Very slightly hazy gold-straw color. Pours a moderate head with mixed bubble sizes. The bubbles in the head combined to all medium sized and larger bubbles as it slowly collapsed. Low flow of tiny bubbles from the bottom of the glass. Left groups of tiny patches of lacing.

Smells of a light horse blanket with something sweet I can't identify. Faint fresh white bread dough yeast and malt. Swirling the glass kicked up a hoppy scent and stronger bread dough.

Even balance of floral/vegetal hop flavor with the malt. Low to medium bitter level that presents evenly over time. The aftertaste is simply the main set of flavors fading away. A light nut flavor pops up in the aftertaste after it warms up a bit. Very clean and crisp. The flavor is style accurate and could be swapped with Pilsners drunk in Czechia.

More carbonation apparent in the mouth than in the glass. This quickly turns into a light bodied, fine foam that quickly collapses. Very slightly astringent a few seconds after swallowing.

The scent is a little more flamboyant than beers in Pilsen. Otherwise this could easily be slipped into an assortment in Czechia undetected. This could easily be a house standard through the summer. I'm not a big fan of west coast Pilsners and Lagers. The local acidic water with very low calc content generally turns out fishy and/or metallic tasting Pilsners. There are a few karst regions in the province, but sadly none of them sport a brewery that could take advantage of the water. F&W seems to have found a secret aquifer.

Reading some of the previous reviews, it appears that there have been issues with carbonation levels. This current batch is fine.

Incredibly over carbonated. Couldn't pour it into a snifter without it foaming over.
Once the fizz settles down the aroma and flavor are very much Czech.

Good recipe. Just hoping they get the carbonation issue under wraps

Drinking from pilsner glass, poured from 355ml can. Pours a little cloudy and straw coloured, unremarkable head. I catch a whiff of citrus from it. Hoppier than I expected at first, it is a hop with which I am unfamiliar. Spicy, almost mango notes. High carbonation in this one, some seriously active bubbles happening. It went down rather quickly. I didn't like it much at first to be honest but that is not uncommon when I get an unexpected hit of hops, and I quite enjoyed this 6 pack. Overall a welcome addition to the Vancouver beer scene, I'd put it just above "something different" tier and will likely pick up another 6 pack this summer.

Got on trade! 355ml can served at 4deg C in a draught glass

A- Opens well and pours a 1" high white head that films out within 2mins or so. Light to medium gold colour and unfiltered

S- Nice hop presence. Very light on the malt. Has a bubble gum scent to it.

T- Funny light sweet taste to it but it's not bad. Just different. Slightly bitter at the end.

M- Dry and tart. Very carbonated to say the least.

O- Nice brew. Not something I'll go running to buy but it was nice and refreshing. Nice change up brew. Worth a 6pk at least in the cellar to shake it up.

Food Pairing

This nice little brew went well with.......... Sauerkraut pirogues!! Butter them up and serve.

Enjoy

355ml can. I'm always open to trying a new Czech (style) Pilsner - I wonder who actually brewed this one?

This beer pours a slightly hazy, pale golden yellow colour, with a teeming tower of puffy, rocky, and somewhat creamy dirty white head, which leaves some chunky smoke signal lace around the glass as it quickly sinks away.

It smells of grainy and crackery pale malt, a certain chalky flintiness, subtle indistinct pale fruity notes, and gently leafy and grassy hop bitters. The taste is semi-sweet bready and doughy pale malt, a touch of caramel sweetness, white grape juice, a more laid-back white chalk thing, and more plain leafy, weedy, and wet grassy hoppiness.

The bubbles are still quite active, long after that opening salvo, what with their cheeky frothiness, the body a decent medium weight, and generally smooth, nothing really sniffing around enough to cause any trouble. It finishes off-dry, that grapey fruity character hanging on like an unwanted third wheel.

Overall, not a bad brew, however, the crisp grassy and mildly gasohol-informed floral bitterness that you get in yer finer versions of the style seems altogether lacking here. Simple and easy to drink, with that extra shot of fruitiness to appeal to those generic North American tastebuds, I would imagine - though funnily enough, it didn't work on me.
