Bottle poured into a standard US pint glass.

Pours a >2cm head of medium-sized bubbles, white in color, producing a very dense-looking collection. This fades, over the course of the drink, to a 0.5cm ring around the glass and some islands of foam. The body is a pale golden color, transparent, with a single stream of continuous carbonation holding the perpetual head aloft.

Aroma is clean and distinct, giving odes to flowery hops and light, sweet malts.

Taste opens with fairly good balance between flowery and herbal hop flavors alongside pilsner malt sweetness and grain flavors. The malt components win out briefly, yielding light breadiness . Hops reclaim in the finish with a slight citrus rind twang leading to nice, comfortable bitterness in the back of the tongue. Lingering taste of faint malt and gentle bitterness.

Body is medium to medium light. Could use a bit more carbonation than what experienced, but still adequate. Finish is dry.

While drinking this and writing the review, I didn't even notice how quickly I had finished the beer. This is just a very crisp, clear German pilsener that showcases everything enjoyable about the style.

11.2 oz. bottle,

A: Pours a clear gold with a medium white head, excellent retention, good lace.

S: Nice sourdough bready malt, very floral noble hopping.

T: As with the smell, a great mix of pils malt and floral hops, grassy.

M: Light-bodied, very crisp and easy drinking.

O: An excellent pils, I don't know why I don't drink it more often.

Nice creamy 1 finger head fades semi quickly bit of lacing, crystal clear golden straw color.

Nose nice cracked straw, toasty malts, grainy, juicy amber malts, hint of noble floral grassy hops.

Taste is lighter than I expected but nice, cracked straw and toasty pilsner malts, bit of that earthy gritty grainy taste, then some light sweet amber malts, some nice floral grassy noble hops come late and add a bit of bitterness. dry finish with almost no lingering taste light bitterness lingering. Mostly crisp and clean finish.

Mouth is lighter bodied, decent carb.

Overall nice, a bit lighter than expected, nice malts, crisp and clean, finishes a bit too quick as well.

Pours with a beautiful 2 finger head and nice compact cappuccino like foam which leaves great lacing. Smells malty with a hint of hay and loads of fresh earthy yet juicy hop aromas. The is sharp with piney hops that stick to the top of the tongue but get carried though out the pallet by the silky smooth malt. Slightly dry finish with the hop flavors lingering just asking for some more company, and really, how could you not take another sip?

Overall this is a showcase pilsner and a great example of it’s style, I put it right up there with Victory Prima Pils.

A. Pours straw yellow. 1 inch head that doesn't last.

S. Clean, slightly grassy aroma.

T. Bite of mild hops, earthy/hay flavor.

M. Medium-high carbonation, zesty on the tongue.

Overall very light, clean and bland with a faint bitterness that fades quickly. I'm not a fan of light beer in general, but this was more subtle than any other light beer I've tried.

12oz. brown bottle poured into a fluted pils glass.

A - Pours like a classic German Pils: Beautiful, towering off-white head 4 fingers high. Crystal clear, light to medium golden body with light carbonation. Head settles down to 1/2 a finger in a few minutes, leaving spotty lacing

S - Grassy, hay and typical pils smell, with perhaps a light hoppy floral note.

T - Standard pils, nothing jumps out here. Bready malt followed with a slightly underwhelming hops bite. Bitter aftertaste dissipates a few minutes afterward.

M - Watery with very little carbonation. Slightly boring feel in a swish & swallow.

Overall, not a bad representation of the breed, but nowhere near Best in Class. This pils would be good for a few bottles, but gets boring after while.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass.

Appears dangerously light. I just held it up in front of my eyes and could watch the Mets game through it.

Smells and tastes alike: thin and starfish with a sweet that comes through the late middle and rests at the end.

mouthfeel is thin with a subtle pilsy dust at the end.

Overall on the lighter side and I wouldn't necessarily seek it out but am a little intrigued with the subtle sweet surprise. Interesting to have a fruit different than a wit orange of HW banana clove.

pours remarkably clear from the bottle, very light straw color. dense, fine head that fades to a long-lasting thin-film.

smell is quite subtle, but some good nuances - well-rounded malt profile, slight fruitiness and just a hint of the european hop profile. taste is good, but honestly a bit of a let-down. a subtle pilsener is one thing, but EKU leaves you want a little bit more. the hops are almost non-existent and i found myself more interested with the fruity under-currents of the yeast and malt.

excellent mouthfeel, perfect carbonation.

overall a very sessionable beer, but there's many better fish in the sea.

Pours a bright yellow color with a huge white head into my glass. Lots of lacing and so forth.

Sweet with a good dose of buttery malt and grassy hops upfront. Smells like the style for sure.

Crisp, lightly buttered malt greets the tongue, followed by a decent hop bite.

Clean with just the right level of carbonation. Closer to the style than some examples I've had.

A decent, easy to enjoy pilsner for those who are fans of the style. Worth a try.

I really want to find a German pils that I like. I feel bad that they all taste the same to me and it's rather disappointing. This beer is clear yellow it's earthy and mild flavored. Fresh cut grass on the taste too. Not much hops on the nose. Not my favorite style.

12 ounce bottle from Beer of the month club, poured into a pilsner type glass.

A: Bright and clear out of the bottle, with your basic yellow straw beer color. An average size white foamy head, although I was expecting more.

S: Hay, grass, grains in the aroma with light floral notes.

T: Lots of grainy hay and grass flavor with a little touch of malt sweetness. Your basic pilsner type beer, but with a little bit of a grassy hop finish that lingers longer than normal.

M: Light bodied and medium to highly carbonated.

D: Light, refreshing, clean, crisp easy to drink although maybe a little bit boring. Would be refreshing on a hot summer day or perhaps paired with any hot, spicy dish.

11.2oz bottle to pokal. EKU has moved away from the classic white label as displayed on BA to a more contemporary design, which is pretty awful.

A: Pours with a 4 finger bright white, compact and foamy head. Excellent retention depositing some sticky sea foam lace as it slowly recedes. The body of the beer is light gold but very bright and could not be any clearer. As the beer continues to disappear from the glass, seemingly does the lace from drying out.

S: Very grainy with straw malts and a scent reminiscent to graham cracker. Beautiful balance between the malts and the grassiness of the noble hops.

T: Crisp flavors with moderate spicy hop bitterness.

M: Medium-light body and far from thin. Extremely crisp and refreshing. Medium-high carbonation.

D: Great palatability, excellent drinkability.

Another Beer of the Month brew... I need to politely tell my sister and brother-in-law not to get me this again...

First sip can't go by without a positive mention of the body and mouthfeel. Very very nice. The body is medium/full and very well-carbonated. It works quite well.

The flavor has some light sweetness-- it actually reminds me of the smell of sweet corn, but I'm sure that isn't an ingredient here... Right? Some noble hops come in too-- spicy and floral notes mainly. The taste follows suit; light sweetness up front, floral hops at the back, spicy hops a little further back, and a clean crisp finish.

The beer itself is a light, clear, pale gold color. White head of a thick creamy finger and some lacing... I like the color-- but the retention/lace is a bit of a downer.

My overall impression us that this is the best beer of the month club beer I've been sent... It is tasty. It is good enough that I will actually drink the rest of them, rather than give them away...

I will preface this review by saying that I am generally not a huge fan of pilseners, German or otherwise.

This brew came in my BOTM shipment, so lets give it a whirl....

A - Appearance is good, brilliant straw color, exceptional attenuation and a solid head with lacing.

S - Typical Pils smell (slight DMS) other than that, not too much going on, but not too rancid either (which is a problem for me with pilseners).

T - Light, crisp and refreshing. Not a lot of hops, or a lot of malt, which is good for me since I generally don't like extremely flavorful pilseners (with the exception of Victory Prima Pils). Nothing offensive, no DMS, no diacetyl.

M - Light bodied, good carbonation.

D - Again, I'm not a fan of the style so I generally don't want another. That said, this is one that I could have a few of if nothing of another style (or only BMC) were available.

11.2 oz single. Very pale gold lager, tight white head.Good lace. Actually nice hoppy aroma..saaz hops but really bright and clear. Taste is more balanced than i imagined but the hops shine through at the end.. though rather balanced for a German Pils..it pulls it off. Actually a nice silky smooth palate( if thats possible) for the style. Overall i liked this one and found it drinkable.

Pours clear gold in color with a fluffy 2 finger cloudy now white head that faded slowly; very good lacing that clings to the glass and left rings as it went down.

Smells of grass, hay, light sweet malt, yeast, faint floral hops, corn and a slight skunky odor; pretty mellow nose as the hops and grains controlled the nose, but gave way to some floral notes.

Tastes of sweet malt, grass, hay, light lemon, yeast, light floral hops, corn, herbs, toasted grains and a touch of caramel; the flavor was typical for a pils and was balanced enough to be enjoyable, yet a tad too basic as the hops didn't bring any spice punch.

Mouthfeel was smooth and watery; body was light and crisp, with light carbonation and a slight bitter finish. High drinkability, it goes down easy, but is just a little reserved to be exciting. Good session beer that could flow all night.

.5L, Germany, best by 2/11.

Pours with a nice, creamy head atop the standard light gold body. Great clarity, plus above-average retention and lacing.

Aroma has a bit of grassy hops, but is mainly muffled and grainy.

Flavor is dry and clean. Malts, though not sweet, seem to take over a bit. Bitterness is there, but the hop flavor needs to be elevated. Some spice and earthiness from the hops. Finish is woody and bready. Mouthfeel has smooth carbonation but lacked creaminess.

This is a solid pilsner, even if it's not very impressive. Easy to drink.

I bought a larger fridge keg of this at my local BevMo. It was on sale and I decided to give it a try. It is a straightforward German Pilsner, with a hint of Lager taste. The beer is a beautiful golden color, has a strong aroma (which is sweet), leaves a slight aftertaste, and is easy to drink. Definitely worth a try, especially if you like St. Pauli or Steinlager.

Got this 12oz single for $2.00 from Manchester Wine & Spirits, Manchester CT. Code 2013311. Served cold in a chilled pilsener glass.

Perfectly clear, bright yellow brew shows moderate carbonation and puts up a healthy 1.5" of white foam. Smell has some dried hay, lemon, raw grain, and a little skunk... smells like a standard EPL. Taste is a good dose of saaz, then lemon rind, hay, grain. Fairly hoppy. The feel is light and crisp, but astringent in a way that makes my teeth feel gritty, which is a bit offensive. Finishes with gritty teeth and a lingering flavor of leather.

Bleh. I'm not impressed, won't be seeking this out again.

Appearance - This is a very thin yellow in color but with a nice, big, fluffy white head that left little pits on top of the liquid.

Smell - There's a light grassy hop aroma that isn't bad but doesn't nail the style. It's off and kind of stale.

Taste - The malt comes out a bit more at the taste but again the hops are stale. The overall effect is that it tastes like the ingredients are really cheap but I'm sure that's not the case as this brewery has a strong reputation.

Mouthfeel - This is light-bodied with modest carbonation and no finish to speak of.

Drinkability - This was good enough to finish but I wouldn't buy again.

Unfortunately as is practically against my religion, I am drinking this beer out of the bottle as I am traveling and have no suitable drinking receptacle. I can't really review this beer on appearance rather than judging from what I can see through the brown bottle.

Appearance: The beer is really clear in the bottle with no yeast or sediment on the bottom of the bottle. There is quite a bit of carbonation visible as the bubbles rise after the sip. It looks like there would be a medium sized head of small white bubbles.

Aroma: I get predominantly sweet and somewhat toasty malts with a reserved hop presence that really just has a hint of spice (like from Saaz), but is not completely obvious as it typically is in Northern Pilsners. I may have to knock it a bit on this section as a Pilsner typically has a more dominant hop profile and this beer comes across more like a Helles. This is a good thing for my taste, but I will have to "ding" it here.

Taste: The hops is a little bit bigger player in the flavor than in the aroma, but it is still reserved when compared to the toasty malts. There are lots of toasty notes in the flavor from the malt as well, and this is the key player in the finish. The hops are really only a player in the beginning of the flavor profile and then the malt takes over and that is the last you hear from the hops. The carbonation is ample and makes the beer dance across the palate a bit on the way down.

Opinion: This is a really good beer in my opinion, and this is the second six-pack that I have drank in the week that I have been traveling, so it definitely goes down easily. I am anxious to try it again is a more "proper" setting, but this beer is good enough that it isn't suffering even from this inferior presentation. I am looking forward to drinking this beer again.

A - Poured out a clear, straw yellow color with a two-finger, white, pillowy head of fluffy foam. It left thin traces of lace.

S - It smelled of grains and floral notes. No skunkiness thanks to a brown bottle.

T - It had a sharp, spicy hop bite for a pilsener. Good grain flavor with some caramel sweetness. Really well done.

M - It was crisp, sharp and smooth. A light bodied lager with a fairly dry finish.

D - This was really pretty good. I feared it might be old because of the high price point. Quite a tasty German Pils.

Pours a pale gold color. Aroma is of floral hops and grassy grain. It is a totally straightforward pilsner with the taste of grain and peppery hops with a malty backbone, and a very dry finish. Might not be the most intricate beer, but on a hot summer day it sure beats water.

Drinking from a 1.32 US gal mini-keg. Tapping instructions in German only!

Pours an ULTRA clear golden yellow, with slow bubble trailers. A thin head sticks to the sides of the glass nicely. Smell is beer-like (aka malty and a tad sweet and grassy.) Taste is smooth at first, twisting into a hoppy high and malty backbone. Nothing bad, just a good pilsner taste with a solid, bitter (and a bit of tankard) finish. Drinkability is expectedly high.

On tap at Gourmet Haus Staudt. Bright and clear in the glass, golden-hued with a thick frothy head. Nice spicy hop aroma, quite fragrant and fresh, a bit grassy. Crackery pale malt resides right beside the hops, and the yeast profile is clean, showing only a hint of sulfur. It's crisp and dry on the tongue, more hoppy than malty, with a robust spicy/herbal/green/grassy hop character. There's a touch of dry maltiness around the mid-palate, reminiscent of a sweet baguette. Finishing with a firm, punchy and lingering bitterness, this is especially dry and bitter for a German pils.
