Poured from a bottle into a dimpled mug.

A – Dark reddish black with a thick two-finger tan head of creamy bubbles. Moderate lacing.

S – Nice strong aroma of dark roasted malts and caramel. Mocha-esque.

T – Wow. Powerful dark roast flavor, with none of the “graininess” sometimes associated with dark lagers. Caramel malts make their presence known. Esters of nutty toffee, coffee, dark fruits, and chocolate as well. Bavarian style hops lurk way back in the flavor profile, but you can taste them if you look for them. Slightly smokey. Fruitiness comes out as it warms. Not overly complex, but perfectly balanced between bitter and sweet. Smooth. Delicious.

M – Light bodied, with medium carbonation, but with an amazing creaminess that really makes this beer stand out. Dry finish.

O – This is the first beer in a while to really blow me away unexpectedly. The combination of flavor richness, balance, and the creamy mouth feel makes this a real winner. Proof that a beer doesn’t have to be super extreme to kick ass. A new fave.

Demi-litre bottle with flip top, goes off with quite a snap when opened.

Pours out a mahogany red appearance with effervescent dense light tan head foaming over, nice lacing down the glass.

A whiff of toasty barley, chocolate and coffee on the nose, a touch of grassy hops.

Taste is more impressive, bitter cocoa, roasted coffee, walnut and dark fruits, cherry and prune, some hints of tobacco, a little smokiness. There is a pleasing sweetness and some hop structure in the background as well as a vegetal undertone. A lingering bitter aftertaste.

Very nice beer to sample, super smooth on the tongue, a light carbonation provides lift, the experience is cleansing and very accomplished.

Flip-top bottle poured into a glass in Germany.

A – Pours nice with deep black color with a strong off-white head. The retention is good with nice lacing.

S - A nice roast aroma with hints of chocolate and coffee.

T – Very balanced taste with roast malt, chocolate, coffee flavoring. Residual sweetness adds a very slight fruity flavor which is balanced well against the roasted flavor.

M - Medium body with medium to high carbonation.

O – This beer was a nice surprise to me. Definitely one of the best Schwartzbiers that I have been able to try. Highly recommended.

A: 1" tan coloured head over cola coloured liquid.

S: Coffee, chocolate and yeast.

T: Yeast, roasted barley, toasted malt, grassy and citrus hops with a coffee/chocolate mocha finish.

M: Medium to thin viscosity and medium to thin level of carbonation.

O: Extremely drinkable and refreshing. A great beer.

Clear black walnut is very dark with dramatic, fine carbonation coating the pilsner glass. A big, creamy, beige head slowly turns rocky, leaving sticky patches of lace.

The aroma is that of dark roasted malt, sweet, with some chocolate and the suggestion of nuts.

The flavor profile, while close to the nose, accentuates roasted nuts. Balance is better than anticipated up front, however, the middle is dominated by malt. The finish is modest. Generally speaking, this beer lacks layers of complexity, however, it is well done, with some fruitiness. Bitterness detracts as it warms.

A medium body with satin texture and modest carbonation. Alcohol is absent from this crisp and refreshing beer.

A good summer afternoon beer, however, it lacks the pop I had hoped for.

This beer pours a black w/ a two finger, super dense cocoa head. Major pop when the top comes off this one- like a gunshot. There's a good amount of lacing on my CBS snifter. The nose is roasted malt, nuts, and maybe some cocoa in there. Not a super strong nose, but very balanced and pleasant. The taste follows the nose profile, with a little bite hiding beyond all the malty goodness. Feel is medium, super smooth and silky. Malt dominates throughout. Overall, this is a very laid back, malty, solid brew. Definitely a good session brew that I'd have again. Cheers.

From notes:

Appearance: From a 1 pint flip top bottle. The beer is black with brown hues on top is an off white head around an inch thick.

Aroma: Figs, little notes of grapes, wild berries and even some blue berries. Wisps of pumpernickel, herbal, floral and some citrus hops.

Taste: Sweetness up front, brown bread, floral hop, smokiness with bits of woodiness. Dark berries are in the back along with touches of herbs. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied and is fairly smooth.

Notes: An amazing lager even though there are not alot of Schwarzbiers this is a remarkable treat and I will pick this one up again. Cheers.
