Notes / Commercial Description:
An invitation to join our Hoarders Society is the ultimate nod in how far you’ve come in your craft beer journey. Each year as a member, you get access to some of the most elusive and exclusive beers (such as this) and one-of-a-kind experiences, like going toe-to-toe with your peers in blending sessions exclusive to Hoarders.

This Cuvee is as dynamic as the members it competed against to gain top bragging rights in the Hoarders Cuvee blending tournament and be produced by Bruery Terreux in 2016. Designed by Hoarders Society members Kyle Landig, Paul Moore, Cory Townsend and Andy Williams, this Cuvee begins with one of the cornerstones of Bruery Terreux – our oak-aged sour blonde ale. We then premier a new ingredient in a packaged product for the first time in our company’s history: honey. Together with coconut, these two catapult the rich, barrel character found in our bourbon barrel-aged wheatwine ale, which is the second beer in the blend. Hibiscus, rose hips and white pepper balance the oaky, sweet and sour profile, adding a degree of spice and herbal characteristics to the dynamic blend.

Gold wax capped 750mL bottle acquired through The Bruery's Society. 2016 vintage. Served in a Bruery snifter.

Pours a murky burnt orange with a finger and a half ecrue head. Decent retention, fluffy collar, several splotches of lace.

The initial whiff of sour wheat reminds me of the tragic batch of White Chocolate. Funky oak, must, honey, vanilla and a vaguely herbal note.

The flavor opens with a potent lactic blast of sour. Tart lemons, barrel funk, spoiled honey wheat, faint bourbony vanilla, a little pepper, old bread and an occasional nip of booze.

Smooth, full, pillowy feel with moderately soft carbonation. There aftertaste is like sour honey wheat bread pudding with a mildly earthy bourbon glaze.

The Hoarders bring an interesting sour blend to this cuvée release. One of the better sour melanges I've had from The Bruery.

Nice sour beer. Sour is not overbearing. Raspberry comes through nicely. One of the better sours I've had.

750ml waxed bottle poured into a snifter appears a reddish hued copper color with an off-white head that fades leaving spotty lace.

This smells sweet with vanilla, slightly fruity with a floral accent, coconut and a bacterial funk.

It tastes tart with vanilla backing, solid booze inclusion before a very floral thing takes over mid-palate and into the finish.

This is medium in body with modest carbonation. It has got a lot going on but ultimately is not a beer I enjoyed. I felt like I could taste the individual adjuncts but collevtive this was not enjoyable. It actually made me think that this was likely a bad/infected batch of white oak sap/white chocolate that they tried to "fix" by adding other junk to it. I like the Bruery but this ended up being a drainpour for most of us who tried it.

750ml waxed and capped bottle into a Surly teku.

Nose is acetone, brown sugar, molasses, vinegar and a sugary creaminess from the coconut. Weird. Unpleasant. Beer opens tart yet creamy. Hints of vanilla, oak, leather and white vinegar. Real sour and acidic through the middle with a pepperiness at the end. A touch of stone fruit too to round out the tartness. Body is medium with low carbonation. Slick and oily in the mouth and goes down hot, puckering and acidic. Dry finish.

A cuvee is a blend of multiple beers or multiple components of beer. And when your parts are mediocre, more often than not, the combination of those parts will be mediocre also. For as well as the Bruery does imperial stouts, that's how bad their wild ales are. This is par for the course for them.
