Dark brown, ruby red reflections. Two-finger tan head. Pretty thick lacing. Looks great.

Smells of caramel, bread, cloves, banana. Coffee. Not too aggressively sweet like a lot of belgians are.

Tastes bready, kinda roasty. A bit fruity too (apple and banana). Like the smell, the light (for the style) sweetness is a surprise, to be sure, but a welcome one. Distinct bitterness too, which probably helps reduce the sweet factor. Slightly peppery and spicy.

Well carbonated, medium body. Kinda prickly actually.

Very nice, me likey. Not a style I'm usually overly fond of, but this is really great.

330 ml bottle, Lidl, Bristol - Pours dark brown with a medium tanned foamy head. Nice lacing. Medium carbonation. Aroma - yeasty/bready notes, ripe fruit -apples overtones. Taste - Slightly sweet, yeasty notes, ripe fruits, light malt middle, light bitter finish. Nice easy drinking Belgian brown ale.

I saw this beer for sale at a local liquor store, and picked up a couple of bottles. (one to enjoy, and one to review) This is called Abbey Brown Ale, but they also call it a Pater beer. Beer has the same alcohol content as their tripel, which was surprising to me.

Smell is a faint smell of apples mostly. Taste consists of malt, apple, brown sugar, and bread. Feel is very smooth, medium carbonation, and a somewhat light feel. There is little aftertaste, maybe a malty aftertaste, but very pleasant-- and beer is not dry at all, without any alcohol detected. Beer is tasty and refreshing.

I actually enjoyed this beer, and found it to be better than their Tripel offering, much to my surprise. I enjoy Tripel beers in general, but this is considered a Dubbel-- and the first I have had of the Dubbel-- looks like I will seek out more beers of this kind. Now I just wish they sold this in more places around where I live, but at least I do know where to find it!

Pours clear . Chestnut brown with ruby highlights and softer brown hues. Tan head of Belgian style foam that dwindles and leaves plenty of lace to adorn the glass as you drink.

The nose is very fruity . Vibrant with plum and then showing a bit of cool sugar, spice and earth. As the foam falls the nose settles in with sweet raisin and dried dates.

Taste is festive with molasses and earth. Soft brown sugar and sweet dried fruit. A touch of bitterness leaves it to linger sweetly . Crisp finish with plentiful bubbles. It's the alcohol not the hops that comes to bitter the finish in this beer and when it does it shows you a light warmth after the swallow. Dries as it lingers with plenty of soft rich malt and a light plum like tartness. Light soft caramel and light cocoa as it warms.

What a beautiful dubbel. Complex malt with vibrant festive flavors and perfect execution.

Pours dark brown with floaters & sediment, producing a nice 2 finger, fluffy, mostly tightly bubbled, light tan, moderately lasting head that leaves only a little lace. Aroma is Belgium yeast, dark caramel malt, sour dark fruits & a hint of smoke & mustiness. Taste is very malty: roast & dark malt. Belgian yeatiness & light funk with subdued dark fruity vinuous esters, some brown sugar & hints of chocolate. Hop presence is minimal as is common with most Belgians.

Pours an opaque brown and dark mahogany color with a large foam head that quickly recedes. It leaves a collar and thin lacing.
The aroma is my favorite thing about it. Sweet cacao and chocolate malts hit the nose. This is followed by dark fruit, mainly alcohol soaked raisins, and dark caramel. Dark candi sugar also adds to the sweetness.
The taste is a bit drier as compared to the aroma, but there is still an ever present coating of dark fruit sweetness and dark malts. Sweet, silky and creamy cocoa like finish. Fluffy and velvety in the mouth. The carbonation is active and provides a cola like tingle. The spices balance things out as well as the slightest hint of hops. The alcohol is there but light and well masked. Medium bodied and on the light side for a Dubbel. Easy to drink; is there such a thing as session Dubbel? Solid overall.

Dark brown pour with slight brown top. No lacing. Aromas of sweet malt and slight astringency. Flavor is somewhat watery, but pleasant. Lots of malt and some hop balance. Finish is similar. Very drinkable.

This beer pours a very dark coffee color with a tan head, two finger-widths high. Tons of lacing with this beer.

The beer presents a very complex bouquet with aromas of rich malt, chocolate, raisin, and oak.

The initial taste presents the rich malty flavor, and then it immediately warms to present the hints of chocolate and then some sweetness of the alcohol followed by the raisin. The beer finishes with a deep smokey flavor as it warms on the tongue.

The mouthfeel is heavy at first, but gives way to a crisp finish as the alcohol warms on the tongue.

Overall, this is a great example of the dubbel style that will not disappoint you.
