BEER INFO

Brewed by:

Style: American Wild Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.10%

Availability: Limited (brewed once)

Notes / Commercial Description:
Batch No. 1731 is a 100% Brettanomyces-fermented hoppy session ale created by homebrewer Kevin Osborne of Los Angeles. When we judged through all of our competition entries, his complex yet quaffable creation shouted WINNER! (as well as tropical!, funky! and dry!). It puts El Dorado, Mosaic and Chinook hops on a pedestal as much as one possibly could.

750ml bottle poured into a snifter. The brew appears a hazy golden color with a huge wave of white froth fills 3/4 of the glass. It takes several pours to get the glass half way filled with liquid instead of all head.

The aroma is really pleasantly bretty with leathery funk, tangy blue cheese/feta and rindy orange character. Its hoppy and funky and everything you would expect based on the description.

The taste however is just ughhh ugly. Its earthen and bitter with a bretty melon aftertaste with hints of plastic. Quite phenolic and not in a good way with a lingering bitterness that just makes it worse.

This is light in body eith effervescent carbonation. This is an absolute dud. Maybe it took too long for me to get this and drink it because its not good, not good at all.

Pours a hazy deep Amber orange color with three fingers plus of fluff off white head and high carbonation evident. Nose has a lot if Brett, taste has bitter hops, soap, and floral notes. Medium body and moderate carbonation.

2016 vintage

L - Pours an opaque orange/amber colored body with a frothy two finger eggshell colored head.

S - Funky brett notes, barnyard, belgian yeast, banana and light citrusfruits. The nose really reminds me of the "Elements of Funk" series.

T - Just straight up funk, leather and barnyard. Not overly complex or even tart. Belgian influence throughout.

F - On the full side of light bodied with high carbonation. It has a dry finish.

O - Simple, almost too simple. It's a good sipping beer, but nothing really keeps my interest here.
