Double Dry-hopped 0 IBU DIPA with Citra and Mosaic. This one is literally cray cray. Almost 9lbs/BBL total hops used on this. It's hands down the most hops we've ever put in any beer. The hop presence on the aromatics and flavor profile on this one is unparalleled to any other DIPA we've released. Due to the amount of hops we had to use in this one, we will most likely not be brewing this one again. If we do, it won't be for a very long time.

Poured a cloudy orange-gold and hazy body with two-finger head that stuck around awhile. Mango, papaya, pink grapefruit, other fruits (tropical in nature, I guess), all seem to come through in the aroma. Smooth, medium body, crisp, a mix of tropical fruit sweetness that is akin to "fruit punch" with balance from an almost medicinal hop bitterness and clean finish with well-hidden ABV.

A - Opaque dark golden orange color with dense, frothy lacing.

S - Aroma is intense juicy and dank with tropical fruit, citrus, papaya, peach, apricot, and passion fruit.

T - Juicy and dank citrus and tropical fruit from start to finish with spicy, peppery citrus rind. Lots of peppery, spicy papaya, pineapple rind, papaya, peach, passion fruit, and apricot. There's a small amount of fruity bitterness on the very back end but I suspect it's coming more from the spiciness than anything.

M - Big pillowy soft, chewy body.

O - This beer is intensely flavorful and well worth checking out.

This was yet another can that I traded for that I took a while to get to. Even though I haven't had a ton from Veil, I was fortunate enough to visit them last summer and have a few more of their beers while in line at Other Half. This might have been the best of the bunch that I've tasted, as it was smooth, complex, and full of lively flavor. When the recessed alcohol was factored in, that put this beer over the proverbial top for me!

The pour to this was good as the liquid was a muted apricot with enough haze and translucency to make this a New England IPA. Plenty of head topped it off and there was quite a large amount of lacing down the side of my pint glass as I sipped this - though the collar was quite thin and spotty. Loads of fruit on the nose - citrus, tropical, dank rind, and some berry as well. All of those came through in the taste as the slick, sweet, and fleshy feel of this really shone through as it warmed up. Lots of sweetness too and very little sediment or carbonation, leading this to be a dank fruit bomb that had notes of deep forest and weed by the time I quickly finished it off...

The booze could be felt before I finished this off but the tangerine cream and nectar that came through in the back were more than enough to offset that. This was really lovely and the underlying blueberry and boysenberry feel ensure that this would go right down, even if I wanted to pace myself. Strong effort and result by The Veil on this one!

On tap

Hops: Citra, Mosaic

How does it get better than this? For a style that seeks to make something that looks and tastes like juice, this is it right here. It's insane that there is not fruit in this. This beat similar beers from Monkish and Trillium that I tried in the same night. What else is there to say.

L - 1.5 finger dense yellowish head atop a dirty orange body.

S - candied orange, herb, grapefruit.

T - tons of orange flesh and grapefruit rind. Some dankness in the middle, with sour lemon and a slightly medicinal finish. Low bitterness. Low sweetness. Low booziness.

F - medium-full body with average carb.

O - impressive hiding of abv without adding sweetness.

CAN
Deeply hazy dark amber; onion + orange oil; touch of crunchy grain, then tangerine, cantaloupe, + pineapple, dried apricot, a dusty green Mary Jane thing, slight resin, some mango, lemon hard candy, bit of scallion, resiny end; low IBUs + smooth.

Citra + Mosaic

Dec 4 canning - just shy of 7 weeks. I’ve got trouble believing that the 2 week age difference between this + Soft Style is decisive, but that beer crushed my mind, while this is just… nice. Despite the “we’ve never used so many hops!!1!” blurb, neither Citra nor Mosaic are coming across at their punchiest. Maybe this beer is just sneaky-good? Heat is buried like a secret, I’ll give it that, and it is supremely balanced. I guess I just expected more.

If anything, this beer confirms that the sweet spot for NEIPA is 3-5 weeks.
