All nicely balanced out by a malty backbone and slightly bittering hops. Delicious!

Mouthfeel: Medium, with some good carbonation to tickle the taste buds. With an ABV of 6.6%, there’s no presence of alcohol on the palate.

Overall: Jesus, this is an excellent beer! Tons of pumpkins and spices without being overly sweet, more like savory. Absolutely delicious! I’ll definitely have to add this to my pumpkin ale rotation!

A: Pours a slightly hazy orange/light brown with a small white head on top, not much retention at all, leaving a very thin cap around the edge. Not much lacing either.

S: Up front there is light pumpkin spice, some cinnamon and cloves but beneath that there a slight chemical aroma, it kind of reminds me of the smell of a brand new tennis ball.

T: Again, some faint pumpkin spice upfront, a little pumpkin pie spice, but then the flavor drops off.

M: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation, very dry finish.

O: An average fall beer, probably not something I will seek out again.

Fordham Brewing Co. "Spiced Harvest Ale"
12 fl. oz. brown glass bottle with illegible yellow ink-jet coding
$2.49 @ Total Wine & More, Cherry Hill, NJ

Notes via stream of consciousness: I can tell it's going to be cloudy as I'm pouring it, and yes, it's a very hazy medium amber in color with visible particles in suspension. The head is a two-finger thick cap of creamy off-white foam. I'll assume the haze is from the spices, probably added into the secondary. It's got a pumpkin pie spiciness to it but it's not overdone. Ahhh, the flavor is nice as well, and again, not overdone. There's enough lightly sweetish malt there that it's got some sweetness to it, you can't do a spiced beer without that, and it's nicely balanced. The malt is bready, and just lightly caramelish. I don't even notice the bitterness, and the spices linger a bit in the finish, mainly the cinnamon. I'm a little surprised it's not richer though at 6.5%.... ah, no, wait... I guess that makes sense, forget that. As usual cinnamon is the main spice that I get, followed by allspice. Let's see what else is in here... ginger, oh yes, I get some of that, just a little zippy note of it, and clove... yeah, I'm finding a light bit of that as well. As for the pumpkin, sorry, I'm not tasting it. So the head has fallen by now and there's some very nice lacing left behind. I guess I can forgive the haze and say that it's got a pretty good appearance. What about the mouthfeel? It's medium bodied and gently crisp and then smooth. That works pretty well too, otherwise the spicing might become more accentuated, although, as it stands I don't think that's a problem. Would I drink another one of these? Meh, I don't know, maybe. I certainly wouldn't be held back though because it's too much, but on the other hand there's not a whole lot there to inspire me to really want another one. Ahhh, in the end I guess I would. If I had a six-pack of this for Halloween night I might drink two or three and then save the rest for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Hell, I might drink one even without an occasion.

12 oz bottle poured into a pint glass.
Hazy light brown brew with nice yellowish head, a bit of lace.
Yummy spicy aroma, clove, cinnamon and allspice. Nice balance of maltiness, not sweet, carries the spicy flavor. No real detectable pumpkin for me, which is fine. A nice diversion if you are like spiced beer...fairly well done and drinkable, smooth mouthfeel.

Look: Light copper-orange: 1/2" of dissipating foam on top.

Nose: Definite spice and along with pumpkin-gourd in the nose.

Taste: Spice and the pumpkin come thru upfront along with a touch of sweetness; Not overwhelmingly so though. Not much bitterness to speak of.

Feel: Pretty non-descript. About what I'd expect for a lighter generic ale.

Overall: Actually not bad: Another that I think does a good job of being a solid ale that wraps some seasonal flavors into, without under or overwhelming the palate.

Poured from a brown 12 oz. bottle. Has a dark bronze color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of pumpkin, light spices. Taste is pumpkin, spices are present but not overpowering, nutmeg stands out. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a smooth and refreshing beer.

Courtesy of The CPJ!

Pours hazy orange with a thin white head that fades to a very slight haze. Pretty nice pumpkin, cinnamon, and allspice aromas. Fairly authentic, pumpkin-y without smelling like a Yankee Candle. Taste is similar well balanced between the spice and pumpkin, with more cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice. Very drinkable, not too sweet, and the pumpkin is again pretty nice. Medium-thin bodied, with good carbonation. Pretty nice Pumpkin beer, no issues here.

First sip reminded me of a fall candle. As I continued to drink, it began to taste like cinnamon candy. Interesting spices and not overpowering. Not fabulous, but worth a try.

S: nutmeg, cinnamon, caramel, honey

T: mild pumpkin with pumpkin pie spices... Allspice.

M: finish was smooth and mild. Refreshing good fall beer.
