2016 Gold Medal Winner at GABF. A style that dates back to Germany in the 14th Century, this black, opaque lager is layered with malt complexity and full of rich, roasted coffee flavors. Similar to a Stout in many ways, but with a cleaner, more crisp finish.

16oz can from Tavour. Dark brown pour with a one finger beige head. Aroma is roasty malts with chocolate aspects. Taste brings a prominent bitterness up front, sweet roasty malts following, and more chocolate notes. Full bodied

Clear yet very dark brown body; excellent carbonation; thick, semi-creamy head, light tan color. Mild smell of roasted grain with light toffee tones. Nice flavors; mild chocolate and cocoa notes offset with a moderate bitterness. Medium body; smooth and rounded; silky.
A nicely crafted black lager, balanced and flavorful.
Pouring temperature: 42.4 ℉; canning info: n/a

Pored from a 16 oz can into a traditional dimpled mug.
The color is that of black coffee with a generous tan head that quickly dissipated.
The aroma is mostly of roasted hops.
Very much like a stout beer. Deep roasted maltiness with plenty of coffee and dark chocolate flavors.
Light and quite refreshing. A very clean, crisp finish.
Overall a very enjoyable quaff.
