To those who’ve tasted it, our barrel-aged Sour in the Rye ale is an instant classic. To those of you about to take a sip of this limited “POG juice” edition, get ready to be transported to the tropics. Passionfruit, orange and guava join forces for a refreshing, juicy and bright combination with the rye spice notes of the base beer, all while basking in careful balance with the honey, vanilla and woody character imparted from barrel-aging. Enjoy relaxing and sipping on this one with your friends, and think up a clever game or two with the bottlecap when you do.

A: Poured into a Duvel tulip to a golden orange beer which is topped by a dense and slightly rocky finger and a half of cream colored head which fades slowly to a collar around the edge of the glass with minimal lacing
S: Smells of juicy tropical fruit with passion fruit and guava along with a touch of orange, slight sourness and funky oak
T: Taste is passion fruit and guava with some orange zest, caramel sweetness, some oak, and some nice tartness. On the swallow there's more sourness, oaky vanilla, passionfruit and guava with some orange.
M: This beer has a body which sits at around a medium. It's slightly syrupy in feel with carbonation that's lightly effervescent while the beer has a drying finish due to the acidity.
O: Overall this is a really nice twist on a favorite. The additional fruit flavors turn this into a really nice warm weather beer which also complements the base beer well. Flavors, complexity and balance are all on point. I'd like to see this in the regular rotation.

Bottled 8/30/17 and consumed early August 2021. Beautiful color and exactly as described. Massive fruit flavor, perfect for a warm summer day, and finished with a subtle woody vanilla that mellows it out. Delicious!

Split with JLindros. 2017 vintage.

A - Poured into a Kate the Great tulip a slightly hazy copper hue with a thin white head that fades to halo.

S - Big aromas of tart sour rye, big guava and tart passion fruit. The citrus is quite nice and fruity. Really fragrant.

T - Taste is similar to the nose with nice tart passion fruit and guava. Ultra sour and tart with great citrus and tropical notes.

M - Mouthfeel is lightly carbonated, however, it's rather flemmy.

O - Overall this was a very solid wild ale with great fruit note. Love the tropical going on here.

Bottle: poured a hazy/cloudy bright orange color ale with a large foamy head with light retention and not much lacing. Aroma of strong tart notes with tons of fruit flavours such as orange and guava. Taste is a mix of strong tart notes with some light acid notes with loads of orange and guava notes. Body is full with good carbonation. Enjoyable even though is quite intense flavour-wise. It could have benefited form less aggressive sour notes.

2017, 750 poured to snifter

Pours red gold, small head falls immediately

Aroma is guava, rhubarb, and light oak

The crazy rhubarb note follows into the flavor, passionfruit and orange noticeable. Sharper oak and vanilla notes. Guava, grass and lime notes hiding out in the back.

Mouthfeel is perfect for a sour of this size, lively, astringent

I've had others in the series, this fruit mix is new to me, and seemed potentially odd. It is odd, in a good way. As it travels in temperature, the profile changes, and seems to have a sweet spot around 45 as the label recommends.

Really enjoy this for the unique tangyness that the passionfruit and guava provide. Not something I would want regularly, but a really fun beer and a great non-intuitive combination.
