This is a very good, authentic take on a Munich Helles lager. First beer I've tried from Southern Barrel and I'm impressed.
A: standard helles - pale with a nice foamy head that leaves decent lacing
S: light bready malts and some grassy hops; very good and true to style
T: very similar to nose; quenching, light, and refreshing while still plenty flavorful for a helles. No off flavors or smells
F: good carbonation but not too much; light mouthfeel but not completely watery; correct for style
O: a finely made attempt at a Helles. Had on tap at Closed For Business in Charleston and picked up a 6-pack on my way out of town. Cheers!

Southern Barrel Helles Lager

A: The beer is crystal clear golden yellow in color and has a moderate amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a quarter finger high white head that died down, leaving only a thin ring of bubbles around the edge of the glass. The head eventually completely faded away.
S: Light to moderate aromas of biscuity malts are present in the nose—these become stronger as the beer warms up.
T: The taste has flavors of biscuity malts along with notes of bready malts and hints of floral and grassy malts. There is a light amount of bitterness.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is easy to drink, nice and clean, and is a good American representation of a German beer style.

A: Pours a crystal clear medium golden yellow in color with moderate to heavy amounts of active visible carbonation rising quickly from the bottom of the glass and faint amber highlights. The beer has a finger tall foamy white head that reduces fairly quickly to a mottled medium thick film covering the entire surface of the beer and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Light to moderate amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Light to moderate aromas of biscuit malts with a light aroma of grassy hops.

T: Upfront there are moderate flavors of biscuit and bready malts with just a hint of honey like sweetness. That is followed by light to moderate flavors of grassy + floral hops with a light amount of bitterness in the finish which does not linger for long.

M: Just shy of medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Clean.

O: Easy to drink with well hidden alcohol and a nice mouthfeel. Enjoyable and a nice representation of the style from a newer American brewery.

A: Hazy light golden color, large off white head, good lacing
S: Really malty, grass, corn, hay
T: Sweet maltiness, bread, hay, a bitter hop balance at the end of the taste, the aftertaste gives me a nice yeasty skunkiness
M: LIght to medium
O: A really nice German style lager. Would love to have again. Picked up at whole foods in Savannah GA.

A fine example of this Munich lager. Sweet malt on the start with nicely balanced hop bitterness in middle and light malt on the finish. Bought in cans and glad I tried it.

Pours a slightly cloudy golden yellow. Medium head resolving in a fair lacing.
Smell is light sweet malt and some grassy notes.
Taste is a quick hit of sweet malt followed by grassy hops and a smooth light bitterness.

Pours a clear pale gold producing 3 fingers of finely bubbled, frothy, white head that leaves a nice sheet of speckled, blotchy, webby lacing. Aroma is definitely Munich Helles lager: biscuity malt, a hint of toast, lager yeast, honey, grass & lemon. Taste is biscuit, cereal, grassy & lemon, lager yeast, honey & pepper. Finishes lightly bitter, smooth & relatively clean but not crisp. Aftertaste is a thin version of the taste but with more bitterness. Mouthfeel is light-medium bodied with moderate carbonation, peppery, juicy in the mouth but finishes dry.

I got a can of this beer from my good friend and old neighbor from the 'Wego. It poured a clear golden with white head that is not leaving much lace. The scent had grain and earthy notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with bread and grain presence. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall its a good beer.

Pours into a becker a dull golden with a full finger bone white head atop.Somewhat floral in the nose with underlying lightly toasted grain and a honey tinge.Pretty crisp and dry on the palate, not alot standing out but the crispness is nice. Not bad a good outside grilling beer like I'am doing today.

Draft pint at Husk.
Brilliant gold, ample head of foam, rising carbonation visible, delicate lacing around the edges.
Soft biscuity aroma, lightly bready and crackery, dry with a lightly grassy noble hop note.
Taste is fresh and malty, biscuit and clover honey flavors, crisp and clean, finishes dry.
Light bodied and very smooth, pleasantly crisp and not sweet. Paired really well with food.
Simplicity is highly underrated, this is a great Helles.

12 oz can

A slight haze to a golden color with amber highlights. A full blown 3" tower of white foam and sticky lace is impressive. Nice looker.

A sweet malty aroma, honey malt, golden wheat, sweet corn, slightly creamy with a tangy, herbal and hoppy sweet style nose.

Incredibly crisp, clean malty mouthfeel and flavor. A slightly long malty slickness in the finish. Buttery malt, honey like sweetness, dried herbs, green veggies and a mix of spices are all very interesting. A rather complex and interesting version of this style. Southern Barrel totally nails the style!!

Yeah....dang, seriously impressed!

12 oz can of "Southern Helles Lager" served in a Belgian glass.

Pours like apple juice: amber, slightly hazy, with a weak head and minimal lacing.

Aroma: just OK

The flavor is better. Modestly bold and malty for style.

Feel: Medium body with medium-low carbonation.
