Appearance: Very dark brown color, almost black but you can see it';s brown at the edges. Fairly generous beige head that dissipated fairly quickly.

Smell: Vanilla, acetic notes, tart cherries, faint roast malts, and moderate funk notes.

Taste: The tart cherry notes stand out initially, followed by vanilla, mild roast notes, citrus tones, mild acetic notes, and a touch of funk. Very faint tobacco notes are present in the finish which is fairly dry. The cherry and vanilla added to the base Tart of Darkness make their presence known.

Mouth-feel: Fairly light-bodied with a fair level of carbonation.

Overall: I love the base beer and I find the added cherries and vanilla a nice addition. The trade off from the base beer is the stout notes become sort of buried underneath the cherry and vanilla. Another good sour from the Bruery.

2014 in a snifter

A- Cloudy and dark brown in color. Not as dark as I'd expect. Thick oatmeal-colored head. 4.5

S- wow! Huge cherry flavors and the cherry skin and pulpiness. Some oud bruin like tartness blended with malt. 4.5

T- So much tart, cherry thickness. The finish is like biting an unripe cherry. Vanilla is faint but present and offers some sweetness. Malt flavors are faint, so I almost feel like I'm drinking a Kriek. 4.5

M- Huge pulpy tartness. Very kriek-like in that it's light and thinner bodied. It doesn't feel like a stout as it's so much lighter. 4.5

Excellent frieking beer. Feels like a kriek, bimut it's so damn good you don't care what style it is. It's just good. 4.5

750ml bottle poured into some tasters and shared with friends. Its a muddy brown looking brew with a khaki head that fades leaving spotty lace.

The smell is sour cherry with slight minerals suggestion, earth and almost acedic edge to it. The cherry character I find to be present in normal tart of darkness but its really exaggerated in this variant.

The taste includes lots of sour cherry flavor thats deep, pitted and earthy with a feel of over-rip character leading to a mineral feel that gets almost meaty. As previously stated lots of pitted cherry lasts into the aftertaste.

This is light bodied, moderately carbonated and a pleasant tank on their standard TOD bottling. The cherry was pronouncedbut vanilla seemed hidden. With no contrasting backbone, this one was a very quick drive to heartburn city. Im glad I shared it.

Pours a deep, deep brown, almost black. No head.

Smells of sour cherries, some blackberry. Crisp and clean, not overly funky.

Fruit from the nose, vanilla, some oak. Not a lot of malt or body, on the lighter side

Very dry, finely carbonated, causing the flavors to stick to the sides of the tongue and linger

750 ml bottle into a tulip

A: Pours black with some light coming through around edges, tan colored head quickly disappeared, good amount of carbonation, no lacing.

A: Sour, tart, funk, red grapes, cherries, vanilla, smells sweet.

T: Touch of musty funk, sourness, tartness, hit of sweet cherry goodness and vanilla, oak and leather in the finish, good balance of flavors and complexity, very nice.

M: Very dry finish, good amount of carbonation, medium bodied.

O: Very nice, a toss up between regular Tart of Darkness and this, both good, this has a cream soda touch to it due to the cherries and vanilla, sweeter than regular T of D, another winner from the Bruery.
