I like the classy bottle label artwork, great use of color. The pour is straw colored but the carbonation is not a bubbly as I expected it to be. There is no date on the bottle just a long number code on the back of the bottle label. The taste is faintly floral, bready, malty, sweet, grainy, minor caramel note, with a semi dry finish. It's a decent German Pilsner but I like the Ayinger better. Cheers! B-

Poured from the bottle into a pilsner style glass.

Bright but dark and shimmering brass yellow, with crystal clear clarity. Fine and just the right amount of plentiful carbonation, perhaps a little less than I anticipated, tracking it's way to a thick but soupy bleach white three finger head. Cup and island slight retention, like a weak meringue, and nice creamy lacing on the edges. Great looking pilsner.

Classic German aroma it seems with a touch of candy like sweet. Muted and solid bread white dough, a nice touch of spiced hop herbality, and an almost cotton candy sweetness hiding in the back.

Palate takes a bit of a turn by seeing a bit dialed down. Very light bodied, almost like a very light Helles, with neutral and very subtle tones. Muted crispness but also doesn't seem to carry much bready density that seems like is hinted on the nose. Clean, yet particularly interesting sweet malt finish and a bit of muted hop profile.

It's decent and very easy drinking, but also feels very dumbed down. While good and pleasurable I'd probably prefer a different brand or maker, but she will work fine.

I made the rounds tonight while the wife had some work to take care of... stopped in at Brewforia... I had to buy something :-) This took $2.79 off the $25 bill :-P

The Label on this one is now different .... it now shows dark blue dusk with a fortress and spotlights .... the EKU is big block red.

Pours very nice... 1" rocky white head... crystal clear straw golden... Great lacing.

Grainy maltiness... spicy/grassy hoppiness... a bit of sulfur that goes away thankfully.

crisp.. not as bitter as many German pils (especially American takes) ... lite cereal maltiness throughout... the bitterness also trails through well... some grassy hops show midway and move on to the finish.

Body is lite/medium with a good everpresent small bubble carbonation.

This tastes surprisingly fresh... dry and a bit sulfury in the burps.. but really I am pretty happy despite the price tag.

This is a very average beer. It is a light yellow with a white head. There is some lacing, but not a lot. The smell is funny because straight out of the bottle this had quite a whiff of skunk but it dissapeared pretty quickly. After the skunk came your wet straw, some citrus, and then a bit of sunflower as the beer settled. The taste underwent some changes too. At first the hoppiness came through more so than when the beer finally settled. This is a slightly watery, light bodied, medium carbonation beer with not much going on one way or the other. What do I get are hints of the following in the taste: dryness, straw, some bits of citrus bite, a peppery bitterness at the end, some maltiness in the mid section. Eh ... this is just average.

Ahhhh, a nice pilsner.

Nothing too special about it really. A dark gold and a wonderfully thick head. Nice carbonation. The taste is very clean, with a nice (but light) earthy presence of hops and a touch of butter.

It is a very straightforward beer, not too much to say really. A well designed pilsner, but nothing too special. There are much better pilsners out there in the same price class.

Poured from an 11.2oz bottle into a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a deep gold color, with a short white head that fades slowly and leaves a thin lace on the glass.

S: The aroma is of lager yeast, light caramelized malts, some honey and a touch of hops.

T: The taste starts out sweet with flavors of light malts, caramel and honey that are quickly followed by bready flavors of lager yeast and grain. There's a mild hops presence that bring some balance. The after-taste is slightly sweet.

M: Crisp and smooth, light-to-medium body, medium carbonation, finish is clean.

D: A little tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, mild kick, good representation of style, it's a solid beer to drink for a while but there are better beers in the style that I would choose first.

Pours a clear golden/yellow with a giant white foamy head. The smell is alittle weak with only hints of floral and sweet malt present. The taste is very crisp with an intial hop bite that fades to a malt sweetness with floral earthy flavors. The m/f is light with all the flavors mixing well. A very good pils that could make this a summer everyday beer.

12 ounce bottle from Beer of the month club, poured into a pilsner type glass.

A: Bright and clear out of the bottle, with your basic yellow straw beer color. An average size white foamy head, although I was expecting more.

S: Hay, grass, grains in the aroma with light floral notes.

T: Lots of grainy hay and grass flavor with a little touch of malt sweetness. Your basic pilsner type beer, but with a little bit of a grassy hop finish that lingers longer than normal.

M: Light bodied and medium to highly carbonated.

D: Light, refreshing, clean, crisp easy to drink although maybe a little bit boring. Would be refreshing on a hot summer day or perhaps paired with any hot, spicy dish.

Everything about this beer was pretty darn average

Poured a pale yellow with a decent head that disapated into a modest lace

All malt nose with some very sweet, "cheap beer" scents, a times it's a little too sweet.

The taste buds experience exactly what the nose led them to believe, a malty beer which is very very sweet.

Pretty much a middle of the road beer, that walks a fine line between being ok and being too sweet

12oz bottle, quite hefty and poured into a flute glass. No freshness date.

A: Pours a crystal clear and very pale gold with a half inch creamy white head, nice carbonation ropes bubbling up from the bottom of the glass.

S: Clean and grassy with a bit of green apple and huskiness to it, smell like a pilsner should if just a slight bit corny.

T/MF: Super clean and carbonation so tightly packed on the tongue it feels almost creamy, solid sweet grassy apple and dextrose like opening with a slight hop twang in the middle with a protracted finish with a good deal of hop oil running down the center of its tongue, the malt bitterness is there as well and the finish is quite long and just a bit nutty, everything is very nicely balanced and the mouthfeel is exceptional.

D: Pretty nice pils, well balanced and sexy mouthfeel, the only knock here is the rather bland appearance.

Bottle poured into a standard US pint glass.

Pours a >2cm head of medium-sized bubbles, white in color, producing a very dense-looking collection. This fades, over the course of the drink, to a 0.5cm ring around the glass and some islands of foam. The body is a pale golden color, transparent, with a single stream of continuous carbonation holding the perpetual head aloft.

Aroma is clean and distinct, giving odes to flowery hops and light, sweet malts.

Taste opens with fairly good balance between flowery and herbal hop flavors alongside pilsner malt sweetness and grain flavors. The malt components win out briefly, yielding light breadiness . Hops reclaim in the finish with a slight citrus rind twang leading to nice, comfortable bitterness in the back of the tongue. Lingering taste of faint malt and gentle bitterness.

Body is medium to medium light. Could use a bit more carbonation than what experienced, but still adequate. Finish is dry.

While drinking this and writing the review, I didn't even notice how quickly I had finished the beer. This is just a very crisp, clear German pilsener that showcases everything enjoyable about the style.

On tap at Tap and Mallet in Rochester, NY.

This one pours a golden yellow color, clear and inviting, with a small head, and lots of lacing.

This smells like grassy hops, a light malt sweetness, flowers, and light lemon.

This is basically exactly what you'd expect for the style. It's got a light hoppiness, maybe not quite as much of a bite as I'd want, with a lightly sweet malty and bready sweetness. It's simple, but that's what you want for the style.

This is light bodied, crisp, and very clean, with no off-flavors. It's very drinkable.

This isn't the absolute best imported German pils, but it's still worth a try and a great pour.

From a 12 oz. bottle with the new black label design.

A - beautiful copper, deep golden color. Glowing gold. Perfectly clear, head is a tight bed of small white bubbles. Head lingers, leaving little lacing.

S - not a ton of aroma here, sweet malt, corn. Spicy saaz hop smells.

T - very sweet beer. Malty, cooked/cream corn. Lots of DMS in the nose and flavor. Bitterness comes in eventually, but balance tilts toward sweet sugar. Spicy noble hop flavor is present but not pronounced, and not significant enough to balance malt sweetness here.

M - medium bodied, carbonation moderate to medium high. Sweet, filling, although finish is somewhat crisp.

D - not my favorite European pils. Very sugary sweet with little hop character or presence. Will not be having this one again.

Poured into a pils glass:

Pours light golden yellow - plenty of clarity - with a towering head that slowly descends to a lasting thin cover. Spotted, foamy lacing sticks to glass.

The smell is of graininess and some hay. Not complex, but clean and in style.

The taste is grainy - sweet at first, with hay-like grassiness and herbal bitterness catching up. Herbal bitterness a bit much - becoming slightly metallic, but there is enough malt to keep it balanced. Crisp finish.

Appropriately light-bodied. Refreshing.

A refreshing quench-thirster (despite touch of bitterness - not something I normally complain about, but a bit off here). Smooth - disappears quickly.

The third Pilsner of the night, and the weakest of the three (behind Victory Prima and Stoudt's).

Into a pilsner glass it poured a golden yellow with a fizzy, 2-3 finger white head that dissipated pretty quickly. Not much lacing.

The smell was somewhat odd. I wrote down "it smells like beer," which made me think of American Macro Lagers I drank in high school. That's not necessarily a good thing, though I suppose for the style it shouldn't altogether surprise me. A very faint hint of hops was present when I sniffed deeply.

As for taste: I thought it was somewhat bland compared to the two other pilsners I'd just had. I described it as malty, dry and slightly fruity, with a mild, metallic hop tang at the finish.

Mouthfeel: light and crisp, but highly carbonated.

Definitely drinkable in the sense that it's not very heavy and won't weigh you down. On the other hand, I thought it lacked in flavor and was blander than other versions of this style, and so if I wanted a session pilsner, I'd go with one of those instead.

Ah, the skunkiness of German beer gone bad. This is yet another of those (almost) intentionally skunked up brews. And its even in a brown bottle.

It pours dirty yellow with nice bubbles and a finishing hops aroma. The taste is a funky dry taste that is not at all difficult to swallow. Easy to guzzle, though funky.

I can't really recommend this as for some reason the German imported ones of these are usually a bit stale tasting.

11.2oz bottle. Pours a golden yellow color with a white head that leaves a good amount of lacing. The aroma is malted grain with some spicy German hops. The taste is smooth with some malt up front with a nice little bite from the spicy hops in the finish. The mouthfeel is light and crisp. Overall, this is a very enjoyable pils that is highly drinkable. When in the mood for a pils, I will definately pick up again. Recommended.

This pils pours a clear golden straw color with a respectable white head. Nice sheets of lacing remain.

The aroma is mostly husky corn with some pepper, light doughy malt, and earthy hops.

The flavor is lighter than many pilseners out there. Some graininess, peppery, spicy earthy, hops. Not bad, but could be a little more flavorful.

The mouthfeel good, but the aftertaste is slightly astringent. That fades somewhat over time. Not a bad pils...good for a warm day.

A - Poured out a clear, straw yellow color with a two-finger, white, pillowy head of fluffy foam. It left thin traces of lace.

S - It smelled of grains and floral notes. No skunkiness thanks to a brown bottle.

T - It had a sharp, spicy hop bite for a pilsener. Good grain flavor with some caramel sweetness. Really well done.

M - It was crisp, sharp and smooth. A light bodied lager with a fairly dry finish.

D - This was really pretty good. I feared it might be old because of the high price point. Quite a tasty German Pils.
