Brewed by:
The Veil Brewing Co.
Virginia, United States

Style: New England IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 8.50%

Availability: Limited (brewed once)

Notes / Commercial Description:
Casual Drinks is a brand new 8.5% DIPA with 50% Citra and 50% El Dorado hops(and a boat of load them!). We played around with the malt profile with this one and it came out wild. It's super bright, hazzzeee, almost neon yellow.

This beer is retired; no longer brewed.

Canned 12/27/16; drank 1/7/17 @ the Yarchives.

Opaque dull orange appearance.

A rough pour yielded a huge bright white head; strong, frothy lace.

Pineapple, cane sugar & faint soy sauce notes in the nose.

Medium thick mouthfeel.

Grapefruit, cane sugar & dry white grape flavors up front; sticky caramel notes on the finish.

Too sweet & kinda dry; we're drifting towards American barleywine territory here. Drinkable but hardly exciting.

From notes.

Pours a VERY turbid golden color. This is pure haze. The head is two fingers high and white in shade, leaving behind plenty of lace on the glass. Retention is great, too.

The nose is so vibrant and bold...but it also comes across like it's superbly balanced. Notes of mango, passion fruit, peach, apricot, and grapefruit all sharply pop. Malt lies in the background, offering some sugar cookie and bread (and it knows to stay in the background, too!) For an IPA, the level of nuance here is staggering.

This is a tropical juice bomb. It starts off with flavors of mango, melon, papaya, and pineapple - the hops really aren't shy. Some of the malt appears in the mid-palate: table sugar, vanilla, and general bread are noted, alongside a slight touch of stone fruits. A very mild hint of rindy bitterness finishes it off, along with some...cherry? Yeah, cherry. Yikes, this one is complex, and somehow perfectly balanced all at the same time. This isn't just a crowning achievement for the brewery, but for the style in general.

It has a medium body and a pillowy-soft texture. This doesn't seem like it's very bitter at all as it traverses the palate. Okay, it might be a bit sweet (and maybe even a bit undercarbonated?) but it's dry enough to go down way too easily for something this big.

Mark it down - this is my favorite IPA from The Veil. AND THAT IS SAYING SOMETHING.

4.6/5: This is how you make a New England-style IPA

Pulpy, opaque orange brew, with a big, frothy off-white head. Epic retention and fantastic lacing.

Fruit and herbal nose, with the emphasis on juicy hops. Mandarin orange, lemon, mango, and resinous dank notes.

Flavor follows, leaning a little more toward sickly sweet dank hops than the nose, but retaining a massive amount of fruit juice. Orange mango marmalade sprinkled with wildflower honey, grass, and lemon juice.

Creamy and lively feel. Super easy to drink, coating the mouth with sticky hop oils before the alcohol starts to hotly evaporate on the tongue and palate.

Another wonderful NE-style DIPA, absolutely crushing the style. El Dorado hops aren't my favorite (but they might be yours!), but the execution is excellent regardless.

Another cloudy DIPA from The Veil that, once more, knocks it WAY OUT of the park! Sampled this in the same session as Crucial Crucial Aunt Aunt, and I have to say that I love them both. Simply amazing balance and taste. Great hop, floral, and citrus flavors and smells. Need MOAR

16oz can poured into an oversized wine glass

A- pours a hazy and murky bright yellow color with a foamy white head that reduces to a thin film on top

S- aroma is a nice mix of citrus and floral hops; tangerine, grapefruit zest, flower pedal and a hint of grass. Also a spicy earthiness at the end

T- plenty of floral hop notes up front, along with a raw hop bitterness. Mid-palate brings out some of the citrus notes from the citra, grapefruit, orange zest. The finish brings a bit of pine, with more citrus on the linger.

M- medium body and carbonation leads to a foamy mouthfeel that continues into a semi-dry finish

O- a nice hop blend that has good drinkability

I'm a sucker for these NE style IPAs. This pours straight up Minute Maid with a small frothy head. Smell is citrus and a little pine. Taste is orange, mango, pineapple. Delicious!

Hazy and murky as all hell in a pale bright golden yellow thing with a solid white foamy head. Very attractive to say the least. Nose is also bright with tangerine, dandelion and a little earthy shot towards the end. Taste favors dandelion up front with the next taste wave supplying grapefruit and the earthy. Body is pretty great too. Carbonated like a thin beer but solidly medium bodied.

Poured a hazy, yellow color with a thick 2-3 finger bright white head. Smells of citrus, primarily grapefruit, lemon, floral notes, and a slight note of hops. Taste has a solid hop backbone throughout, hints of citrus mostly lemon in the beginning, a little earthy, not much in the way of hoppy bitterness, leaves a lingering citrus aftertaste. Medium body. Exceptionally easy drinking. Overall highly interesting beer, should pair well with lighter fare. I think it smells better than it tasted but the taste was solid overall.

Another stunning brew from Veil. Pours bright yellow cloudy. Nose is very floral, but also strong sharp hops from the simcoe, blends well. Taste is smooth, deep tasty hops. Super delicious
