The colour is deep brown-red (70 EBC), the liquid is clear. The finger thick head is pale brown, it sinks slowly into a thick uneven lid, leaving no lacing.

The smell is dry and roasted with just a hint of sour malt and spices. Chocolate and nuts. It reminds a lot of an English porter.

The taste is caramelised, somewhat spicy and bitter. Dried fruits and flowers, dark chocolate, tart cherries and a touch of salt liquorice. Light to medium body. The aftertaste is malty, but not very sweet. Clean bitter notes, some flowers and a hint of lemon peels. Chocolate and a crisp mild bitterness in the finish.

The liquid is mid-smooth, the carbonation mild to medium. The fresh bubbles are small.

I liked this beer, it is just like a blend of a München Dunkel and an English Porter.

Can. Very dark auburn. Initial frothy head settles to a thin wispy layer.
Heavy malt aroma. Some smoke and dark marmelade.
Tastes of toasted rye bread. Initial sweetness finished by a rather harsh ashen bitterness.
Zingy carbonation with a moderate body.
The roast bitter finish spoils this beer.

A 330ml can with a BB of Oct 2018. Acquired recently from Morrisons. The label calls it a holiday dark lager with notes of burned malt and citrus (?). Hopped with Saaz and Cascade.

A: Poured into a tulip. A very dark reddish-brown hue that appears almost black in the glass; low carbonation is revealed when held to the light. Produces a huge head of creamy tan foam that lasts for a while before slowly subsiding to a patchy surface layer. Nice lacing.

S: Aroma of dark malt with hints of roasted grain, mild fruitiness, a touch of molasses, earthy yeast and subtle leafiness. Not much in the way of aroma hops. Decent.

T: Tastes of dark malt with notes of roasted grain, subtle molasses, a hint of fruitiness, earthy yeast and faint stewed leaves. Slightly sweet, followed by a moderate malt-driven bitterness upon swallowing.

M: Mouthfeel is smooth, tingly and dry, with soft carbonation and decent body. Could be a shade thicker for the style. Aftertaste of roasted grain, subtle coffee, earthy yeast and faint stewed leaves.

O: Not too shabby - more character than the average lager (and better than some Christmas beers). Looks great, while the aroma and flavour are a reasonable blend of dark malt, earthy yeast and faint hops. Body is OK. The label mentions hop aroma that I'm not detecting in this beer, but that doesn't surprise me. A drinkable winter brew that is worth sampling.

A: The color is dark brown with rich red hues. The compact brown head is thick and full. Dissipation is rather slow and leaves nice lacings.

S: Not very strong-smelling. Roasted dark malts, somewhat sweet. Some mild bitterhops lures in the back. Besides that - not much else is going on.

T: A bit sour actually. Heavy roasted, almost a bit smoked, dark malts. Rather non-sweet. Bitter hops and some soy-sauce. Some christmasy spices, cardamom and cinamon, but mild.

M: A harsh bitterness lingers, quite offensive. Body is medium and smooth while carbonation is rather mild. But I can't get passed the harsh aftertaste...

O: Rather unbalanced. I'm not sure what they were going for, but I hope for their sake that it was a dark macrolager with a mild christmasy wibe.
