This is a rosé - and a gose - by any other name. Goses are Red is a stylish match of a funky, crisp and tart gose with the soft sweetness of a rosé wine. The refreshing wheat-based beer begins with some of the qualities you’d expect from a gose, including coriander spicing and a light saltiness to complement the tartness imparted by our house cultures. But the story doesn’t end there - it builds in complexity, thanks to time spent in an oak foeder and the addition of grapes, which impart a refreshing rosé character and color. It’s a charming interpretation that says all the right things, but it’s not as sweet as you.

Short lived head, no lacing, rose/amber color, very clear. Lively but not excessive carbonation. The Syrah grapes definitely come through. I would not have guessed that this was wheat-based. Very refreshing. This could be a great brunch beer or poolside with appetizers.

Slightly grape-y and strawberry aroma. Tart but not overly tart, and I can appreciate the subtly saltiness. Finishes with rose notes. Lovely and refreshing on a hot day. Paired nicely with a light summer meal of seared tuna and arugula.

Very pretty pinkish-burnt orange color with a generous off white head. Weak vinegar aroma with some sweet fermented grain, Tart, with a sweeter finish& some salt. Flavor is fruity, tart apples, cherries & grapes, mild funk of fermented grain, oak flavors so mild that I probably wouldn’t have noticed if it wasn’t in the description. Nice feel with good carbonation. Very enjoyable.

Underrated beer, I think. At over a year old, the one I’m drinking still is tart, funky, and salty. It’s got everything I want in the style. Only complaint might be it’s not funky enough, but that’s not the worst thing in the world. The Syrah is present, but perhaps that has faded a bit with age, as I think it could be a bit fruitier. Overall, I want a gose that has character, depth, and is refreshing, and I think this one ticks off those boxes.

Deep amber with a cool reddish hue. This is a fairly tart gose, supported by wheat bite and a bit of funk in the aftertaste. Also, a very subtle oak taste from the foeder aging. But primarily, it's the grapes--in this case Syrah--that impart the bulk of a very significant flavor profile. Part rose, part gose.

16 fl oz can:
5.6% ABV. "Foeder-aged gose-style ale with syrah grapes."
Adicic, slightly tangy, and very well balanced with just the right amount of subtle red grape creeping in. It presents as a bit berry-redolent in terms of fruit character, not parsing quite as pungent as grape flavour tends to. The salt presence is good for a gose but they could ramp it up a bit (and why not use a more interesting salt while they're at it?), but the Foeder/wood presence is lacklustre in my view. Lacks any overt oak, but I guess when I look for it I find some synergistic wine/oak scintillae.

Bruery Terreux "Goses Are Red"
16 fl. oz. can coded “B1445 130748 PKG1/18/21”.
$4 @ Kunda Beverage, King of Prussia, PA
Notes: Lightly hazy pinkish amber beneath a short head of white. Limited head retention and lacing but that's to be expected of a sour beer. Limited aroma. The taste is kind of like a white zinfandel with raspberry. Tart but not puckering. Lightly salty. Dry and acidic finish with a short lingering fruitiness. Light-medium in body with a gently crisp carbonation. Easy drinking and refreshing.

Lovely pink color. Smell is sour, slightly funky, and a hint of cherry. In the mouth it’s quite sour- mouth puckering territory. Pie cherries and raspberry, with grapes and strawberry bringing a slight sweetness, complimented by a bit of salt, and finishing with oak and a hint of coriander. Finish is dry. This is really, really pleasant— the sweetness and saltiness compliment the tartness wonderfully.

Glass: Monks House of Ale 12-oz. tulip
Price: $3.79
From: Windmill Farms in Del Cerro (San Diego), Calif.
Purchased: Jan. 28, 2021
Consumed: Feb. 18, 2021
Misc.: Canned on Jan. 13, 2021
Grabbed a can of this and a host of others on a recent trip to Windmill Farms. The Bruery’s website called it “This is a rosé - and a gose - by any other name. Poured a deep amber clear color with one finger of fizzy off-white head which dissipated quickly. Plenty of bubbles coming up along the sides of the glass. Bad watery lacing. Below average retention. (Sight - 3.00)
Smelled rose blossom, purple grape, dark cherry, light Syrah, tart raspberry, strawberry, Sweet Tart candy and lingering oak. Not as good out of the can but some similar qualities. (Smell - 4.25)
Tasted almost as good as the nose. In order got rose blossom, purple grape, dark cherry, light Syrah, lingering oak, tart raspberry, strawberry and Sweet Tarts. (Taste - 4.00)
Medium-to-light body. Oily texture. Average-to-lively carbonation. Long, oaky, tart finish. (Feel - 4.50)
Underrated this overall but I really liked it for what it was. Outstanding. (Overall - 4.00)
