Pours clear dark ruby with airy brownish head and thick slowly downsliding lacing. Aroma is simple, but pleasant mild roasted malt.

Mouthfeel is smooth light-medium, very balanced weak roasted character with light caramel-like sweetness.

Overall, seems to be very nice and pleasant Schwarzbier, extremely drinkable.

The beer pours a translucent dark brown color with a thick towering tan head that slowly fades to lacing. The aroma is good. It has a rich black malt scent with a dry lager yeast element. It has a roasted barley aroma that blends nicely with the caramel malts. The taste is great. It has a smooth and rich toated caramel flavor that goes down smooth and finishes with a bit of smokiness. It is sweet, but the lager yeast leaves a dry, earthy aftertaste. The mouthfeel is fine. It is a medium/full bodied beer with good/adequate carbonation. This is an excellent beer. It has awesome flavor and aroma; a good drinker.

A: Pours a deep mahogany to black with barely any light getting through, topped by roughly two fingers of thick head that clings to the sides of the glass.

S: Subtle notes of roasted coffee, nice toasted malt with mostly a lager-like clean scent.

T: Big maltiness up front, nice and toasty with the coffee-like kick present as well, but this tapers off and changes dynamically, as is expected. Also, a smidgeon of chocolate flavor shows itself. Has the clean and smooth lager finish, but with plenty of flavor that ends up leaving only the faintest hint of malt in the aftertaste.

M: Perfect level of carbonation, giving a slightly creamy flavor, but mostly smooth and velvety.

D: Quite drinkable indeed, with a solid array of flavor that still maintains balance. Definitely tops other schwarzbiers I've tasted in terms of keeping the palate engaged but maintaining the subtleties of a lager.

Sampled at the 2003 AOBF: Stammtisch

It's been a *long* time since I've had a schwarzbier, and I'm glad I had a chance to sample this one. It pours with a deep, deep black color and a thick tan head, almost like a stout. The aroma was that of a nicely roasted malt, with a bit of chocolate and nuttiness. It's a bit sharp on the mouthfeel, mostly due to a bit of carbonation. The taste is quite pleasant, with a well-rounded nuttiness and a sweet malty aftertaste. Very pleasant, and very drinkable.

A nice bready smell. Dark brown, a little bit of light shines through. The head was rather impressive and thick, it took quite a while to settle down. A nice bitterness, a little bit of a roasted feel. I thought the beer felt a little heavy and thick in my mouth for a schwarz, but otherwise was quite good.

1L can. Brew date: July 7, 2011; best by: not on can.

Appearance: Dark bown in color, dark coppery brown when backlit. Poured with 2 fingers of rocky, dense, light tan head. Very good head retention. Plenty of delicate lacing down the glass.

Smell: Roast malt with a hint of chocolate.

Taste: Very smooth roasted flavor, caramel and black malt, just a bit of subdued bitterness on the back end. This may be the smoothest schwarzbier I have ever had.

Mouthfeel: Light to medium bodied. Just enough carbonation to be refreshing. Crisp finish.

Overall: I really like this beer. This is my new favorite schwarzbier. Quite easy to drink, lots of flavor.

I guess I have to thank the Soccer World Cup for this brew, 'cause a local supermarket is now offering 7 beers from the Kulmbacher brewery in a sort of a celebration or homage for the host of this sport event.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!
:-)

Pours a dark brew, with reddish, ruby when seen in trough a backlight. Matching dark and bubbly head, and some lacing.

Smell is discrete, of roasted malts, though.

A well balanced and medium beer. Taste starts with a roasted malt presence, that lingers a bit, also some bitterness. Quite refreshing.

Mouthfeel is also discrete, with a nice mild bitter aftertaste.

With my kind of weather, hot 8 to 9 months a years, this is nice everyday beer.

¡Salud!

A - Poured out of the bottle into a flute. Poured a dark brown with ruby highlights, a finger of head that quickly fell leaving very little lace. Carbonation was very active

S - A very yeasty..bready smell, with just a very small hint of alcohol hidden very deep.

T - A bready roasted malt taste that finishes with a very small hop bitterness to just cut the roasted flavor..finishes dry

M - Very lively and carbonated..giving a very crisp drink, along with the dry finish makes this excellent

D - Overall a very drinkable beer..the elements of the beer come together to make it very enjoyable

This is a bit of an older one I'm just getting to. Notes are thorough and complete.

This beer lives up to its German name, nearly black with some brown just sneaking in at the edges. A nice billowing cap of brown head with excellent retention leaves sticky lacing in plenty.
The aroma is a little smoky, malty with a barley presence but not neglecting a little bright citrus hops shining through.
The taste is essentially the same, with notes of caramel malt mingling with darker malts offering just a bit of coffee and a barley grains presence with a hint of smoke that's just enough to round it out. This malts presence works in beautiful unison with a healthy dose of citrus hops flavor. This really is what I'd expect from an attempt at a so-called "dark pils." It's actually dryer than one might think, ending up in a nice, balanced, semi-dry territory.
This beer has a medium body, maybe on the lighter side, with more crispness than smoothness.

A- Very Dark Brown with little light passing through, thick tan head that slowly drops down to a nice thin layer

S- A caramel and roasted malt with a little bit of a sweet hop smell

T- A strong roasted malt hits you fist with hints of Caramel and coffee, a sweet finish that is from the hops but more so reminds me of the dark fruit tastes you get from a Bock

M- Light to Medium body with light carbonation

D- I will be buying more of this beer. This is a great light dark beer. Very rich in flavor but not going to make you feel as though you just had a meal after a bottle or two.

A wonderful looking pour. Very dark but by no means opaque. Lots of ruby and brown when held up to the light. Excellent bright head... 1/2" thick, it stays and stays.

Nose is very malty and sweet. Roasted malts all over the place. Not too complex... some brown sugar and molasses. Slightly smokey.

Huge malt on the intake. Roasted with coffee notes. Nutty. Opens up a ton as it warms. Great mouthfeel. Very smooth.

Overall I'd purchase again. This seems like a great grilling beer for a hot summer night.

a clear dark ebony color with hues of brown when held to the light. not a lot of head or lacing.

the nose is very hoppy with sort of a fruity scent to it. a strong malt presence maybe some caramel.

the taste is very lightly hopped with a roasty almost earthy finish and a solid backbone of malt.

this feels very clean on the tongue, not to foamy and has a slight dry finish. no real bite to speak of though.

very sessionable, flavorful yet mild, and light in your tummy. not to strong either.

really tasty and light, good for consuming in mass quantities.

On draft at Republic Gastropub in Oklahoma City. Beautiful dark Ruby brown in a weizen glass with thin, persistent head.

Noise of fruit, light roast.

Spectacular first taste. Bread, raisin, caramelesque sweetness, a hearty breakfast vibe.

Thick, erotic mouth.

A really great black beer. For fans of Doppelbock, Dunkel lager, and Dunkelweizen. And schwarzbier, of course
