Notes / Commercial Description:
An invitation to join The Bruery Hoarders Society is the ultimate nod in how far you’ve come in your craft beer journey. Each year as a member, you get access to some of the most elusive and exclusive beers (such as this) and one-of-a-kind experiences, like going toe-to-toe with your peers in blending sessions exclusive to Hoarders.

This Cuvee is the icing on the cake - literally - as it took top honors in the Hoarders Cuvee blending tournament to be produced by The Bruery in 2016. Featuring a nearly equal blend of our most storied bourbon barrel-aged beers - Black Tuesday and our anniversary ale - with additions of raspberries, vanilla beans and cacao nibs, this beer was designed by Hoarders Society member, Paul Moore, and his teammate, Luis Barriga, to embody the ultimate cupcake. It’s the first fruited beer of its kind out of The Bruery, and a fitting release for the first installment in the newly minted Hoarders Cuvee series.

This beer is retired; no longer brewed.

750ml waxed and capped bottle into a Surly teku. Shared with schen9303.

Pours muddy with a big 'ole head. Nose is lightly tart with hints of chocolate, vanilla, caramel, molasses, tobacco, oak and booze. Deep and rich with great complexity. Beer opens chewy. Toffee, chocolate, raspberry, brown sugar and vanilla make this one (per usual) very sweet. The raspberry is present throughout the entire experience but its complemented by a roast from the nibs, then a sweetness from the brown sugar and molasses and finally, a creaminess at the finish from the vanilla. Body is heavy with moderate carbonation. Finishes messy with an aftertaste that burns and lingers.

Solid if a little overcarbed. In my opinion, beers of this magnitude are better off almost flat. Solid but I can't have more than 3 or 4 ounces of this monster. To be shared for sure.

Gold wax capped 750mL bottle acquired through The Bruery's Society. 2016 Edition, no specific bottling date but released 09/2016. Served in a Bruery snifter.

Pours a murky russet, resting essentially black in the glass, with two and a half fingers of fast-vanishing bubbly ecrue head. Within seconds the froth is gone, not to return.

Aromas of bourbon, raspberry jam, chocolate, toffee, vanilla and dark fruit. It really smells great.

Taste follows the nose. Boozey bourbon, raspberry, chocolate, cooked caramel, toffee, fruit skins, heavily roasted malt, Bruery yeast, vanilla bean and wet oak. Those raspberries make a wonderful flavor bridge between the imperial stout and old ale.

Full, coating feel with subdued carbonation. The aftertaste is reminiscent of chocolate covered, bourbon-soaked raspberries.

The Bruery's anniversary ales and Black Tuesday are both at the top of their respective styles. The raspberries in this Hoarders Cuvée really marry those two benchmarks. This was a delight to drink and I look forward to enjoying the rest of my modest stash.

Split with rudzud

Decent fizzy bubbly head, decent lacing, super murky dark brown

Nose a lot going on, raspberry, chocolate, cinnamon like spice cocoa, choc syrup, little vanilla, caramel, roasted char,

Taste sweet with big raspberry chocolate candy bar, cocoa, melted chocolate and cocoa syrup, little baking spice, maybe cinnamon again, touch of vanilla, warming tingly hot booze, like fresh Black Tuesday with raspberry jam. Bitter roasty finish

Mouth is heavy, thick syrup, huge burning alcohol, decent carb

Overall hard to get behind this one.

750ml bottle poured into a matching hoarders taster appears muddy brown in color with a quick fading khaki cap.

Nose is all raspberry fruited appeal upfront with caramelized sugars - vanilla and neutral booze filling out the back.

Taste has a surprising amount of raspberry flavor then solvent alcohol with supporting flavors akin to the anniversary series - caramel, vanilla and molasses mainly.

This is full bodied and modestly carbonated. I was honestly surprised by how much the raspberry shines in this. The vanilla is subtle but present - albeit the flavoring is no more vibrant than the same vanilla-like character the old ale has without any vanilla bean addition. I was not able to detect any of the listed cacao. Overall a good brew but it was hardly recognizable of having any black tuesday incorporated into it.

Split with JLindros.

A - Poured into a Kate the Great tulip a nice dark brown hue with a thin mocha head that fades to leave a thin halo.

S - Aromas of nice cocoa nibs and vanilla beans. The raspberry is really faint and subtle. No alcohol in the nose.

T - Taste is similar to the nose. Not much vanilla at all, loads of chocolate. There is, however, a ton of raspberry flavour. Massive jammy raspberry notes.

M - Mouthfeel is nicely carbonated bit thin, very sticky.

O - Overall this was a very solid beer from bruery. There was nice raspberry notes but uhh the end this was like a glass of black Tuesday that someone dropped some raspberry syrup in.

750ml bottle poured into Hoarders tulip

A- pours a deep brown color with a small foamy off-white head that reduces to a ring around the edge

S- initial aroma smells like a chocolate cupcake with raspberry icing. Sweet raspberry puree mixes with a blend of Black Tuesday and anniversary ale; chocolate, caramel, toffee, woody oak & bourbon. The addition of vanilla enhances that cake/icing aroma

T- big blast of raspberry up front, reminiscent of raspberry puree or raspberry jam. Mid-palate gives a mix of chocolate, caramel/toffee, black strap molasses, raisin & fig. The finish gives some oaky bourbon with plenty of vanilla on the linger, as well as more raspberry and some booze

M- medium body with low carbonation leads to a foamy mouthfeel that turns into a viscous, slightly warming finish. Alcohol is actually hidden pretty well, considering the ABV

O- raspberry is prominent throughout, which holds up to the strong base beer blend. The vanilla adds a nice addition as well, very good overall

750 into a perfect stout glass

bottle states 18.5% instead of the 18% listed here

looks pretty good, exactly like an anniversary beer, maybe a few shades darker, probably the bt mixed in?

wow the nose is crazy! i got a ton of raspberry upfront. very impressive, i get chocolate for sure. slight vanilla in the end. bourbon through out. i'm ready for it

flavor is Huge raspberry, it comes through better than i expected. bourbon soaked chocolate covered raspberries, completely. slight vanilla in the finish. can taste the bt and anny in this one, on the sweeter side, but dat raspberry tho

body is thick but on the thinner side of heavy. kinda wish it was a thicker and stickier

overall this beer is excellent! i know we wish for a vanilla bt but a fruited strong ale done right? i'll take it! best fruit in a stout/strong ale i've ever had.

edit: wow well as this warmed up the flavor goes through the roof! .25 added to the taste, really enjoying this second half of the bottle
