Style: American Wild Ale
Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.10%
Availability: Limited (brewed once)
Notes / Commercial Description:
Batch No. 1731 is a 100% Brettanomyces-fermented hoppy session ale created by homebrewer Kevin Osborne of Los Angeles. When we judged through all of our competition entries, his complex yet quaffable creation shouted WINNER! (as well as tropical!, funky! and dry!). It puts El Dorado, Mosaic and Chinook hops on a pedestal as much as one possibly could.

Copper colored and moderately hazy. There's an inch of rocky tan colored head. The aroma is comprised of citrus hops and tart Brettanomyces. I taste that nice blend of citrus hops with the tart Brett in the back of the palate. The mouth is very carbonated and bone dry.

2016 bottle (the only vintage, I think?) poured into a teku glass, and the foam builds quickly and forms a very large off white head that comes out of the top of the glass beautifully, and the head falls very slowly and leaves loads of lacing. The head gives you a huge aroma of funky Brett that comes off almost like mushrooms, and you also pick up on the very fruity hops. Taste follows almost exactly. Funk forward for sure, but the fruity and very, very floral hop character is still very present on the tongue and works beautifully with the funk. A nice dry finish, light body, and lively carbonation really pulls the beer together amazingly. Overall, this is an absolutely perfect beer for me. The flavors and aromas come together like a symphony. I almost don't understand the lower ratings/reviews, but I guess like many things, beers are very subjective.

Beautiful hazy deep orange glow, with about 3 fingers of creamy white head that slowly settled into a pillow.
Smells of leather, dusty earth, a bit of melon, and some citrus rind
Taste is funky and earthy...although not overwhelming or unpleasant. Very yeasty...it's a wild brett ale, but little to no sourness. I pick up some dry rubber notes...think an old bicycle tire or dirty basketball....tastes better than it sounds.
Nice and dry, thirst quenching. Just the right amount of acidity...not puckering, and the yeast lingers.
A wonderful farmhouse ale.

A: Poured into a Duvel tulip to a slightly hazed orange with a dense three finger head that retains well and leaves decent lacing.
S: Smells of barnyard, funk, citrus, and tropical fruits. Hints of tartness on the aroma as well.
T: Taste is funk and horseblanket with some citrus and tropical fruits, dry cracker maltyness as well with just a bit of lemony tartness. Swallow is tropical fruits and more citrus with some lingering barnyard funk.
M: This one is on the lighter side and borders on being watery. Carbonation is fairly active and just slightly prickly. The finish on this beer is nice and drying.
O: Overall just a really solid and well done brett beer with some nice hop notes. Definitely one to try and if I didn't have so much beer already I'd be kicking myself for only buying the one.

Latex, but not much. Can tell there is brett, some hops.

750mL bottle acquired through The Bruery's Society. Bottled 12/1/15. Served in my fancy fluted Hoarders stemware.
Pours a hazy burnt amber with a tall three finger cap of white froth. The head never fully settles, leaving a jagged layer of foam and huge, fluffy sheets of lace.
Aromas of orange, berries, construction paper, vegital funk, lemon and earth. Pretty nice.
Flavor follows the nose pretty well. Orange peel, pine, farmy funk, vague lemon, melon rind, old wood, berry seeds, flower stalks, subtle bread and a little earth. There is a whole lot of flavor that almost seems to simultaneously battle each other and work together to create an extremely drinkable brew.
Light body with lively carbonation. Aftertaste comprised of citrus zest, pine and an earthy, woodsy funk.
I'm much more a fan of sweet imperial beers than funky session beers but Batch No 1731 brings the funk in a delightfully crushable way.
