Style: American Wild Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.10%

Availability: Limited (brewed once)

Notes / Commercial Description:
Batch No. 1731 is a 100% Brettanomyces-fermented hoppy session ale created by homebrewer Kevin Osborne of Los Angeles. When we judged through all of our competition entries, his complex yet quaffable creation shouted WINNER! (as well as tropical!, funky! and dry!). It puts El Dorado, Mosaic and Chinook hops on a pedestal as much as one possibly could.

Bottled 12/4/15.

Pours a murky honey orange with a foamy off-white head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Thick swaths of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of Brett, funk, barnyard, earth, tropical fruit, and grapefruit juice aromas. Taste is much the same with Brett, funk, barnyard, plastic, rubber, earth, and dirty tropical fruit flavors on the finish. There is a medium amount of bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and dry mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer with a really aggressive Brett presence that makes this one super funky and barnyard forward all around.

Split with JLindros.

A - Poured into a Kate the Great a crystal clear honey amber hue with a fat three finger head that fades to leave a thick blanket.

S - Aromas of tutti fruity, bubble gum, nice tropical notes, hidden on the finish is a plastic burnt rubber aroma.

T - Taste is similar to the nose, great bubblegum and tropical notes. Very nice until the finish. Loads of burnt rubber and plastic. Gah!

M - Mouthfeel is brightly carbonated, almost overly so.

O - Overall this beer was rather good, up until the finish of burnt rubber.

Pours a huge fluffy fizzy huge 2+ finger head fades at a med pace, nice sticky lacing, hazy honey orange color.

Nose big Brett funk, tons of earthy barnyard funk that almost seems like it was not supposed to be Brett, light sweet toasty malt, straw grain and a weird burnt rubber funk plastic thing.

Taste brings more barnyard Brett funk, earthy farmhouse cheesy funk, little straw toasted grains, mild phenols, a little plastic note but not a bad as the aroma, nice grassy floral hops, little spicy earthy hop, fair bitter. Finish dry bitter, little funk lingering, pretty clean other than bitterness.

Mouth is med bod, nice carb perhaps a bit too much.

Overall pretty nice other than the weird plastic burnt rubber thing from Brett probably getting too much oxygen.
