Visited a few times, typically early in the day (maybe right after opening) on a weekend.

V - Industrial and open with garage doors and plenty of concrete and steel. I like that though, especially the flow from inside to outside. 4.25

Q - Beer from the source and it sells so fast, the quality is always great. 4.5

Ser - Friendly and helpful. Never been here during "rush hour." 4.25

Sel - Great beers but not always broad in the variety of styles. But I still love those IPAs! 4

Awkwardly hilarious usage of turnstyles aside, despite however necessary they actually are, this may be the most modernly hip and sleekly designed brewery I've visited. The black marble wall and sparing use of unorthodox and contrasting decoration like taxidermied animals is a unique change of pace.

As much as I wanted to scoff at this place, it was a million steps up from our experience at Hardywood, as the beer was the focus, with plenty of room to chill despite their hosting several birthday parties and other large groups. Even though they were busy, the line moved fast enough for me. Using the same style glass for short or full pours might be a cause for delays, but only minimally so. If they're willing to risk breaking these glasses so frequently, more power to them, as they do photograph well, which I'm sure is the primary intention.

The beer itself is that which you'd expect from these haze purveyors: IPAs, DIPAs, Pale Ales...oh and a Gose. Most people coming here specifically have these beer styles on the brain, so at least you get what you expect without any hassle--it's just that it's a very small selection of taps. Having it all fresh and on draft exhibits a quality I've not had out of any their cans acquired via trading. As such, I definitely found it to be a worthwhile stop while in the area. Even if the hazy NE-style IPA isn't necessarily your thing, these are some unique, enjoyable beer experiences at The Veil.

A sleek and homey designed bar sets a good vibe. It does tend to get overcrowded in the evenings but the bartenders move through the never-ending lines rather quickly. Always a nice selection on tap, a must stop while in Richmond.

This was the biggest disappointment of our trip to Richmond/DC area breweries. Perhaps the hype is just too much to live up to.....

I've traded for Veil beers before and have been unimpressed. That being said, I wanted to go right to the source. They make juicy, NE style IPAs, my drink of choice. The outside area looks like a cool place to hang but it was too cold. Inside was cramped, and other than the cool "THE VEIL BREWING CO" sign, the vibe and atmosphere inside was hipster.

The service was good as they did a great job of going through lots of people and all the servers had smiles on their faces the whole time. But.....the beer was just not that good. It was ok, better than shelf beer from your local craft beer spot. I was excited to see 1 IPA, 5 DIPAs and 2 Triple IPAs on the board. Wanted to try them all...and did. They all pretty much tasted the same. They all looked the same. They all smelt the same. I felt like it was a social experiment where they just kept serving me the same thing to see if I would react. I think I finished one of the pours (6 oz pours) because it just wasn't good and I was determined to fine a good one. I finally switched over to PB Hornswoggle thinking maybe I just don't like their IPA character. That was thin, no lacing and not really tasty.

I just don't get the high ratings on their beers. I'll certainly try their stuff in the future but would by no means at all go out of my way for it.

Awesome venue! Super cool! Great atmosphere. Servings in tall stemmed wine glasses, nice! Excellent selection and great beers! A must visit if in Richmond.

This was my 2nd time to Veil. I love their beer and will look forward to every visit. Can release day so the line was kinda long to get a beer and my 2 6-packs but no line for the next one. Very nice tap room, lots of tables outside and some of the best beer in anywhere. This is a must visit for beer geeks.

We stopped by on a not-too-busy Friday. I hear it's crazy for releases, but our visit was not bad at all.

This is a tasting room with a laid back vibe. The garage doors were open, and there was outside seating that is more or less an extension of the parking lot. A grill was up serving food - basically seemed like a food truck set up without the truck.

The beer selection was IPA-heavy but they had an Oktoberfest, a fruit Gose, and a milk stout. The IPAs were generally heavy-hopped cloudy, NE IPAs. These had various levels of juiciness but most were backed by a decent bitter dose.

Service was single-line based and moved at an average pace. Interactions were limited, but friendly.

I can imagine this place getting a little crazy on release days. It wasn't too large a space. We had an enjoyable, relaxing stay, though.

Yes, it is hipster. But, Yes it is very freaking good... I just wish I could get cans from this place easier.

It's been a few years since I've been to Richmond, VA so this time around I felt I needed to stop at the Veil. Unfortunately I-95 had different plans for me, and although she tried to keep me away completely and delayed me by hours - I finally made it!

It's a nice looking place, and the weather was great so there were plenty of people hanging outside. There was a food truck, by the way, but it didn't seem like the center of attention, it was just a party going on. The line to get beers went quickly, and soon my wife and I were tucked into a corner enjoying some interesting brews.

The crowd had a good vibe, which is usually the case, and it was mostly made up of intelligent, funny, and interesting people (there were some douche-bag just ready-to-drink and get F-d up and try to pick up chicks a-holes but what can you do?). Oddly, and a first for me, there was a children's birthday party going on which was ... umm ... weird, but OK, rock on mom and dad! I hadn't made it down from Philly in time to get some cans, they'd sold out - thank you I-95 - but I asked a guy who had some and he gladly offered to sell me some. $1 extra a piece, ahhh, that's OK by me. And then we had a good time talking. A good time was had by all.

The beers were excellent in my opinion, although my wife could have done with something a little more mainstream like a hefeweizen. She made due with some kind of sour beer. Ehhh, I understand that having a variety of beer to offer is a good thing, but at the same time if you specialize in something you should follow that. And besides, if every brewery offered a blonde/amber/stout/wheat/Belgian/strong where would we be? That's kind of nonsense.

So, all in all, great stop. I can't wait to get back!
