Pours brilliant mahogany-red and forms a large pocketed 3-inch tan head. The nose is somewhat restrained with hints of black, dried fruit (figs, raisins, and cherries?), and a light smokiness. Some sour notes appear after a while. The head is persistent and settles in at 1.5 inches. Belgian lace does form. The ale has a medium-light body and evident carbonation. Despite the relatively light body, the ale offers depth in flavor, with notes of dark, bitter chocolate, some suggestions of nutmeg and cardamom as well as additional dried fruit. I find none of the suggested Port wine notes. The alcohol is not evident. This is a very smooth drink, that would work well as an aperitif or as an accompaniment to smoked and barbecued foods. Pours with a three finger, khaki head that leaves a little lace. Opaque brown color. Good carbonation and medium bodied. Light roasted malt nose. Flavor follows, a hint of soapy bitterness at finish. $4.80 for a 330ml bottle from Colonial Spirits Acton, Ma.

Poured into a tulip nice brown color with a familiar raisin like traditional dubbel aroma. Very nice flavor. Pleasantly suprised as I had never heard of this beer. Starting to believe that Belgians are my favorite beers. Maybe. Nah, still prefer good IIPA. More people should try it though. Rochefort 6 is better but thus is good beer. $3.75 for the single

The colour is dark chocolate-brown with a tint of red (70 EBC), the liquid is clear. The two finger head is compact and pale brown, it sinks slowly leaving almost no lacing.

The smell is bitter-sweet with alcohol and quite a lot of milk chocolate. Phenolic notes of nutmeg and cloves. Floral notes in the background.

The taste is semi-sweet with notes of milk chocolate bars, bitter herbs, allspice and cloves. Growing sweet notes of caramel and some toffee. Medium body. The aftertaste brings growing notes of alcohol, clean bitterness, prunes and dried red fruits. The finish is a bit dry with some fruits and a hint of Madeira.

The carbonation is strong, the small bubbles are long-lived. The liquid is semi-smooth.

Drier than most Dubbels I have had. Clean and rather tasty.

Pours dark maroon red with a dense creamy light tan foam head. Smells like rich caramel, toffee, chocolate, big red and black grapes, raisin, black cherry, fig, apple, pear, toasted bready malts, with earthy herbal grassy pine. Tastes like rich caramel, toffee, chocolate, red and black grapes, raisin, black cherry, figs, apple, pear, toasted bready malts, with earthy herbal grassy pine. Feels medium bodied, creamy with moderate low carbonation. Overall a really nice dubbel.
