This beer has caramelized malt on the nose with hints of ripe fruit. Mild on the palate with wellbalanced bitterness, hints of fruit, toasted bread, liquorice, coffee and caramel.

330ml bottles pours a dark brown with an enormous tan, pancake head. plenty of lacing. the nose is similar to the Agnus with it's yeasty qualities however, the Pater tends to have more citrus and raisiny sweetness in the nose. taste wise this beer has good complexity. a little more sweetness in this beer. still some champagne yeast flavours and a drying quality. counterbalanced nicely with sweetness of raisin and grape. earthiness. taste lingers well and leaves a dry/sweet finish on the tongue. very lively mouthfeel. crisp & pleasant. again, a beer that doesn't have a HUGE flavour profile but one that is solid in its complexity & balance. simply a rock solid beer that is a perfect example of an Abbey Brown/Dark. thumbs up.

This was easy drinking for sure, honestly kind of light. It has high ratings but I found it to be not as good as others. It was the cheapest dubbel bomber at the time and I understand why. It was just light, not bad at all but left me searching. It could easily have been a little too cold. Needs a revist

It's been like 10 minutes and the head is still hanging around. It's bottled conditioned so that explains why. Nose is plum, dates and fig. There's some rounded malt character, like roasted malt and pilsner. It's a lighter beer so it's actually quite easy drinking, nothing going to the head, really a nice beer for a day when you're maybe heading out in the evening but want something light.

Taste is largely of malt and what you'd call Belgian estery yeast. Some hints of perhaps clove, really reminiscent of what Ommegang's house yeast tastes like. Finish is dry, it's the complete opposite of the decadent super sweet malt bomb that was Primator's Doppelbock (which I had last week). Very pleasant drinking beer.

that’s a nice little dubbel that, i was but concerned off the nose that’d be too sweet but the flavours are bang on between black bread malt, oaky nutty flavours, a nice bit of caramel sweetness, some biscuity flavours there as well, bit of tobacco, spice, belgian yeast, banana, almost a vinous quality to it, light bitterness on the finish, light to medium bodied and high carbonation, a little bit more body would serious elevate this beer, but it’s quite nice all the same

Picked up a four-pack from TW-Greenville, SC 12-26-21 for $15.99. Best before 3-6-24; consumed 1-30-22.

Beer poured mahogany brown with a beautiful tan head that has some great hang time.

Nose has a definite vibe of yeasty esters that lean towards fermented grapes and dark fruits.

Taste follows the nose with a light but fair sized malt base that is nicely integrated with the fruity esters of the yeast that gives a distinct red wine flavor with notes of plum and cherry. Finishes balanced.

Mouthfeel is delightfully light as each sip dances across my palette.

Overall a wonderful beer! Can’t believe i never reviewed it but definitely recall having it with my brother at a Cardinals tailgate a few times.

Caramel brown appearance with a sparse beige head that recedes quickly to a collar, low retention, no lacing. Butterscotch, fig, raisin, bread. Light to medium body, light carbonation. A little aged but still great!

Very dark mahogany colour with three fingers of puffy tan head, carbonated like a champagne, typical of a Belgian beer. On the nose is spice, spice, and more spice, and the taste is the same, plus a bit of orange peel. Pepper, coriander, and nutmeg, are the dominant flavours. In fact, there's not much else. A bit of roasted malt at first, a suggestion of toffee and chocolate, but this is quickly overshadowed by the spice. This is hands down the spiciest beer I've ever had. There is an interesting tension between and underlying silky smoothness and the spiciness, but the spice wins out and makes the mouhtfeel and finish end up on the dry side. Overall an interesting beer to be sure, if not supremely drinkable.

Welcome to 2021, pours a chestnut brown colour with a large lasting beige head. Notes of caramel, dark malt, dry fruits and burned sugar. First sip follows above flavours with hints of sour pumpernickel. Prickly carbonation, finishes dry.

330ml bottle from Beers of Europe (£2.79)
Very dark mahogany, bordering on black with a thick, foamy head that's beige with outstanding retention. Sweet & slightly malty, some alcohol but plenty of caramel & toffee but it's balanced too. The taste is similar, there's maybe a touch more alcohol showing but it's sweet & sticky with lots of caramel again & some nice bread malts. It's a medium bodied, smooth & softly carbonated beer that's boozy but still seemed easy to drink.
