Amber reddish color, not sowhite foam. Average.
In the smell some aromatic notes, elderberry, anise, ginger, spices.
Spicy taste, fresh, with the same notes of the smell.
Absolutely pleasant, fresh, and thirst-quenching.
It has also a strong bitter note, good.
Quite thinbody, a good and long bitterness in the aftertaste.
Interesting.

Got this bottle from the Pivovarsky Dum in Prague. As the bottle claims, it's brewed to be a Pivni Aperitiv, i.e. Beer Aperitif. At first I thought it was one of their own house products, as the barman told me he liked this beer (aperitif) very very much and presumably a brewpub would rarely sell other breweries' beers (?). Anyway, it turns out a very interesting brew.

Dark amber colour, with a rocky head full of rather large bubbles, quite fizzy as well. The mixed aroma contains Thai ginger/galanga, nutmeg, liqurice, a little bit of cinnamon(?)... overall quite spicy, underlined by a refreshingly malty backbone. The palate is at first slightly sweet malty (a bit like ginger ale) and immediately followed by a deep savour of spices and herbs packed together like that from a glass of spiced wine. Besides being spicy from the first drop to the end, the aftertaste is incredibly, intensively bitter--the kind of bitterness I've ever experienced from taking Chinese herb medicine-soup! Not that it's not nice, on the contrary, it's distinctive for a beer. The residual bitterness is softened with a pleasant tinge of sweet peppermint and some hoppyness, thus arousing further mouthwatering. Overall, it's a quite different beer and definitely a nice aperitif, though I personally have reservations about the idea of packing so much spicy elements in one small bottle. Apart from that, it's a rare and nice find!

Brought direct from Prague by a colleague, this very interesting brew came in a 33cl brown tapered bottle with a beige, gold and black label featuring the name (both the Czech and English parts) and a gold crown int he background. The ingredients list is in Czech - honey is definitely there, plus some sort of aroma additive. Best before 2/25/04, I opened it the day I got it, 3/3/04.

Pours a fairly light clear copper hue under a less than one finger tan head that fades quite quickly. No lacing. The nose is strong and sweet, mainly licorice, a bit like root beer, with a definite Christmasy nutmeg element. It's certainly interesting. The mouth is quite prickly and fairly light, yet sticky. The taste? I hated the first sip, but I'm growing to like it. The licorice and nutmeg are very powerful in the opening, but there are lots of hops waiting in the wings. The finish is a good crisp bitterness that rather sneaks up on you as you savor the sweet opening. Root beer comes back in the aftertaste, but accented by a good bitterness. I definitely wouldn't recommend this complex brew to a Bud drinker, but there is an awful lot for a BA to like about it.
