Thick, opaque black with a ring of dark brown foam. Coffee, dark baker's chocolate, and a hint of vanilla fill the nose. A sledgehammer of aromas, no complexity. Same with the taste heavy coffee, chocolate, malt, char and booze. Heavy handed in feel too, weigh down on you as you drink it. Thought it was good, but if in the mood for a heavy coffee stout, say in mid-winter, this would really hit the spot

Released 2/1/19; drank 3/22/19 @ the Yarchives.

Black appearance.

A violent pour yielded a big, noisy dark tan head; a thick curtain of lace.

Dark roast coffee bean, chocolate syrup & faint pickle juice notes in the nose.

Medium thick mouthfeel.

Dark roast coffee bean & mild pickle juice flavors up front; chocolate syrup notes on the finish. Mild booze heat.

This is frankly terrible; dark roast coffee & pickle juice, with a syrup-y chocolate presence? Just have a glass of water, man.

Jet black on the pour with a sudsy tan head, the nose is a coffee sledgehammer with some nice chocolate aromas.

The coffee dominates the taste, but the chocolate shines, too, and there’s some roasty char flavors as well. Exceptionally well done by Central State, IMHO.

Props for the name, given that some friends recently got me back into playing Diablo 3. Pours suitably black, moderately thick for 11% ABV, with a pleasing dryness and earthy coffee aroma. Very light chocolate and nut notes, primarily a vehicle for coffee here.

Pouring from a 16 oz. can into a whiskey tumbler glass, this beer pours out very dark, slick and oily. It forms a pinky width of tightly packed caramel colored bubbles to form a crown. 3.75

The nose brings a freshly roasted coffee mixing with a dark chocolate presence. Like smelling in a bag of beans. Not much complexity, but a beautiful dimension of the coffee and chocolate. 3.75

The taste comes in with a huge wave of that roasty coffee before it turns into a silky dark chocolate and finishes with a slight saltiness, teriyaki/soy sauce. (This aspect is slight, but detectable to me) 3.5

It’s medium bodied with good depth for a coffee stout. Silky, slightly bitter, balanced acidity. Alcohol present, but hidden better than 11%. It doesn’t finish very cleanly, maybe because of that salty feeling it leaves behind. 3.5

Overall, it has some good aspects. The coffee seems freshly roasted, I like the silky chocolate notes, it’s got a balanced astringency (but so does Unicorn Blood) but it just lacked something that made it pop for me and it could’ve finished more cleanly. 3.5
